Edison Mail is a decent free email app with useful features, but recent updates have introduced significant stability and connectivity issues, making the paid version questionable.
Edison Mail offers a clean UI and features like a Smart Assistant and one-tap unsubscribe in its free version, which many users appreciate for managing multiple email accounts. However, recent updates have caused widespread problems with account disconnections, freezing, and inaccurate notifications, leading many long-term users to consider alternatives.
Free vs paid
The free version of Edison Mail provides a clean user interface, the ability to combine multiple email accounts, a Smart Assistant for organizing packages, bills, and travel, one-tap unsubscribe, and spam blocking R5R16R31R35. The app also allows users to check multiple email accounts, including Gmail and iCloud, in one place R16R31. However, the paid 'Edison Mail +' version has received negative feedback, with one user stating it's "no better" than the free version and still suffers from slowness, glitches, and unresponsiveness R2. There are also frequent pop-up ads in the free version encouraging users to upgrade R27R144R151. Some users also report that certain features like conversation threads only work well for Gmail in the free version R367, and there are limitations on file upload size R114.

- [R2] Slow, Glitchy: I’ve reviewed this app before and got a response that didn’t make sense. I have used this app for quite a few years, I upgraded to the Edison Mail + and it’s no better. It slow most of the time, glitchy and non responsive when searching and trying to open a past email and constantly gives me alerts that I have email when I don’t. I only check email on my phone 98% of the time.
- [R27] Edison pop ad: Ever since the new update , I’m getting Edison Mail pop-up ads regularly asking me to upgrade. Is there anyway to stop it? It’s annoying. I’ll change my rating to 5 stars if you disable it.
- [R144] Annoying Reminders: Up until now, was satisfied with app. Recently though, have been receiving reminders to upgrade to Edison + app every two or three times I access my email. Not able to disable. Extremely annoying
- [R151] Cool but stop with the pop ups: Decided to bail on the default mail app. This app came suggested by AI. So far it’s been mostly good. Great UI and features, but do I really need a pop up asking me to overpay for unused features nearly every time I open the app? DELETE Guess we’ll keep looking for options.
- [R43] Nothing Works - Support in 48 Hours: Are these guys still in business? The app isn’t recognizing the $99 I paid 6 months ago; help errors out; constant errors; I found an off-App support email address; they emailed back that it takes 2 days to read emails Terrible.
- [R367] Great with one major flaw: This app is so good, especially for free. It has some great features that most would put behind a paywall. But, it has one big flaw; conversation threads don’t work for any email provider other than gmail. Come on, this is 2022! Message threading is such a basic requirement in an email app. Instead, if you don’t use gmail, your ten message conversation with a friend
- [R16] VERY GOOD: I just got it on my iPhone and I am very happy that I can check my gmail and my icloud in the same app so good j*b to the makers of this app
- [R31] Happy with Edison: I've been using the app for a few weeks now on my iPhone and iPad. I wanted an app to combine my three email accounts into one access point. Edison has done that very well. I like the clean UI and many features are available in the free version. I had an issue with my Microsoft account which was a Microsoft change issue not caused by Edison. Their support team was great in getti
- [R41] Email App-3rd times a charm!: So, I have a lot of emails from many different companies, sources, some important, most are trash. I almost gave up on finding an email application that could help me get more organized. 2 others failed. I’m already super impressed on day 2. Thank you.
