Who it's for
This app is for serious route crafters and cyclists who prioritize detailed route planning and navigation, especially for complex, gravel, or off-road adventures R31R14R16. It's also suitable for those who prefer a robust alternative to Strava or Garmin for route creation R14R37. However, it is not for users seeking a simple, intuitive mobile experience, those on a tight budget, or individuals who rely heavily on seamless integration with Apple Health or specific Wahoo/Garmin devices R23R24R312.
Evidence note: The recent reviews skew negative, with a 0.345 recent-negative ratio, which contrasts with the high lifetime rating of 4.73. This suggests a recent decline in user satisfaction, possibly due to new bugs or changes in the app. The developer's notes mention 'bug fixes and performance improvements,' but many recent reviews directly contradict this, reporting new or persistent bugs and performance issues.

- [R14] Way better than Strava: Ride with GPS has been excellent. The route planning, mapping, and navigation tools are far better than what I’ve been able to do with Strava, especially for real outdoor riding, gravel routes, and planning bigger rides. The customer service has also been great. They actually respond and help solve problems, which makes a big difference. Dylan’s tutorials are excellent too
- [R16] So good: Wouldn’t leave my house with making a quick and easy route that avoids traffic and google map errors. Always make it an adventure taking the gravel and back alley routes.
- [R31] Best routing software: RWGPS is incomparable. It is the best routing Software on the planet with the feature set that no one can match. The complete ecosystem of the app and the web-based routing tool, especially with a paid membership is indispensable for a serious route crafter. I’ve tried other tools, and none can compete, especially for complex routing situations.
- [R37] So much better than a Garmin: I just completed a seven hour pre-mapped ride using Ride with GPS. Ride with GPS is such a better experience than Garmin. It gives you term by term prompts just like Garmin and you actually get to see where you are just like you would when you a map app for directions when driving. It’s also just a much easier interface truly like you’re using an app versus Garmin,
- [R9] Make the ride more enjoyable!: Using this app made our bike ride in Acadia more enjoyable. Easy to use with preloaded trails and audible directions so no stopping to read paper map.
- [R18] Great Tool: Ride with GPS is a fantastic way to find rides. Whether at home or traveling I have found rides that fit my needs and are enjoyable.
- [R55] LOVE LOVE LOVE!!: By far the best riding app in the App Store. I ride my e-bike everywhere, and this app has helped me discover places and views I probably would have never seen in my life otherwise. It has truly been a life changer for both my riding experience and my mental health, giving me the opportunity to get outside, explore, and find peace.
- [R27] Great app to navigate by: Ride w/ GPS is just about flawless when it comes to staying on track on a gravel race or adventure ride.
- [R273] Could be excellent but has fundamental flaws: In general, and for very simple actions, this is a good app. It reliably tracks rides and provides good turn-by-turn route following instructions. BUT it has one major flaw, which renders it pretty much useless in my book. The problem lies in the ‘Explore’ function, where you search for nearby routes. This feature is downright awful. Let’s say you a
- [R56] We’ve used RWGPS for years: All of our club routes are on RWGPS. It’s easy to download to wherever GPS you use and keeps everyone on the same page. Tech support has been outstanding the few times we’ve needed it.
- [R28] Great: My go to app for rides. Free mode and it’s on point. Thank you!!
- [R40] Where have you been?: Now I have an answer. I am doing the free version because I do not subscribe to subscriptions!
- [R52] Great free app!: Very helpful for the geographically challenged and pretty easy to use for the tech- challenged!
- [R1] well - its not good: The app does not save my progress and I fear it will bill me even though I did not intend to give it that permission. Having trouble deleting my account now.
- [R12] Not what I would like!: The basic app is all I want or need. My biggest disappointment is that I can’t consistently save my rides! The app won’t see my home WiFi. As a result, the ride doesn’t get recorded. This seems to be happening more often. It’s happened twice this month.
- [R22] Bad tracking and late notifications: App does not accurately map tracks and notifies you of turns after you pass the waypoint. Rode over and extra mile for difficult MTB trails due to bad tracking
- [R115] 1hr :22 & 7ft: Rode 1:22 & only recorded 7ft. This was in a city that has plenty of cellular coverage & data was on. Oh well “that’s just the way it is.”
