AllTrails is highly praised for its extensive trail maps and ease of use for hikers, but faces criticism for pricing, bugs, and poor customer support. Strava is favored for its activity tracking and social features, though it also struggles with customer support, app stability, and aggressive subscription prompts.

you engage in a variety of athletic activities like running and cycling, enjoy social fitness features, and want detailed tracking and analysis, even if it means dealing with aggressive subscription prompts .

- [R2] AllTrails Love it: Use it for all my hiking needs
- [R5] AllTrails Use it everywhere I go: This is my go to app anywhere I go that I want to travel by foot and see beautiful places! It’s a must have.
- [R12] AllTrails Needs to be accepting of the correct info from users: Trusted users need to exist. We know the trails, we know the real official names. Stop filling the hiking descriptions with AI slop. The app has too much ai slop. Stop messing up the app. Too much bloat. We don't want images on the lists. Sort alphabetically.
- [R13] AllTrails I CANT PRESS THE RUNNING ACTIVITY BUTTON: 5 stars except the fact I CANT PRESS THE RUNNING ACTIVITY BUTTON IVE BEEN FIGHTING FOR MY LIFE TRYING TO PRESS THIS BUTTON BUT I CANT I CAN PRESS ANY OTHER ACTIVITY BUT I CANT DO THE RUNNING ONE I JUST WANT TO LOOK AT TRAILS I CAN RUN ON PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF GOD
- [R6] AllTrails No easy way to stop logging: Both on the Apple Watch and in the App I found no button to click to tell the app I finished the hike. After remaining motionless at my vehicle, a pop up appeared asking me if I was done with the hike and to tap for “yes”, which I did, but it still continued to track my motion all the way home. I paid for the App - I would expect it to give me a convenient way to end t
- [R7] AllTrails No Option for Feedback: There’s a new feature when you are trying to zoom in to look at a map in more detail and it pops up this menu that takes over the screen and makes it impossible to pan around if you have man hands.
- [R8] AllTrails User friendly: I think the title says it but if you aren’t inclined with an app this one is easy to use.
- [R15] AllTrails Great idea, but glitchy in practice: I love so many things about this website (notice I didn’t say app). However, every time I search for hikes, it automatically refreshes and brings me to the top of the page. I usually can’t scroll down past 10 or so hikes. Really inconvenient for those not looking to do the most popular hikes around.
- [R1] AllTrails Thief’s App: I get a notification of auto renewal at 10:53pm and two hours later they hit my account leaving me not option but to pay for something I didn’t want. Theirs do their work an night, and so do these people. Decent app, worth $15 yearly: sure. However, it’s not worth $35 or the money they’ll have to pay me to remove the 12 reviews I’ve posted announcing their nefariousness.
- [R9] AllTrails Great App but it’s a money grab: 80 dollars is ridiculous for the peak subscription. I feel like it’s a money grab, I also hate how they show features that you don’t have access to and you don’t realize you don’t have that feature until you click on it. The peak features should be part of the plus subscription.
- [R10] AllTrails Hate this two-tier system: So annoyed by the greed of having this two-level system, and denying stuff for people who are already paying customers. It sucks.
- [R17] AllTrails Thank you for the free version: I don’t hike very often. I us is for a guidance
- [R21] AllTrails Cancelled subscription but still charged: I cancelled my subscription the day before it ended but was still charged £35.99. After several messages with their support team support team I was refunded the full amount but without apology or explanation. I won’t be using this app again.
- [R22] AllTrails Privacy Changed are Sleazy and Alarming: I’ve been a longtime user of AllTrails, for years and years. I always set my own routes to “private” because I want that data for myself but don’t feel safe publicly sharing my favorite hiking routes with the entire world. I learned today that without any warning, AllTrails decided to make public every single waypoint any user has ever saved, regardless of
- [R25] AllTrails They will Scam you!: They offered a 50% off a year but when the actual charge came through it was full price. They were unwilling to give a refund and even after multiple escalations held to the full price. False advertising. Ruthless and totally not customer friendly.
- [R3] AllTrails Expensive and lakes iPad Support: Make a version of the app that works on an iPad. Would allow easier planning for hikes instead of the small scaled down version.
- [R4] AllTrails Ok if it’s the only app you use: Doesn’t talk to Strava or let you export activity data anywhere. Basically not much use unless it’s the only app you use for logging your activities.
- [R24] AllTrails Great for the phone …: It’s a great app, really love it, it’s only fault is that I can’t access it on more devices. It could really do with an iPad app. I also bought the premium version because I was excited to use the Apple Watch feature. It was such a let down, not even a map feature for a maps app. Developers, please work on your other apps across devices.
- [R65] Strava Tehehehe: Ts app was good but when will there be 3d buildings 🥺? I have used this app on my Samsung Phone and watch with Samsung health but I was wondering if I can connect with Apple health with this app. Gotta look cool with my thingies 😎
- [R19] AllTrails Just a giant ad: Everything is locked down in this app. Everything you click on is a trick to advertise the paid premium app. It’s not worth it anymore
- [R87] Strava Way to expensive: Man this stuff should be free
- [R89] Strava Great tracking: I enjoy Strava but I’ve also been a member long enough where I’ve lost the ability to do things unless I subscribe and that’s a bummer and way too expensive in my opinion.
- [R102] Strava It’s OK and free is OK but the request $80 for a year is outrageous: It’s been OK for the free portion. I’d be happy to purchase a yearly premium membership but $80 is just outrageous A few of my friends in my run group feel the same way You folks want $320 a year from the 4 of us but you’re getting zero dollars. How about drop it to $40 and get $160 out of us?!
- [R118] Strava Squeezing money from users: I just want to record my runs and save them locally. I don’t need your analysis, or your coaching or fifty other useless features. Still every button you click is a bag screen to subscribe. I used to be a paying member but the price increases were just ridiculous for the value.
- [R28] AllTrails Offline maps doesn’t work offline: Have Plus membership. Downloaded a map to use offline. Went to a trail away from any coverage. Tried to use the downloaded map: “Not available. What you’re looking for isn’t available to view.” I have a Plus membership, which I thought gave me access to downloaded maps while offline. Later in the hike I got one bar of coverage, and it let me start the trail halfw
- [R29] AllTrails 10/10 recommend: I hike 2-3x a week anywhere from 4 to 8 miles and I use All Trails religiously to track my hikes. Not only does it to an amazing job at keeping me on the trail but it also helps me monitor my pace and overall activity. I recommend this to all of my friends and as someone who doesn’t usually do app memberships this is one I will invest in time and time again.
- [R39] AllTrails We love AllTrails: We use this app for ALL hikes, including planning hikes, researching hikes, and finding the best hikes! This app keeps us on trail which is important to us and when offline, that is huge.
- [R53] AllTrails Easy way to get out there!!: AllTrails makes it easy to find new locations track yourself even when your phone is off and have a fun and safe time hiking!!🥾
- [R60] AllTrails Money taken: Money was taken (£35.99), from my account without any consent. Tried to rectify the issue, all they offered in the form of customer service was a dysfunctional chat bot that deliberately seemed to ‘fob you off’ or stall you. Human contact avoided by them. Be very aware. Check your finances if you’ve interacted in the past.
- [R67] Strava App bug: Extremely frustrated. I just purchased the yearly subscription, and the app stopped working almost immediately. I reached out to support hoping for a quick fix, but all I got was a generic bot reply, no human has responded, and the issue is still unresolved. If you’re going to charge for a full year upfront, the least I’d expect is functional support when things break. Would not recommen
