Recurring themes

App Stability negative
A pervasive issue is the app's instability, with numerous reports of it crashing, freezing, or locking up multiple times a day or week. Users frequently need to force-quit and restart the app to get it working again. This directly contradicts the developer's vague update notes.R3R7R9R14
Accuracy mixed
While many long-time users praise the app for its hyper-local accuracy and reliability, especially with personal weather stations, a significant number of recent reviews report the forecasts are frequently inaccurate, off by many degrees, or inconsistent with actual conditions.R2R4R8R12
Lack of Updates/Features negative
Users are frustrated by the lack of updates, with the app seemingly abandoned for over a year. This results in missing common features like widgets, outdated map labels, and persistent bugs that go unaddressed.R10R17R19R42
Ads & Monetization negative
The free version is heavily criticized for an excessive number of ads, which some find intrusive, inappropriate, or make the app unusable. There are also complaints about the subscription model for the paid version and the need to pay for separate accounts for online and app access.R6R11R32R46
Location Issues negative
Users frequently report problems with the app's location services, such as pulling up the wrong city, not understanding zip codes, or failing to refresh location data correctly when switching between saved places.R2R16R140R151

Who it's for

This app is for weather enthusiasts who value hyper-local data, especially from personal weather stations, and are willing to tolerate frequent app glitches and a lack of updates R55R66. It's also for those who appreciate detailed meteorological information like storm cones and pressure graphs R55.

Evidence note: The recent reviews skew heavily negative, which contrasts with the lifetime store rating. The decline in app stability and accuracy is a strong theme across many recent reviews, suggesting a negative trajectory for user sentiment. Evidence for specific features like hurricane trackers R17 or internal home temperature monitoring being missing is thin, based on single reviews.

