Grindr vs Zoe
Zoe is the clear winner due to its significantly better user experience, fewer ads, and more responsive customer support, despite Grindr's larger user base.
Grindr, while having a larger user base, is plagued by excessive ads, fake profiles, and poor customer service. Zoe offers a much smoother experience with fewer ads, more genuine profiles, and a supportive admin team, making it a better choice for those seeking a more reliable dating app.
Head to head
You prioritize a potentially larger user base, are willing to tolerate significant ads and reliability issues, or are specifically looking for the type of connections Grindr is known for, despite its many drawbacks.
You are looking for a more reliable, user-friendly, and safer dating app with fewer ads and responsive customer support, even if it means a smaller user pool or paying for premium features.
Evidence note: Grindr's reviews are overwhelmingly negative, focusing on ads, bugs, and poor support, while Zoe's reviews are largely positive, praising ease of use and safety. The free vs. paid asymmetry is present, with Grindr's free tier being heavily criticized for ads, whereas Zoe's paid features are seen as reasonable value.

- [R21] Grindr No control, poor filtering and lack of verification: Grindr used to feel like a GAY APP, now everything is mixed with no control. Too many profiles without basic info, men not interested in meeting men, and filtering doesn’t work. Age verification should also be stricter. I spend more time blocking than connecting.
- [R28] Grindr Endless requests for payments: I paid 48 euros for a month, but I still have limited profile views, I have to see a video to access anyone, can’t see who has viewed me unless I pay more, and the endless and repetitive gaming video is hard to get rid of. What exactly did I pay for? To have the option to buy more options? Absolute scam
- [R54] Zoe good fun: simple and fun to use. very inclusive and all round good app
- [R58] Zoe Super!: I found typing up my profile very user friendly and looking forward to making new friends
- [R10] Grindr Poor: This app is getting worse by the day he day, constant adverts every 2 seconds, constant freezing so I have to delete it then reinstall it
- [R23] Grindr Ads crash the app: As the title says
- [R24] Grindr Poor accessibility: I tried to use the Grindr app with larger text size and the text wasn’t even scalable to normal sizes let alone the accessibility sizes. This was pretty disappointing. Also, the app was so full of ads it was quite difficult to navigate as I also have concentration and noise sensitivity. I hope they change and improve some of these things because access to apps for LGBT people
- [R25] Grindr Rubbish: Not useable due to constant adverts popping up.
- [R3] Grindr Could be better: A lot scams from India, fake accounts. Be careful. The app is nice, but I hate fake profiles.
- [R4] Grindr Money grabbing fags.: Constant spam messages. Constant ads. Constant bot accounts. Actual cesspit of an app.
- [R9] Grindr Great if you love adverts and fake profiles: Ads every few seconds are diving me insane. Also the number of fake profiles is infuriating. However, occasionally you can find a horny hook up
- [R6] Grindr Truth: Possibly the worst, most exploitive app available. Constantly diverts to ads that cannot be removed without deleting the app. Apple should remove this anti-LGBTQ+ disgrace. I can’t even rate the app because Apple won’t allow the stars to be rated. I’ve complained to OFCOM and my MP.
- [R7] Grindr Pop ups: Good to meet different people but the app is becoming unbearable with all the pop up ads and the age/face verification thing should be taken off because what if someone that’s closeted is using the app and get asked to have their face scanned, I’ll redownload the app when you take away the AI and the Subscriptions and the hundreds of Ads that pop up along with the facial recognition!
- [R12] Grindr To nany ads: There are far to many adverts for a xtart, onlu rated 1star as unable to gibe 0
- [R15] Grindr Too many adverts: Too many adverts
- [R1] Grindr BAN APPEAL: I was signing up to Grindr and had accidentally inputted the wrong DOB so the app thinks I’m a minor. I’m not and have valid proof of age ID. I contacted Grindr support about this and they said nothing can be done because I need an account for a ban appeal but I can’t even sign up for an account because my phone it banned from the app.
- [R14] Grindr Shi company: Shi company blocked my account didn’t allow me to appeal
- [R16] Grindr Emails are not being responded to at all: Sat here waiting for months to get a response on my ban appeal and still nothing! Utterly useless
- [R26] Grindr Banned: This app is a complete joke. Been banned for ‘phishing, fraud or harmful links’. Nothing could be further from the truth. Constant ads, app was unusable when I was able to use it. Customer service if you can call it that is hopeless. Avoid this app. It’s broken.
- [R59] Zoe Best app: This app is very easy to use and works perfectly! It’s a great place to meet new people, and it feel completely safe! I highly recommend!
- [R66] Zoe Good app: Great app, easy to use and navigate. Love how you can verify your identity so you can swipe past the fakes! Really enjoying!
- [R76] Zoe Easy too use: Admin really goes out of her way too make sure you feel safe and looked after. So far app is good and easy to use so far so good!
- [R80] Zoe Great: So far so good… liked it. I have found some people who are after our money but we can easily locate them. Make calls ask for voice notes and relay back. So stay safe and find the one we are seeking for
