Teladoc Health
Teladoc Health offers convenient, quick access to medical professionals for minor issues, often covered by insurance, but is plagued by significant app instability and inconsistent provider quality, making its value variable.
Teladoc Health provides rapid access to doctors for quick consultations and prescriptions, often praised for its convenience and speed, especially for minor ailments R12R33R57. However, the app is frequently criticized for being buggy, glitchy, and difficult to use, with many users experiencing login issues, crashes, and data entry problems R13R16R38R45. Provider quality is inconsistent, with some users reporting excellent care while others describe rude, incompetent, or unhelpful doctors R2R3R18R31.
Free vs paid
The app itself is free to download and use, but medical consultations often incur costs, which can vary significantly based on insurance coverage R3R19. Many users report that appointments are free if they have insurance R19R79, while others mention unexpected charges, such as a $70 fee after being quoted $10 R3. There are also complaints about being charged for ineffective visits or for services that were not rendered as expected R2R24R63. Some users were promised free devices, like a scale, only to receive a bill later R55.
Value complaints
- Unexpectedly high charges for appointments, sometimes much higher than initially quoted.R3
- Being charged for visits where no adequate care was provided or the service was incompetent.R2R24R63
- Deceptive practices regarding 'free' devices, leading to unexpected bills.R55
- Charges for short, unhelpful calls or visits that did not resolve the issue.R24R84
Where it delivers
- Quick and convenient access to medical professionals, often within minutes.R8R12R33R60
- Ability to receive prescriptions quickly for minor issues.R12R66R109
- Avoids long wait times at urgent care or primary care providers.R6R12R57R60
- Many users find the service to be professional, knowledgeable, and caring.R17R25R31R58
- Often covered by insurance, making visits free for some users.R19R79
It is worth paying for if you have minor issues that require quick attention and a prescription, especially if your insurance covers the visits, as many users find it a convenient alternative to urgent care or a PCP R12R19R57R60. It can also be valuable for those with busy schedules who need 24-hour care and want to avoid long waits at traditional doctor's offices R57.
Skip if you require consistent, high-quality medical care, as provider experiences are highly variable R2R18. Also, skip if you are easily frustrated by buggy applications, as many users report persistent issues with logging in, app crashes, data entry, and connectivity R13R16R38R45. Those seeking specific weight loss medications or comprehensive mental health support might also find the service inadequate or misleading .
Evidence note: The reviews show a strong dichotomy between positive experiences regarding convenience and speed, and negative experiences related to app functionality and inconsistent provider quality. There are numerous complaints about the app being buggy and difficult to use, which contrasts with the high lifetime rating, suggesting recent negative trends or a significant portion of users only interacting with the medical service and not the app's ancillary features.

- [R3] Quick to see a doctor but doctors vary in personality: Had a quick, easy appointment but the doctor was rude and dismissive about my questions. He diagnosed the issue quickly though. It would be nice to able to ask for a female doctor. I was also told over a call that I’d have to likely pay 10 dollars max for an appointment but instead I had to pay 70 dollars. But hey that’s American healthcare fo
- [R2] Most incompetent care: I received some of the most incompetent care of my life through Teladoc. When you know, you have a true kidney infection and not a bladder infection and the doctors continue to prescribe you something that will not treat a kidney infection. Even a simple Google search could tell you it’s the wrong medication after three visits with this Teladoc and they are unable to provide
- [R24] Worst experience ever.: I set up a video call to speak to a doctor so I can renew a prescription however, they called over the phone instead of a video call being familiar with the process. I asked the person speaking to me if they could transfer to a video call instead and the answer was no and of course I asked and he confirmed I would be charged anyway despite the mistake so I said I’d call a c
- [R63] 1st teladoc visit: Provider was very unfriendly. She did not offer much medical advice. No prescription because she said it might require a prior authorization. She hung up without saying goodbye. Feel like I wasted my money.
- [R55] Deceitful - scam: I was informed they’d send me a free scale, covered by insurance! Now I have a bill where it was very much not covered by insurance. This is a scam!
- [R84] No help: Apparently if you have taken an antibiotic Teledoc can’t give you another one. My first one is fine and I am getting sick again, gave me a prescription for nose spray that he didn’t even sound like he thought would help. Wasted $30 thanks.
