Ride with GPS vs Map My Ride With GPS Tracker
Map My Ride With GPS Tracker is generally more reliable for basic ride tracking and ease of use, while Ride with GPS offers more advanced route planning and navigation features for serious cyclists, despite its usability issues.
Map My Ride With GPS Tracker (App B) is praised for its ease of use and consistent tracking over many years, though some users report GPS inaccuracies and issues with data syncing. Ride with GPS (App A) offers superior route planning and navigation for complex rides but is often criticized for its clunky interface, syncing problems, and high cost.
Head to head
you are a serious cyclist who needs advanced route planning, mapping, and navigation for complex or off-road adventures, and you are willing to overlook a clunky interface and potential syncing issues for powerful features R23R54.
you need a straightforward, easy-to-use app for basic ride tracking (distance, time, pace) and prefer a generally reliable experience for logging your cycling activities .
Evidence note: Both apps have a free tier and in-app purchases. Many negative reviews for both apps stem from free-tier limitations (ads, locked features) or issues with being charged immediately for a 'free' trial. This skews recent reviews negatively for both, making direct comparisons on price/value challenging as paying users often self-select as satisfied.

- [R23] Ride with GPS Way better than Strava: Ride with GPS has been excellent. The route planning, mapping, and navigation tools are far better than what I’ve been able to do with Strava, especially for real outdoor riding, gravel routes, and planning bigger rides. The customer service has also been great. They actually respond and help solve problems, which makes a big difference. Dylan’s tutorials are excellent too
- [R54] Ride with GPS Best routing software: RWGPS is incomparable. It is the best routing Software on the planet with the feature set that no one can match. The complete ecosystem of the app and the web-based routing tool, especially with a paid membership is indispensable for a serious route crafter. I’ve tried other tools, and none can compete, especially for complex routing situations.
- [R24] Ride with GPS Could be excellent but has fundamental flaws: In general, and for very simple actions, this is a good app. It reliably tracks rides and provides good turn-by-turn route following instructions. BUT it has one major flaw, which renders it pretty much useless in my book. The problem lies in the ‘Explore’ function, where you search for nearby routes. This feature is downright awful. Let’s say you a
- [R11] Ride with GPS Climbs are being added as descents: I like this app enough to purchase a year subscription. However, there is an issue that I am hoping can be resolved. Someone with Ride with GPS has escalated a ticket to developers but issue still not resolved. The Climb section isn’t showing climbs. Climbs appear to be added to descents. Curious if anyone else is experiencing this issue.
- [R8] Ride with GPS Lousy instructions: You people need serious help with intuitiveness
- [R13] Ride with GPS Confusing: Confusing to end a ride even for my tech savvy son. If it starts OUT that way what other frustrating stuff have your IT folks put in it?
- [R22] Ride with GPS Mobile app: The mobile app on phone is clunky and doesn’t easily give points of destination accurately. Also not intuitive in using. I have been using RideGPS for a few years now but mostly on the laptop which is better than the mobile phone version.
- [R28] Ride with GPS Terrible UX: I hate that this app is a necessary evil. The UX is terrible. Dark patterns where you go to do something and find out you have to upgrade to get it.
- [R31] Ride with GPS Rarely works: When it works, it’s great. Unfortunately, it rarely works.
- [R1] Ride with GPS well - its not good: The app does not save my progress and I fear it will bill me even though I did not intend to give it that permission. Having trouble deleting my account now.
- [R10] Ride with GPS Not what I would like!: The basic app is all I want or need. My biggest disappointment is that I can’t consistently save my rides! The app won’t see my home WiFi. As a result, the ride doesn’t get recorded. This seems to be happening more often. It’s happened twice this month.
- [R3] Ride with GPS Frequent Apple Watch issues: The app frequently failed to record heart rate data from my watch. This has been an ongoing issue for over a year..
- [R25] Ride with GPS Ouch $$$$$: Too expensive for me
- [R6] Ride with GPS Needs Update: The Home Screen looks like it was designed a decade ago. The cost seems high for the features provided
- [R34] Ride with GPS Can’t navigate: Have always been able to follow navigation without having to pay. Got started on a sponsored race and found out I had to pay in order to use the navigation. This put me at risk and in danger in the middle of a ride to have to try to figure out how to pay or get lost or worse.
- [R53] Ride with GPS Useless: Literally a brick without subscription. No navigation or planning is possible
- [R4] Ride with GPS Bad Account Support: There is no way to manage your subscription using the app
- [R7] Ride with GPS Doesn’t actually sync with Wahoo: Doesn’t sync with My Elemnt. Keeps putting me in a loop appwise despite my signing up for a membership. Then online my membership is not showing. Terrible. PS my device DID ack connect new app RWGPS and STILL could not send route to device. WTF. Now I have to download GPX. What friggin year is this, 1999?
- [R21] Ride with GPS Garmin: Finding it hard to sync with Garmin devices. When it does sync, the route is pretty extraordinary and I spend most of my time “off course”. This could be as much a problem with Garmin but it should be easier.
- [R63] Map My Ride With GPS Tracker Wish it connected to the health app: Mac
- [R19] Ride with GPS Bad tracking and late notifications: App does not accurately map tracks and notifies you of turns after you pass the waypoint. Rode over and extra mile for difficult MTB trails due to bad tracking
- [R45] Ride with GPS No thanks. We’re done.: Trip in Holland was the worst ever directions. Kept giving mirrored directions. And took us through the worst route through cities in rush hour. Dangerous situations.
- [R66] Map My Ride With GPS Tracker Milage: GPS mileage is off other that works well
- [R76] Map My Ride With GPS Tracker Utterly unreliable: That app completely unreliable. On a regular basis is does not track my bike ride accurately. Today it was off by nearly a mile on an 8 mile ride. It shows my cutting through peoples yards, riding through houses, cutting corners, etc. It’s a joke. It accurate more often than not, but the rate of inaccuracy is completely unacceptable.
- [R48] Ride with GPS Great: My go to app for rides. Free mode and it’s on point. Thank you!!
- [R104] Map My Ride With GPS Tracker Great App!: Good solid app with a lot of cool free features. A bit confused on how to connect to my garmin watch, but besides that very useful!
- [R75] Map My Ride With GPS Tracker Why ads?????: It’s fine. It does what I want. But it gives me ads every time I open it. I just want to open and ride. That’s it.
