Who it's for
Strava is for fitness enthusiasts, particularly runners and cyclists, who value detailed activity tracking, performance statistics, and a social platform to share achievements and connect with others R10R37R72. It's suitable for those who find motivation in comparing runs or activities over the same course R77R78 and can tolerate or pay for premium features. It is not for users who expect a fully functional free app, are sensitive to aggressive monetization, or require reliable tracking without bugs and customer support issues R3R5R60.
Evidence note: The recent reviews skew heavily negative (0.6 recent-negative signal), focusing on bugs, monetization, and subscription issues. While there are positive reviews, they are fewer and often from long-term users who appreciate the core functionality despite recent changes. The high lifetime rating suggests a positive historical sentiment, but the recent trajectory is clearly negative.

- [R10] Download Now: I have used this app for several years for my daily cycle…I use the free version which is more than enough for whatI need. I have had a free trial of the full price version but the additional features were not really relevant tome but I’m sure others find them useful. It is the best app of its type and I recommend it.
- [R37] Nothing comes close: I have been using the app for over ten years now. Mostly running and some cycling. Very easy to use and understand. Seen many updates and still just gets better. None of the other apps came close to being reliable or easy to use.
- [R72] Champion App: Strava is a champion app, proper statistics, a motivator & social excellence - a life changer
- [R77] Data Analysis: I like the fact that you can compare runs over the same course interpreted to improve performance.
- [R30] Integrates well with Apple fitness, health & workout.: Although using the strava app & on AW S10 doesn’t fully write data to Apple fitness, still logs the info towards your health data. On the flip side Apple fitness/workout writes to strava for the most part even using the free version. It’s a shame strava doesn’t recognise gps data from pool swims but not a problem. Few issues with recordin
- [R46] I’m absolutely bloody so honestly loving the Strava app with how I most can link Apple Watch to it.: I absolutely love this Strava walking & for all my different running sessions and all my fitness workout routines and also my cycling on my pedal bike in the summer months when it’s hot enough LOL🤣 Just all round loving this Strava app on iPhones absolutely amazing such an incredible outstanding of
- [R67] Graham & Ki: Have really enjoyed having Strava to see our combined achievements, thats my Pug & me 👍🏻
- [R78] Love it keep me motivated when check how I’ve done after my run: Love Strava check my ru and it give me what I want and it keep me motivated as I’am 68 coming up to 69 and I just love running
- [R79] Great app: Great app, keeps you honest!
- [R52] Perfect: Free, easy to use, accurate, smooth, no ads, great interface.
- [R3] Buggy: Can’t even open an account, bugs out all the time
- [R5] App not working: The screen just goes black or it’s saying something went wrong. Please try again. I pay for this app and I really need it to work.
- [R9] Must be a better app than this: Constantly crashes, doesn’t record skiing properly, ie, includes time on lifts as part of achievements….
- [R11] Dropping out: Second time in succession Strava has randomly dropped out and I’ve lost my event data. One of the events was an event of a lifetime. Gutted. Time to change.
- [R15] Garbage: Classic investment fund owned brand that profits off the efforts of its users to build the knowledge. Basically a walking advertisement for a subscription service which I have no interest in paying for after these corporate sharks bought and then destroyed Fatmap. Awful.
- [R38] Nothing is free: I liked the app when it was free and able to do some routes for walking. Moved to a new area so I wanted to take a route and explore but everything was a pop up to subscribe £9 a month just to walk? Wanted to save the route I made myself to use again and oh look a pop up to subscribe. Everything is a subscription nowadays and I’m sick of it, especially when the app was mostly free
- [R41] Nothing free any more: Every thing I tap asks me to sign up for free trial and then pay. So the tee is nothing free on this app any more? Also the activity drop down button doesn’t work
- [R45] Monetisation hungry: I find the app is becoming quite unpleasant and depressing to use. Constant attempts to get you to subscribe and weird scrolling interface that is moving all over the place. Not fun anymore.
- [R2] Ridiculous buggy free trial: Beware starting a free trial, the first time you accept it it says you’re in the free trial. When you next go into the app it pops up again and it says you will not be charged for a month. Then £54.99 a year comes up and upon accepting it instantly charges you despite the disclaimer - refund me!
- [R4] Great App but be careful when upgrading: I love the app but recently had trouble with an upgrade. If you are in the UK and thinking of upgrading to paid, do this through the Strava website. If you upgrade in the app Apple do not have to honour your 14 day right to cancel. That said after actually talking to a human being at Apple support my problem was resolved and I was refunded and now have the
- [R29] Keeps asking me to join trial: I already paid for the full verison. Cant do anything cos of the messages to join trial
- [R49] Free trial issues: Tried to start a free trial yesterday as prompted through the app. It took the annual fee straight away, no free trial, and what’s more showed no indication within the app that the free trial had been started, even after attempting to restore purchases. So I’ve been preemptively charged and have no access to the premium features.
