EveryDollar
EveryDollar is a highly-rated budgeting app that helps users track spending and achieve financial goals, but recent updates have introduced significant bugs, connectivity issues, and user experience frustrations.
EveryDollar is a popular budgeting app praised for its ease of use and effectiveness in helping users manage finances and pay off debt R1R15. However, recent updates have led to numerous complaints about bank syncing problems, calculation errors, and a less user-friendly interface, impacting both free and paid users R10R17R2R3. The app's lifetime rating is high, but recent reviews indicate a negative trajectory due to these issues.

Who it's for
EveryDollar is for individuals or families committed to zero-based budgeting and getting out of debt, especially those following Dave Ramsey's financial principles R1R15. It is suitable for users who prefer a simple, visual budgeting tool and are willing to manually enter transactions if bank syncing issues persist R43. It is not for users who require seamless, real-time bank syncing with all financial institutions, detailed financial reporting, or who are unwilling to tolerate frequent app updates and occasional bugs R10R17R21R62.
Evidence note: The developer's notes mention updates for speed and smoothness, but recent reviews directly contradict this, with users reporting the app getting worse, slower, and having more bugs and crashes R4R21R32.

- [R1] Great app- dedicated to getting out of debt: So happy I found this app. On baby step 2 and have a plan to get out of debt. Love being able to see what i’ve spent in each category. Good visual on spending habits.
- [R6] Budgeting: It is very helpful for budgeting!
- [R7] Hopeful: How does adding more work (creating/maintaining a budget) help me? I’m already drowning! Well guess what? It does. Once I got my numbers down and created an every dollar budget, I am way more hopeful about my future! I’m very grateful for such an effective tool. In fact I’m so grateful I use one for my household finances and one for my business.
- [R15] Game Changer: Utilizing EveryDollar with the Ramsey plan helped up pay off $34,000 in car debt in just 6 months and stop asking the question, “where is all of our money going?” We now see where we spend each month, set spending boundaries, and are seeing real progress with our money goals. All of this while also taking a $30k pay cut to do full time ministry. We are very thankful for EveryDollar a
- [R12] Truly the best: I have tried several other budgeting apps and every dollar is by far the best.
- [R14] Fun budgeting tool: I love this app!! Fun to use. Quick & easy to input transactions. I’ve even done it at stop lights because I WANT to not because I have to. It’s great to see where expenses are piling up that I didn’t even realize before. Thank you Ramsey Solutions! I knew you’d make it work. I didn’t expect it to be fun
- [R43] Easy to use.: I’ve been using this app for easily over 5 years now, and I love it. It’s easy to use, and I like the free version because when I started using it I was able to build a habit of tracking my expenses by typing them in myself. I had the paid version where it pulled my bank charges over, but I found for myself that having to manually enter my transactions when I bought something helped
- [R55] Great for all income levels: We make a good living so I thought I didn’t need a budget. But when we kept coming up short after vacations I started this app and now we have money leftover almost every very month! I don’t stress about how much I can spend bc my budget tells me how much I can spend.
- [R18] Never too old: Turning 60 soon and a Baby Step Millionaire. Funny thing, EveryDollar still keeps me from wandering off the financial trail. Money drifts quietly. Small leaks become big expenses, and forgotten discipline becomes a habitual stupidity tax. EveryDollar keeps goals visible, spending intentional, and retirement plans moving in the right direction. A budget is not about restricting free
- [R38] Dark mode/ Financial Roadmap Margin: Dark mode is a great add, thanks. The monthly margin bent on being at least $100 to give a more accurate estimate of the financial roadmap is unrealistic. Accommodating real life events where the margin is less than $100 or $0 at any moment seems more plausible. Is there a good reason why it's like that? Can this be updated? Thanks.
- [R56] Great update: This new update is fantastic. Dark mode is very much appreciated! I would pay for premium if you added Apple’s finance kit so I could sync my Apple Card transactions. Would love for you guys to implement this to compete with Rocket Money and Monarch.