- [R5] Lousy instructions: You people need serious help with intuitiveness
- [R13] Confusing: Confusing to end a ride even for my tech savvy son. If it starts OUT that way what other frustrating stuff have your IT folks put in it?
- [R20] Needs Update: The Home Screen looks like it was designed a decade ago. The cost seems high for the features provided
- [R23] Mobile app: The mobile app on phone is clunky and doesn’t easily give points of destination accurately. Also not intuitive in using. I have been using RideGPS for a few years now but mostly on the laptop which is better than the mobile phone version.
- [R32] Should have more Intelligence: Ride With GPS is my go to app for bike ride navigation. Generally works well. But it will send you in the wrong direction on a figure 8 course. The app doesn’t have built in intelligence to understand whether you are coming or going and it will send you on the return leg rather than sending you in the mapped ride direction. This should be an easy fix but this bug has
- [R38] Not recommended for navigation: So far it’s let me down three times, and you’re out! 👎
- [R62] No thanks. We’re done.: Trip in Holland was the worst ever directions. Kept giving mirrored directions. And took us through the worst route through cities in rush hour. Dangerous situations.
- [R225] Needs more work: I have two issues: 1) the only way to get turn by turn on my Apple Watch seems to be to press the record button on the app (the only button on the watch). But this caused the watch to record a duplicate ride in my library. 2) when I’m off route the app will just keep complaining but is not smart enough to get me back onto the route like any other navigator would do. 3) [update] I
- [R7] Frequent Apple Watch issues: The app frequently failed to record heart rate data from my watch. This has been an ongoing issue for over a year..
- [R83] Absolutely horrible.: The iOS version freezes up more than a naked Eskimo. This is true for both my iPhone, and my iPad, both of which are the latest. When it isn’t frozen, it is merely unresponsive. Don’t waste your money or your emotional well-being on this pile of garbage. The accuracy is a sadististical joke. Honestly, look elsewhere. This company doesn’t deserve to be in business.
- [R155] Good but not great: I find this app a bit glitchy. Sometimes it’s hard to find the routes for completed rides. Ending a ride is needlessly complicated. I wish there was a way to edit.
- [R405] Almost perfect: I used RWGPS on my iPhone 6 alongside the Wahoo RFLKT, TICKR and cadence sensor. It works well for navigation although it will occasionally tell me I'm off course when I'm not, and I love the ability to customise the screens. However, if I pause for any reason, I tend to lose connection to either my cadence sensor or HRM - it's very unusual to have both working at once and to be
- [R49] promised free trial, but charged me immediately: The sign-up screen promised a seven day free trial, but then they immediately charged me.
- [R111] Subscription: Downloaded to follow someone’s route for one evening and forgot to cancel the free trial and lost sixty bucks
- [R149] Beware: I canceled this before the trial period ended but was charged anyway. And conveniently for the app, the contact link via email within the app is broken. A disappointing experience.
- [R85] Still no dark mode…: A decade later, another update later and still no native dark mode support and the app still has the iOS UI from a decade ago. Here’s for hoping the next release update…
- [R312] Workout route maps are not sync’d to Apple: Actually I think this is the only app that doesn't send the route to Apple Health so I cannot think why they excluded this functionality. Otherwise nearly great.
- [R467] Dark mode: This app should have a dark mode. Cmon!!
- [R531] Needs health app integration: It's a great app but really needs to be integrated with the iOS health app!
- [R24] Ouch $$$$$: Too expensive for me
- [R43] Terrible UX: I hate that this app is a necessary evil. The UX is terrible. Dark patterns where you go to do something and find out you have to upgrade to get it.
- [R73] Useless: Literally a brick without subscription. No navigation or planning is possible
- [R2] Bad Account Support: There is no way to manage your subscription using the app
- [R10] Doesn’t actually sync with Wahoo: Doesn’t sync with My Elemnt. Keeps putting me in a loop appwise despite my signing up for a membership. Then online my membership is not showing. Terrible. PS my device DID ack connect new app RWGPS and STILL could not send route to device. WTF. Now I have to download GPX. What friggin year is this, 1999?
- [R36] Awesome app with my Hammerhead: This app is truly amazing for all my adventures.
- [R50] No sharing rides: Good enough for following along, but man it’d be nice to be able to export files
