Rocket Money vs EveryDollar
EveryDollar is the stronger choice for dedicated budgeters seeking a reliable, albeit sometimes frustrating, zero-based budgeting experience, while Rocket Money offers a broader range of financial management features with more mixed user feedback on core functionality.
EveryDollar, with a higher lifetime rating, is favored by users committed to a zero-based budgeting system, despite recent complaints about app updates and bank syncing. Rocket Money offers a wider array of features like subscription management and bill negotiation, but struggles with consistent bank connectivity and accurate expense tracking.
Head to head
Evidence note: Both apps have a significant number of negative recent reviews, often related to bank connectivity and app updates, which skews their current user sentiment compared to their higher lifetime ratings. The free-vs-paid asymmetry is evident in both, with free users of Rocket Money complaining about ads and limited features, and EveryDollar users annoyed by constant premium upgrade prompts.

- [R5] Rocket Money Rocket Money Worth Every Penny!: Rocket Money has really helped to organize our finances, see our spending clearly and take charge of how and when we spend our money! Alerts are extremely helpful! If you desire to take control of your money instead of having your money control you, then Rocket Money is a must have!! Absolutely love this app!! 5 stars is not enough!!
- [R8] Rocket Money No worries about what/when a bill is coming out!: It is a comfort to see at anytime when money is coming out of your account. Right at your fingertips,no searching for a bill - knowing what's coming i out and how much leeway I have for spending without over drawing.
- [R10] Rocket Money No rollover: There is a lot to love about this app EXCEPT the one thing that would make budgeting truly functional - the ability to rollover surplus or deficits in budget lines from month to month. They have a savings assistance option that they rolled out that you could use for excess perhaps - like if you are saving for a vacation, etc - but it doesn’t help if you have quarterly bills like water
- [R13] Rocket Money Not worth the money: This app isn't nearly what it advertises. "Unwanted subscriptions" are any payments of the same cost that seem to occur on a near-monthly basis. It referred to my transferring money to a friend a couple times as a subscription, among other things as well as the cost of me frequenting my favorite smoothie place? Speaking of subscriptions, though Rocket Money advertises clearing
- [R19] Rocket Money Clunky: Not helpful.
- [R21] Rocket Money Confusing: The app is very confusing to use. I thought it would be much simpler.
- [R23] Rocket Money Life and Money Saver: Convent and easy to use
- [R27] Rocket Money website/app: I find it difficult to navigate and find what I need
- [R1] Rocket Money So far it’s awful: I had really high hopes for this app and thought it was going to be super helpful but so far it’s kind of useless. It’s only picked up about half my expenses and is telling me I have way more money in my budget left to spend then I actually do.
- [R3] Rocket Money UBS connection broken?! I’m gonna stop paying!: I like Rocket Money I like that it tells me my balance and every morning and things that come through and things that are coming and whatever I’m already on top of my own subscription so that’s completely useless but the most inconvenient thing is the handshake between my bank UBS checking account and I don’t know what they use plaid whatever it is i
- [R12] Rocket Money I love the app! But-: I really do love the app and the service it offers. However, im frequently getting notifications of "refunds" that were purchases that I have made and I have to report the issue. Hopefully with the update I just did maybe that issue may be fixed but it throws me and the numbers in the app off and makes the experience frustrating.
- [R4] Rocket Money Costs me more than it helps: Costs me more money than it helps me save and I’ve keep trying to unsubscribe and it won’t let me… so frustrated
- [R9] Rocket Money Annoying: The app is functional and ok to use, but my god the ads are so insanely annoying. There’s no such thing as an average person needing to budget that would be clueless about 23 subscriptions costing them $500 a month and who’s idea was it to get people in a podcast setting to talk about this app as well? Worst marketing I’ve ever seen
- [R28] Rocket Money *BEWARE* Predatory charging: They will estimate the amount you owe them by how much they save you annually so 12 months and they don’t let you adjust the percent or time frame. So if they save you $50 a month they say they save you $600 a year and they charge you $300 if you set it to 50%. I was under the assumption it with the monthly payment because I plan on moving in 4 months. It’s just weird
- [R33] Rocket Money SCAM: They have charged my card for a premium membership for 6 months and I just noticed today. They did give me a full refund but please watch for any surprise charges to your account.