- [R16] Utterly Useless: I have been unable to log in since May as their MFA gives you 10 seconds to receive the code into your email and then input it back on the log in screen. Even if you manage to do this, the app still refuses to let you proceed and asks you to input a new code. It’s pathetic that a company like Strava have not fixed this and the support ticket I’ve raised has not been responded to i
- [R23] Unable to login and limited customer support: Unable to log into app anymore as code wouldn’t send to an old email address I had been using in tandem with Facebook login.
- [R34] Strava: Very good app but customer support is useless
- [R42] Not able to change email- no customer service: You can’t change your email address for a Strava account. It just doesn’t work but there is no workaround. And customer service is no longer existent? Shocking for a well capitalised company.
- [R19] Often fails to import workouts: Why oh why is this app incapable of automatically importing workouts from Apple health? It seems to know about them, just says import and doesn’t import them.
- [R24] Runs don’t carry over: I’ll be waiting and waiting for my run to upload to Strava just never does. End up having to manually upload it a few days later. What’s the point.
- [R62] Long term user but latest version has annoying bugs or wants to push out apple fitness?: I am like many others here, I do a mixture of workouts and I use an Apple Watch to track all my work outs. However since 30th Nov, Strava has stopped syncing with my watch/apple Workout/Health app. I have not been able to sync any of ky workouts in December and January. WHY?!?!! Is it a bug or Strava is trying
- [R1] No Support for Spin Sessions that I can see: OK so you can automatically upload a spin workout from Life Fitness ICG app but for some reason Strava will default the session with your road bike 🤷♂️. You can't specify the workout as a spin session and you can't add a spin bike to your bike list.🤷♂️
- [R44] Horse riding: The only thing i feel this app is missing is an option for riding.
- [R48] Love it but we need something: I’ve been working on fitness for my main sport and that’s horse riding I think horse riding should be added to the options to track hacking distance etc
- [R81] Walk? Yeah, well…: I walk around 5-7 miles in one stretch daily. I can create a segment from one of my own walks. But, then I can’t see it as you only let people see running and cycling segments. I discovered someone else’s segment just by accidentally walking through it!
- [R7] Marketing is irritating: I left the sub version as all of the marketing features only wokey looking kids. That is not something that I want to support or encourage.
- [R8] Dark mode is no longer dark: Seems like a bug, menu screens are all light now regardless of the mode i set
- [R12] Too many clicks: Love Strava. But to many clicks to enter information to log an activity. I want straight to ‘advanced’ edit to detail an activity.
- [R13] It’s great: It’s also full of drivel that I should be able to filter out.
- [R39] Potentially unsafe: I thought i had ‘hidden’ myself from other subscribers but was then followed by some random. When i checked, all my routes, except start and end locations, were visible to all! As my routes are mostly my (very regular) commute through remote areas this was very worrying from the point of view of personal safety. I have cancelled the subscription (about as easy as the Three Peak
- [R98] Resource consumer: Great app but power consumption as well as data consumption is ridiculous. I have GBs of data used from Strava. For what exactly? Segments tracking isn’t also very accurate and people can easily shortcut it while the app is counting it in
- [R6] No iPad app: And the browser experience for route planning and viewing heatmaps is terrible. I get that no one’s going to carry an iPad as their tracking or navigating device, but plenty will use one to plan activities and routes and analyse their performance.
- [R59] Route planner awful: Trying to map a simple route and keeps taking me on roads and footpaths I don’t want to use. Really bad.
- [R99] Loading up maps to navigate: I have been disappointed by Strava, I have the premium service which I pay for monthly and it is very difficult to load up routes like GPX files so you can use the Strava app to navigate the route whilst riding - why do they make it so awkward …. If I’m honest I have found apps like GPX viewer much easier to use when I need to load a route to my iPhone and follow the r
- [R64] Getting Greedy: After using the app for years, I’m now looking to alternatives. It was a great free app and slowly more and more have been locked behind the paywall. Last year I got the year in sport review for free and that really motivated me this year to beat last year. Now this year it’s only for subscription users! There’s a lot of bugs as well. Struggle to sync to Apple Watch, it says yo
- [R60] Beware: Upgraded to the premium membership. Didn’t get a free month and it took my £55 for the annual membership immediately and never applied the membership. Contacted support and never got a response.
- [R95] Free Trial?: I’m absolutely appalled that £54.99 has been taken from my account two days after I installed this app, which I believed was subject to a free trial for a period of time. I therefore request that my money is returned to me immediately and if I want to permanently have this app I will buy it as opposed to having my money taken without my consent. I look forward to your response.
- [R80] Not syncing workouts: Overall I enjoy Strava and the fitness insights. However recently it has stopped syncing workouts from Apple fitness. Tried all the suggestions online and FAQs but no joy. Please fix