- [R8] Easy to use: Easy to use, quick, efficient!
- [R12] Extremely helpful!!: I am very grateful for this service. Usually I’m able to connect to a provider within minutes and receive a prescription for my problem in less than a total wait time of 10 minutes!! It’s amazing to be able to avoid waiting for days or sometimes even weeks to be seen by my primary provider for a problem that will be resolved by the time I’m seen!! For small issues that you nee
- [R33] Quick and Fast: Scheduled a same day appt. Was seen with 15 mins. Treated and received exactly what I needed. And on my way to recovery so I can go on about my day. Thank you!!
- [R60] Skin Infection: WOW!! This was super easy and super quick with super short wait time, pleasant staff and I didn’t have to wait in an emergency room or urgent care. Will definitely use this option again next time!
- [R66] Amazing: Traveling on vacation. Had an ear infection. Visit and prescription called in under 5 minutes. I was shocked how easy this was. Well done.
- [R109] Great Doctor: Very friendly welcoming doctor gave me meds I needed and picked them up in the same day
- [R6] Better than Urgent Care: I’m so glad that I have Teladoc, Health, the video visits are more detailed to me than Urgent Care, and the Doctors don’t seem to be trying to rush you to get to the next patient.
- [R57] Awesome!: Major time saver, between work and daily activities i barely have time to go to the doctor. This service has helped me many times!! Love it!!
- [R17] Best NP Ever!!!: The telehealth NP was spot on, provided excellent care and was very knowledgeable!
- [R25] Easy, peasy: Professional, kind, knowledgeable. Will definitely use again.
- [R31] Excellent care: This was a great telehealth visit. The provider was kind, patient, and really took the time to listen to my concerns. I never felt rushed, and everything was explained clearly. I truly felt cared for and would highly recommend this provider. Five stars!
- [R58] Excellent help: Very professional, and knowledgeable staff
- [R19] 1st Choice of Care - Then see your Doc.: I’ve used this a few times once while I was on vacation for an eye infection. It works great. And it’s no cost if you have insurance course. Really should be your go to.
- [R79] So convenient and easy: Love that the fact I can get an appointment right away , faster then my actual primary clinic. They accept most health insurance.Definitely recommend this app!
- [R13] Absolute Dumpster Fire: Teladoc doesn’t remember your login information, despite all efforts to save it. When you change insurance providers, you have to make an entirely new account. For people who change jobs, this is a nightmare. Almost every time I log in, it asks me to verify my address and has an old one in place. I don’t know how many times I’ve updated information, asked to remember login,
- [R16] Terrible: This app is incredibly buggy, it drops the video for visits constantly, the messaging feature is incredibly difficult to use, and I frequently get server errors while using it. It really feels like they have one developer working on the app.
- [R38] this app is HORRIBLE: this app is absolutely a nightmare. It is the glitches thing I’ve ever used. It’s always freezing. I get error messages when I try to do important things sometimes I can’t see my provider. Sometimes the provider can’t see me and you would think with all these updates that it would change, but it doesn’t. Unfortunately, I do have to use this app, but it is a very dreadful expe
- [R45] Horrible App: This is an honest review of the app. Every time I have to log back into the app I have to re-enter my medical history not only is it inconvenient. It is flat out a horrible app.
- [R18] Not so good: The doctor barely listened to what I had to say. She didn’t want to know about my medical history and just said “Go see your doctor”.
- [R7] Doesn’t share data with Apple Health: I was really surprised when I realized this app does not share weight and blood pressure data with the Apple Health app. I’m tempted to go back to my old scale just for this reason since it’s a pain to manually enter the data. Please consider adding this capability.
- [R26] More connectivity please: I wish this app would sync blood pressure and weight with the Apple Health app.
- [R110] Does NOT sycn Blood Glucose . . .: I am a former Livongo for Diabetes member. The Livongo app synced blood glucose readings to Apple Health. The Teladoc app does not, Blood Glucose doesn't even appear as a data category under Teladoc in the Health app's Sources, which means the app has never requested HealthKit blood glucose permission. This is a regression from Livongo functionality.
- [R244] Pls Share Weight with Apple Health: I have this app because I have your scale, which works well. But the app only shares Steps! Why not weight? This would be very helpful because I would not have to enter it manually, which O rarely remember to do. But very important when I need the data in other apps.