  1. [R12] 5/5 · US Long time user: I love this app! I’ve been using it forever! I can’t remember the first time I downloaded it. At least a decade ago? Thank you for the graphs and everything! I just moved up north, 2.5 hours north of Saint Paul, to Duluth, and your app has helped me navigate my new life with VERY different weather. Lake Superior is dynamic and your app has helped me gauge my day. Thank you for the
  2. [R20] 5/5 · US Excellent App: I’ve been using weather underground for many years and find it to be very accurate, easy to navigate and and excellent resource. I always have the radar summary for Roswell open for review since we have frequent severe weather. This and radar provide excellent resources to prepare for such weather. Nice Job!
  3. [R55] 5/5 · US Despite it all, I really like it !: The type of "crowd sourced" data is good, and I love the altitude tops of storm clouds + expected paths. 1) The altitude data is helpful in predicting possible storm dangers. 2)The number of data points is especially useful for very local rainfall, etc. The numbers may be quite different than the airport! Maps, layers, and frontal lines & detail is great. Yes
  4. [R66] 5/5 · US The most accurate: Literally the most accurate weather app I’ve ever used. Consistently, for decades. Still the best weather app around. It’s the only one I bother with most of the time. I don’t live in a city, so individualized weather locations make a difference. This is one of the very few that gets it right, usually the only one that gets it right. Thank you for being so great, don’t ever cha
  5. [R26] 5/5 · US Excellent real time data: Great review of weather, pending weather, temperature, and humidity status.
  6. [R22] 3/5 · US Radar lag?: I discovered Weather Underground long before I could even get a smartphone. I’ve always liked it and have never even tried anything else. I have noticed a severe lag in the radar image to the point it is almost worthless. A thunderstorm capable of producing tornadoes came through and was gone before the radar image even crossed my location on the map. A 15-30 minute lag is ridiculous w
  7. [R114] 5/5 · US Years of reliably: I’ve had this app for years and years, possibly 10. During summer boating season or through harsh winters this app has been perfect. And having no forced ads is perfect. Nothing much to say, other than 3.9 star ratings gotta go up.
  8. [R3] 1/5 · US Weather app: While using this app it keeps locking up. It has to be closed and opened before it works again.
  9. [R7] 2/5 · US Quirky: Locks up frequently, several times a week. One of the worst apps except the content is ok. Looking for better.
  10. [R9] 1/5 · US Freezes several times a day: This app freeze this between three and four times a day and the only way to resolve it is to restart my phone. Totally unacceptable. I’ve emailed Support with no resolution at all.
  11. [R14] 3/5 · US App constantly crashes: I actually really like this app because it gives me very local forecasts, I can see weather conditions at my family members’ weather stations, it sends weather alerts to my notifications, and we used to be able to connect our Lacrosse weather station to Weather Underground. Recently, the app has become frustrating to use because every time I change my view from the main vi
  12. [R2] 1/5 · US Constantly gives wrong information: The app pulls up the wrong city all of the time. It does not understand ZIP Codes when you try to correct it. When you finally do get the city you want, you get the forecast for the previously shown city. I have nothing but problems all the time using this website and app.
  13. [R4] 2/5 · US Not Accurate: This used to be my favorite app for weather but it has since been removed. It never seems to be accurate compared to others that my family in the SAME house are using. It’s just not reliable anymore.
  14. [R8] 1/5 · US Gone downhill: This used to be a useful app. Right now it says it is 61 degrees near my home with a high of 61 and a low of 60, but in three hours it will be 70. Can’t even to the basics right now.
  15. [R13] 2/5 · US Used to be good: I’m kind of heartbroken writing this review. I have been using Wunderground before smartphones. I’m talking since like 2002 when I was only available on the computer. I’ve been loyal to Wunderground for almost 25 years. However, I’ve noticed lately, the app has been SO inaccurate! The forecasting has been so off. We will be estimated to get storms, then nothing happens, or vise ve
  16. [R23] 3/5 · US WU - maybe: While it goods very good weather of what’s happening now, it’s radar and satellite maps are all in the pasts, and no ability to track a storm which may or may not be heading to your area. Support is not existent- sent two requests and not even a robo-response …
  17. [R35] 1/5 · US Frustrated: Radar sucks and rain totals have never been close I adcvixe my farmer friends to get a different app not reliable
  18. [R36] 1/5 · US Never in sync: Always behind Radar is showing hours old footage Pouring rain and it shows Clear When my other app shows a huge front moving And whether underground shows the same front an hour or two west of us 👎👎👎👎👎
  19. [R16] 5/5 · US Frequently wrong on rain forcasts 🙄!: Frequently wrong on rain forecasts 🌧️! Now, all of a sudden this app is showing my current location as the town next to ours...even though I have my actual location starred ⭐️ and have been looking up weather for it since I installed the app. There's noway for me to correct it.
