Google Docs
Google Docs is a highly useful and convenient free app for basic document creation and editing across devices, but its mobile version has significant limitations and performance issues that may frustrate power users.
Google Docs is widely praised as a free, easy-to-use, and highly efficient tool for writing and organizing documents, syncing well across multiple devices R2R4R5R7. However, the mobile app suffers from numerous functionality gaps, performance problems, and a clunky user interface compared to its desktop counterpart, leading to frustration for many users R3R24.
Free vs paid
The core Google Docs app is free to download and use, offering robust features for writing, editing, and organizing documents, including offline access and cross-device syncing R12R13R14. Users can create, edit, and share documents without charge R8R9R13R14. However, some users report encountering paywalls for additional storage R47R48. The app also features in-app purchases ranging from $1 to $199.99, which are likely related to Google Drive storage or other premium Google services, though specific details from reviews are limited.

Where it delivers
- The app is very handy, easy to use, and fulfills users' needs for document creation and editing.R2R4R8R13
- It works great and syncs well across devices, allowing users to access and modify documents anywhere, even offline.R5R7R12R13
- Google Docs is excellent for writing various content, from stories and essays to professional documents, and helps with organization and creativity.R6R9R13R14
- The tabs feature is appreciated for organizing notes, chapters, and stories within the app.R33
It is worth paying if you require more storage than the free tier offers for your documents and other Google Drive files, as some users report hitting storage limits R47R48.
Skip paying if you only need basic document editing and creation, as the core functionality is free R4R5R6R7. Also, if you primarily use the app on mobile and require advanced features like full export options, precise cursor control, multi-document viewing, or reliable spell/grammar check, you might find the free mobile experience frustrating and paying won't resolve these core app limitations R3R24R31R42.
Evidence note: The reviews primarily discuss the free functionality and performance of the app. While in-app purchases are listed, specific details about what they unlock or their perceived value are not extensively covered in the provided reviews, beyond general complaints about storage paywalls.

- [R47] paywall storage: I can’t believe that Google is making people pay for more storage. This is ridiculous.
- [R48] Es absurdo: Siempre dice que no tienes espacio
- [R2] Very handy app: Very handy app
- [R4] Works very well: Fulfills my needs well
- [R8] Easy: , easy to use, always freedom to hesitate as well as create,
- [R13] Best app to write a book, or anything: From writing essays, homemade magazines, and even books, I’m (currently doing) it all. But not without one person, Google Docs! It’s super easy, and all of the tools are really helpful. Tip: if you’re trying to transfer Google Docs on a new device, but already had it on another, all you have
- [R5] Works great: The app works great as Google Docs service as well.
- [R7] Perfect: Thank You so much for making this app I don’t have to be on my laptop anymore to make a document!
- [R12] Fascinante: Me encanta porque puedo subrayar, marca con diferentes colores lo que sea interesante y importante,así mismo que puedo habría el archivo en otro dispositivo, como también si no tengo internet puedo abrir y hacer modificaciones.
- [R6] it has everything a writer needs: it's so perfect for writing characters, stories, and anything you could possibly want. it's awesome but i kinda wish as a mobile app it was a little easier to use, yk?
- [R9] Make my Life Easier: I have done my own office billing since opening in 1978, with the use of Google’s drive WOW I no longer spend $ on postage providing operative reports or any other documents that need to attached to 1500 claim forms !!
- [R14] My Life Without Docs…: My life without google docs would be extremely inconvenient. I’ve been using it for years and it’s helped me keep organized and allows my creativity to freely flow. Docs and Drive carry some of my most precious content.
- [R33] Thank you for the tabs feature!!!: I’m a little late, as this has been a feature for a long time, but I love love the tabs feature. I use docs primarily for recreation: I creative write in my free time. Having tabs makes it easier to organize notes, chapters, stories, whatever I am working on without having to jump from doc to doc (which I used to do). The only thing I would improve for docs is
- [R3] Share & Export: Not an app worth using, save your time and just go to docs in your safari browser, I would use this app if it had an option to export your file as whatever file type you want. There is no way to change in the app the file type you would prefer to download your files as, the only option is docx lol
- [R24] Can’t move cursor: When trying to change text in a document you cannot place the cursor where you want to delete a letter. Instead you have to delete a whole word. Quite frustrating.
- [R31] Poor experience: Can’t use pen, not sure if I can use voice to write content
- [R36] Writing a review: I usually don’t write reviews but I figured I’d write one for one of my most used apps, Google Docs. I’m actually going to give this four stars because there are a few things you cant do on the mobile app, like indent?? For some reason. If only I could indent like I could on desktop that would make it easier to use. For this reason I mainly use Google Docs to read what I’ve writt
- [R42] Lags quite a bit: I give it 3 stars because overall it is a good app, however, it has some seriously annoying performance issues that have been bugging me for a while. I am mostly writing this review in the hopes that one of the devs will see it and take a look at the issues. The first issue is the amount of available options in the menu, unlike the browser version there is only a single scroll ba
- [R72] Slop: Worst app ever, also has horrendous memory leaks
- [R113] Underwhelming: Google attempts to force users to use their app whenever accessing any of their products through a tablet or mobile device, just to bring us an interface that lags and slows down to a halt whenever you type more than one sentence. Now that the app has been downloaded, there is no chance to open documents through a web browser because Google automatically opens Google Docs with their
- [R200] Glitchy app: So glitchy and slow on mobile that had to stop