- [R83] Excellent Budgeting App!!: I’ve been using E$ for over 4 years. This app helped me on my journey to pay off $118k. The latest refresh of the app (with DAEK MODE!!) is way more fluid, snappy, and just overall amazing. Nice work, E$ team!
- [R84] New update: Love the new update with the dark feature! I also love how its a bit more techy looking. Love the layout!
- [R10] Plaid was a bad move: I’ve used this app for many years now, and since they made the switch recently to using Plaid to connect accounts to the app, it’s borderline useless. I want all of my posted transactions in my app once they’re posted to my bank account, not days and days later.
- [R11] Limited: This ap is great as a budgeting tool. I don’t like that if I manually enter a debit or credit then it will duplicate and not match it when my bank feeds come through. This is a serious flaw if I’m supposed to know exactly what I’m spending! It also doesn’t have a normal ledger. It tracks the budget for the month and it shows transactions but it doesn’t show a running balance. I don’t like
- [R17] Account syncing is broken: Some banks and accounts are not supported. When some banks are supported but experience significantly or frequent issues, the support team blame the bank and suggest switching banks. The app frequently pulls in duplicate transactions that have to be cleaned up every day. The app uses Plaid which doesn’t allow individual connections, such as mfa for me and mfa for my spou
- [R45] Duplicate Transactions: I’d leave 5 stars, but every 1-2 months, I get like 50-100 DUPLICATE TRANSACTIONS that I then have to manually delete, 1 by 1. Very annoying, very confusing, very time consuming for no reason at all. Otherwise enjoy the app very much!
- [R2] Math ain’t mathing: I have the free version but even the basics don’t work right. You would think that putting money into savings would remove it from your remaining amount to spend. But it doesn’t. For example if I say I’m budgeting 1,000 this month. And I put 100 in savings. It should say I have 900 left to spend. But it still says 1000 in my remaining budget. I hate having to do brain gymnastic
- [R65] New update leading to errors: The new update ruined the remaining to spend category. Now if you go over budget by say $500, it will tell you that you have $500 left to spend, not that you are $500 over
- [R68] Update sucks: Before the update it could track income and spending. Now it won’t track any income and doesn’t accurately reflect my budget anymore. It just shows what’s spent making it look like I have way less than what’s actually there. It’s not as helpful if I can’t also track what’s coming into my budget so I can actually get a real picture of my money.
- [R69] New update: I loved the app… but now with this new update it’s throwing off the numbers. Normally I plan my next month from the last paycheck of the current month (example last April paycheck used to start May budget) and usually it works. Now when I setup May budget and start putting transactions from in, it shows as if the money isn’t there because the app is not making money “available” until
- [R13] I used to use this app…and now I can again!: For a company that stresses using money wisely, I’m surprised that your app can no longer be used with older iPhones. My iPhone 8 model is hardware-incompatible with iOS 17 and iOS 18, which I guess means you think I need to spend money unnecessarily on a new phone in order to keep using your app. Edit: thanks for changing your iOS 17 requirement so I
- [R24] Unable to update on my old IPad: I have used this app daily for at least 7 years and am unable to update now as I am required to do to view my Budget. It states I must. I don’t have the latest operating system due to lack of memory. My grandchildren’s pictures will not be deleted to allow that upgrade. I do not need or want all the new Ramsey tips so hadn’t upgraded previously and was able to use
- [R26] Edited review: UPDATE: Thank you very much for making it so I can access the app!!! I felt so bereft not being able to open it. I’ve relied exclusively on this app for budgeting for so many years I can’t even remember when I started using it. I became debt free using this app. Again, thank you!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I have an older phone that will not update past iOS 16… let alone to iO
- [R27] App update: I’m not ready to upgrade my iphone8 yet so I can no longer use this app ( which I have used for years ) I am able to access by my laptop but it’s not nearly as smooth and easy as the app. Trying to live within my means. I’ll be saving up for a newer phone so I can continue budgeting To my very pleasant surprise, I am now again allowed access to the app! Thank you so much!!
- [R4] It keeps getting worse: It used to be incredible and it’s still decent but the ads and “fixes” are becoming less user friendly. It’s also not been working on my phone for 3 days.