- [R7] Rocket Money Error: I want to cancel a subscription to ADT just keep getting an error message to try again later
- [R31] Rocket Money No help: I’ve been asking for help to get a money issues solved. And still till this day it’s hasn’t been fix. I’m just told to wait and nothing it’s been three months. And I can’t cancel or resolve the issues so I just have it.
- [R58] Rocket Money Scam: They charged me for the service twice and the customer support isn’t responding to my messages. This is fraudulent app
- [R73] EveryDollar Account syncing is broken: Some banks and accounts are not supported. When some banks are supported but experience significantly or frequent issues, the support team blame the bank and suggest switching banks. The app frequently pulls in duplicate transactions that have to be cleaned up every day. The app uses Plaid which doesn’t allow individual connections, such as mfa for me and mfa for my spou
- [R16] Rocket Money Subscriptions: I only joined for subscription. review but it said none. That’s wrong
- [R34] Rocket Money Useless App: Thought this was supposed to make it easier to view and cancel subscriptions. They want you to manually input every single subscription. Kinda defeats the purpose, no?
- [R35] Rocket Money Liz T.: Rocket Money saved me hundreds. Removed unnecessary subscriptions.
- [R62] EveryDollar Great app- dedicated to getting out of debt: So happy I found this app. On baby step 2 and have a plan to get out of debt. Love being able to see what i’ve spent in each category. Good visual on spending habits.
- [R86] EveryDollar Game Changer: Utilizing EveryDollar with the Ramsey plan helped up pay off $34,000 in car debt in just 6 months and stop asking the question, “where is all of our money going?” We now see where we spend each month, set spending boundaries, and are seeing real progress with our money goals. All of this while also taking a $30k pay cut to do full time ministry. We are very thankful for EveryDollar a
- [R92] EveryDollar Never too old: Turning 60 soon and a Baby Step Millionaire. Funny thing, EveryDollar still keeps me from wandering off the financial trail. Money drifts quietly. Small leaks become big expenses, and forgotten discipline becomes a habitual stupidity tax. EveryDollar keeps goals visible, spending intentional, and retirement plans moving in the right direction. A budget is not about restricting free
- [R108] EveryDollar Game changer: We have been using Every Dollar and following the “plan” for about 6 years. Best budgeting app out there. Before starting this journey we had mounds of credit card debit, car loans, student loan debt for my son, and a mortgage. We have been completely debt free including the mortgage for 5 years. We have a net worth of $ 1.5 million and will be able to retire early in 10 years.
- [R30] Rocket Money Navy federal: Rocket money will not let me log into my account with navy federal whatsoever
- [R56] Rocket Money Save: I have been trying to save money, but it won’t link to my account. It’s linked to my account, but it won’t pull every time. I try to put something into the savings. It won’t let me it keeps showing a negative.
- [R66] EveryDollar Limited: This ap is great as a budgeting tool. I don’t like that if I manually enter a debit or credit then it will duplicate and not match it when my bank feeds come through. This is a serious flaw if I’m supposed to know exactly what I’m spending! It also doesn’t have a normal ledger. It tracks the budget for the month and it shows transactions but it doesn’t show a running balance. I don’t like
- [R44] Rocket Money App is trash: This app is trash it does nothing like advertised it doesn’t lower your bills it just puts you in contact with scam companies offering garbage services that then sell your contact information starting a never ending harassment cycle. It also doesn’t help having a budget. That’s always two weeks behind on updating everything.
- [R48] Rocket Money Ugh: It’s impossible to log into this program. Nothing works.
- [R72] EveryDollar Annoyed!: I am very annoyed that now, in order to use the app, my phone has to be updated to a version that it does not support. Which means you people, who think that we shouldn't be spending money, now want me to spend money on a new phone in order to use your app. Ironic? I think so.
- [R80] EveryDollar I used to use this app…and now I can again!: For a company that stresses using money wisely, I’m surprised that your app can no longer be used with older iPhones. My iPhone 8 model is hardware-incompatible with iOS 17 and iOS 18, which I guess means you think I need to spend money unnecessarily on a new phone in order to keep using your app. Edit: thanks for changing your iOS 17 requirement so I