- [R5] Better than the Apple mail!: I wanted a new email app because I was getting glitches with the Apple mail app. The largest issues for that for me was that many of my emails, usually from larger businesses, would take forever to load, and that Apple kept on changing the swipe functions on me. I then went to download Gmail, but my phone OS didn’t support it unfortunately. That led me to this app, E
- [R35] Love this mail app: Senders don’t see that you’ve opened there email! I only allow contacts in my Inbox so with this app, I can check a spam message if I suspect it might be not spam. They never know! Love the unsubscribe button, too
- [R60] The Email Upgrade You Didn’t Know You Needed. ✨ Get Your Email Game On Point & Love Your Inbox! 💌: Edison Mail has become my favorite email app because it’s super fast, easy to organize, and really helpful. The Smart Assistant keeps all my packages, bills, and travel info in one place, the one-tap unsubscribe is a lifesaver, and the spam blocking actually works. It’s easy to use, full of useful f
- [R114] Overall decent: I’ve used Edison Mail for many years now over the stock iOS Mail app. It’s generally convenient. I love the summary functionality and the ability to block emails on a domain level. Honestly awesome. BUT, the Max file upload size is 25 MB for some reason. I took a 25s screen recording file for an app developer and couldn’t send it via Edison. No issues uploading it with the st
- [R25] Great Response to Tech Issue: Sent a request to Support regarding a tech issue with my email that kept timing out and requiring to me to sign back in with login credentials multiple times a day. There was a detailed analysis within which a solution was provided that proved to be the key to eliminating my issue.
- [R55] A nice email option: I started using Edison email about two years ago. I have been happy with it for my various email accounts and the organizational tools it provides. During that time, I only had one issue which its support team took care of almost immediately.
- [R90] Great app: Customer service is amazing. They have a quick response and give you the step by step instructions. That is so appreciated.
- [R14] Hard to use some actions: Really hard to use slide right and left actions to mark as read/archive emails - the app, instead of detecting right or left actions tries to pull down to refresh. Added one star back since the app free.
- [R34] Bad since the update: I’ve used this app for YEARS and unfortunately might have to move on. Constantly disconnecting from my mail. For yahoo mail, forget it. Can’t even get past the page to allow access to my email. And no “deleting, reinstalling, and restarting your phone,” does not work. It’s the app. Something, somewhere, needs to be fixed. Also…. I don’t ever remember allowing access for the a
- [R39] Microsoft: Why are Microsoft email login out. Have to reconnect every time I open email? Good app otherwise.
- [R42] Outlook not working: They say that the app works if updated, but it does not. Buyer beware.
- [R44] Microsoft hotmail / outlook constantly disconnected: Since April 20, 2026, my hotmail was constantly disconnected. I have to reconnect, re-log in every time I open Edison mail. I tried to remove then add hotmail account back but it did not solve the problem.
- [R11] Long-standing issues still not fixed: *****SEARCH function totally useless and broken, seems to do a complete wildcard search query rather than the actual WORDS and STRING I'm looking at. Who is developing this app?!?****** It now keeps asking if I want to block calls from random emails? why? Other issues: Have to open email twice for it to be read. Swiping to open email results in massive del
- [R23] Search is beyond useless: For triaging email, this app works better than anything else. The Inbox/Other filtering is great. However, search is beyond useless. I've never once been able to find the email message I'm looking for if it's more than a few days old. I keep the Gmail app just so I can actually search for old messages.
- [R49] Does an OK job, search is horrible: Does a good job combining all my emails into one app but the search functionality is terrible.
- [R40] Badge Count Wrong: Badge count never accurate despite trying multiple fixes and adjustments.
- [R77] Pretty good: I like most of the features and functions of this app - except for one increasingly annoying issue: the notifications are NEVER accurate. It feels like it’s getting worse. Sometimes I’ll glance at my home screen, and the notification badge for this app will display something like “48” (not an exaggeration), but when I open the app there are zero new messages. Multiple refreshes will p
- [R126] 10+ years usage: Absolutely loved this app for so many years but over the last year or two I have had repeat issues over and over with my Gmail account. Saying I have emails unread but nothing new in my inbox, I’ll go days and weeks without getting any new emails to my Gmail account but directly logging into that account I can see I’m receiving emails daily. I’ve gotten to the point I have to aban
- [R1] Email: Disconnected me and can’t get back on
- [R7] App was great: I keep having issues as of late. Attachments won't load, app freezes when searching for an email. I've had to uninstall several times. This app used to be great and my go to for email for years. I'm starting to look for alternatives.
- [R9] Used to be great: App used to be great but lately it’s been laggy, takes a long time to load emails and has been freezing. Almost unusable so looking for a new provider.