- [R40] Premium: It’s really annoying being asked to sign up for premium every time I log into the app. Please don’t do this.
- [R50] Forced survey?: Let me enter in this item real quick… what is this survey? How do I get out of it? … I can’t? A loop until I answer? What if I don’t want to tell you what my hopes and dreams are so that they can be marketed back to me? What if I’m PAYING YOU $100 A YEAR to be a quick and convenient way to manage my money and all of your now “features” are just getting in the way of it? Stop.
- [R53] Not a streamlined experience: The whole point of budgeting at your fingertips is convenience and quick access. I am usually using this when I need to quickly input my expenses and move on. Half the time I’m having to log back in because it’s booted me out and now it tries to make me take this personalize your experience survey before I can even log in. We are researching other options at this poin
- [R3] Reorder: I used to love the ease of this app when it comes to reordering my budget. After the up date, while I can still re-order my budget, I can’t see the balances/total. Therefore, I cannot reorder for my big ticket items to come first. I used to be able to move everything around while being able to see the balances/total.
- [R19] Recent update is trash: Can no longer force update to pull in new charges. Please make this a feature again. I like to move charges to the appropriate baskets first thing in the morning.
- [R28] App WAS Near Perfect: I split transactions a lot, and now you can’t why did you ruin the app with this update??? Gotta cancel cause it’s unusable now.
- [R49] Split broken, transfer needed: The split function for transactions is somewhat broken. It will accept it if you input the correct amounts but it will no longer do the assist in helping you input the remaining amount for the split. Also in order to do transfers from one account to another i have to do a convoluted process to make it work because there is no transfer function. Like, if i have mone
- [R9] Monthly: Expenses vs Income: I rarely write reviews for apps, but I felt this one deserved it. One of the biggest shortcomings is the lack of a simple monthly income vs. expense summary. I shouldn’t have to view my finances in three-month increments just to understand how I did in a single month. I want to be able to see exactly how much I earned, how much I spent, and what my net total was for th
- [R20] Debt snowball: It’s great but why don’t y’all put the the debt snowball option in a tab. Like where we see what we’re paying and debt free dates…?
- [R21] Incomplete and slow: After many years of using this app, I am still at a loss for why there is not a built-in reconciling feature. Also quite frustrated that this app runs slowly given such a simple design.
- [R22] Not user friendly: Cannot change the goal without having to use the desktop. Will delete the app.
- [R23] Won’t download: Trying even with restarting the phone
- [R32] New update is trash: The app is currently being updated. Unfortunately they are releasing the app updates as they do them. Instead of making sure they work first with their beta testers. Just this week 5/22-29/26 I have had three separate issues come up. The only response from the help desk, is they will look into it and get back to me. Fix your app first before inconveniencing your subscribers.
- [R62] Doesn’t connect to banks. Premium is a scam: I’ve been using this app for literally years (and the biggest advocate) but the last like year or so, it won’t connect to my primary bank. Support just blames my bank and tells me to insert transactions manually “in the meantime” but then when it randomly does connect to my bank, I have all these duplicate transactions - and it’s been going on too long.
- [R64] Applecard Support Please: Please please please integrate Applecard support for automatic transaction sync. That is my main payment method for everyday transactions & support is built into iOS directly. YNAB currently supports it but I can’t transition to EveryDollar until it’s been implemented. Please 🙏
- [R118] Not worth the money: Doesn’t communicate with Affirm, Klarna or many other accounts. Have to manually enter a lot of things and if you are married and want to both budget, not possible. I’m sure this would work great for someone that is single that has accounts that communicate with the app. Not worth paying for.
- [R5] Not free: Got this to use as a simple check register billed as free. NOT FREE but you don’t find out until you’ve set up an account and given tons of information.
- [R58] Update fail: In new update, there is no way to login without “starting free trial” or paying. I have used the free version of this app for 11 years. Now I have to go to the website and sign in through the website to access the app. Please change this back.
- [R73] Premium Pitch: Stupid premium pitch every time I open the app I'm so tired of it