  20. [R140] 4/5 · US Flaky Location Refresh: I have relied on this app for years and keep hoping the developers will improve the automatic refresh when I change a location. If I change the location from location A to location B, the app still displays several weather details for location A. I have to force a refresh by drilling down into a particular day and then back up again, whereupon the weather data appears to ma
  21. [R151] 3/5 · US Location app selects to open: My home is not the same as your "chosen" location. It will not change to my area. The temperature in real life is about 2-3 degrees cooler. Thinking about deleting your app. It is not helping me.
  22. [R10] 3/5 · US Add the Wunder map: It’s been years since this app has gotten a makeover… still great and useful, but toss us a bone, please. I’d pay a little for a seamless Wunder map.
  23. [R19] 2/5 · US Poor design and support: Gives an option for a widget but didn't show on widget pocker. Long story short their AI says it isn't an option even if the menu says it is. It sends me an option to talk to human. I say yes but the session ends. Dumb. I'll be canceling my subscription
  24. [R42] 3/5 · US Good not best: The closest weather station is 1/4 mile away. That's good. The not so good, weathet underground does not have a widget, you always have to open the app and go to the map, enlarge the map and find the closest weather station to get the closest temperature.
  25. [R71] 5/5 · US Weather: When’s the next update?
  26. [R6] 2/5 · US Hyper local and hyper ad-driven: sooo many ads that the free version is unusable. the paid version is subscription instead of a set price. lame.
  27. [R32] 1/5 · US Good app to many adds: Good app to many adds the problem is there is no way to log in as I have a weather station call sign thru weather underground and I get add free online but sense no way to login just get bumbarted with adds. Need fixed
  28. [R84] 5/5 · US Nice App: Like the format and accuracy, I get a message now about running a ad blocker asking to turn it off because ads pay for the app. I get it that but, from a user's perspective that also puts us at risk as ads are not vetted and many times will be flagged by my anti virus and malware alerts. I'd gladly turn mine off if ads were vetted and not stupid like a 3rd grader made them.
  29. [R100] 3/5 · US Good weather, bad ads: Half-naked, sexualized woman in ads; don’t want my kids seeing that in an app that’s supposed to be for weather
  30. [R1] 3/5 · US Acurite Iris 5 in 1 Device showing Offline: My device frequently disconnects from the Wunderground weather Map. I spend hours trying to rectify their issues. It’s a nice APP WHEN IT WORKS !
  31. [R24] 5/5 · US I lov it: But I can’t sign in but I need help to fixed it. Please…. That’s my favorite so much. Don’t waiting, please.. Meteorologist Mark Schulz 👩🏿‍🦼❤️💯
  32. [R30] 2/5 · US Lost home station: I have my personal home station linked to this app….guess I should say did have it linked. Just disappeared, so now I’m using a different app.
  33. [R18] 1/5 · US Has Been: This used to be a good app, now can’t get anything but the radar. No temp or other readings anymore. Have tried to get in touch with the app people for over a year without any type of response= poor customer support!!!
  34. [R5] 2/5 · US Sort favorite locations: With all the app offers, why is a user not able to sort favorite locations? It’s a simple feature offered by most apps why not Wunderground?
  35. [R17] 1/5 · US There is no hurricane tracker in the iOS app: The App Store advertisement says there is a hurricane tracker. However, whether underground own Chatbot says it does not exist on the iOS app.
  36. [R27] 2/5 · US Way too difficult: You would think in 2026 things would be easy but hell no this is the hardest damn setup I’ve ever seen for something that should be innocuous.
  37. [R11] 1/5 · US Expensive: Too costly
  38. [R46] 1/5 · US Money Money Money: I have used Weather Underground for many years. I even provide data feeds from personal weather stations. It is complete and utter garbage that “they” expect you to pay for separate accounts for online and the app. There are plenty of other options (some even better). I will not pay for the same data twice, especially since I only access it one way at a time.
  39. [R33] 1/5 · US You are better than this!: I have seen changes in inches of rain with on a 1-1/2 to 2 hour period several times in the past week or two. I lost several trees in the freezes this year when you missed the temperature forecast by better than 10*, I had taken the insulation away from trees because it was “only” dropping to 38* and the next morning it was 28*. Your app has become Very unreliable.
  40. [R61] 1/5 · US I give up: This used to be my favorite weather app, but it has declined significantly. The temperatures are often wrong by as much as 20 degrees, it shows conditions from days earlier rather than currently, and is basically unreliable. Going back to the standard Apple weather app.
  41. [R81] 4/5 · US Favorite: Been my favorite for years. I don’t see much in the way of glitches, but I do want to put it in my iPhone 13 widgets and it never shows up on the widget list so I can’t put it in my widgets which would make it more useful. I have tried everything.
  42. [R115] 3/5 · US Would be more useful with a widget: Downloaded today and the app seems to be accurate but there is no way to quickly see the weather at a glance. A widget would be helpful.
  43. [R25] 1/5 · US unreal: for the many years i have had it this simple app crashes more than ANY app i have ever used on mac os and ios combined. half the time i open it it is broken. force quit works to fix, but it is pathetic.
