Verizon Call Filter vs Robokiller
Robokiller is the better choice for dedicated spam blocking, offering more consistent performance and advanced features like answer bots, despite its higher cost, while Verizon Call Filter struggles with reliability and blocking important contacts.
Robokiller generally offers more effective spam call blocking and unique features like answer bots, though it comes at a significant cost. Verizon Call Filter, while free for basic features, is plagued by inconsistent blocking, app bugs, and issues with blocking legitimate contacts.
Head to head
You are a Verizon customer looking for a free or low-cost solution and are willing to tolerate inconsistent performance and potential issues with legitimate calls, hoping for some reduction in spam R2.
You are willing to pay a significant subscription fee for generally more effective spam blocking and unique features like answer bots, and you prioritize reducing the volume of spam calls over cost R62.
Evidence note: Both apps have a significant number of negative reviews, often citing similar issues like spam calls getting through and legitimate calls being blocked. Robokiller's negative reviews are heavily skewed by its high price, which is a major point of contention for many users.

- [R1] Verizon Call Filter No Change: Hasn’t done anything at all, no activity after a month of use.
- [R2] Verizon Call Filter Wait for keeping out pesky calls: It is a true work of art to keep out the pesky calls. I love it.
- [R4] Verizon Call Filter Allows spam calls and blocks important contacts: I get dozens of spam calls every day. This app blocks 5% to 15% of them. It also, despite my best efforts, blocks the alarm monitoring company for the building I manage. I NEED to get those calls, so I am uninstalling this app.
- [R6] Verizon Call Filter Getting more Spam calls: The App is missing 75-80% of the spam calls now, even on the upgraded plan.
- [R16] Verizon Call Filter Doesn’t actually work: Didn’t block a single of the spam calls I received over the span of 24 hours I had this app installed on my phone, but it did block my boss (who is one of my contacts). Totally pointless and affirmatively causing problems.
- [R29] Verizon Call Filter Spam or not Spam: Two of my calls were classified as spam although they were not spam.
- [R32] Verizon Call Filter Helpful Most times: Sometimes my driver is trying to call me from Uber and can’t get through because the number isn’t recognized so they cancel the ride which had led to me being late for work.
- [R3] Verizon Call Filter No voicemails: I can’t receive voicemails. You can’t even hear my recording for leaving a message. It just hangs up. This is even for my saved contacts that call. I’ve tried a lot of spam blockers over the past year. I’m not sure how effective they are or if the robocallers/spammers are just relentless. But the volume seems slightly improved over the last 3 months I’ve tried this one.
- [R25] Verizon Call Filter No longer effective: I loved having this appp and didn’t mind paying for it because it would stop all spam calls . I renewed it twice and now it sucks . I get spam calls and they’re able to leave voicemails . This is beyond annoying , idk what to do now
- [R26] Verizon Call Filter It used to work: Something happened over the past couple of weeks because it was blocking my spam calls. Now the spam calls are coming through and going to voice mail. I have it set so it’s not supposed to ring and they can’t leave a message. It’s weird because the app does recognize them as spam but is ignoring my settings.
- [R28] Verizon Call Filter Useless App and Service!!!!: I pay every month for the plus service and I still receive over 20 calls a day instead of 60 calls. I have to empty my voicemail daily, if not it will be full in 2 days. I have been with Verizon for 20 years and am thinking of switching to t-mobile. THIS is a sore issue because it’s effecting my job and personal life. Silent or not, The calls are still getting through
- [R9] Verizon Call Filter Works but crashes: The app works in the background and reports calls accurately, however if I try to open the app to make changes, it crashes immediately. So I’m unable to make adjustments for certain calls that are being mistakenly blocked. But it is blocking or routing calls to Voicemail that are spam.
- [R10] Verizon Call Filter Buggy: This app from the moment I’ve downloaded always has a problem with retrieving the name of my account so nothing ever works. To fix this I’ve had to uninstall the app over two dozen times. Reinstall the app. Log back in. Give all the permissions that they want. For it to stop working again the very next day. This app is not good. I’m not sure where all the five star and four star reviews are
- [R22] Verizon Call Filter Not great: Functionality is not great. Does not update calls. Some sections still simply do not work. It fails to log the time and date of the calls for reporting the call to the DNC list. Only allows a few allowed callers.Verizon could do better but it is getting worde.
- [R33] Verizon Call Filter Works well: Works well, however when scrolling through the “Recent” log, it locks up and it doesn’t allow to scroll up or down.
- [R18] Verizon Call Filter Too many key strokes: Using the third party reporting tool is cumbersome in that it requires too many keystrokes and I feel I’m the only one using it. It would be useful to see some stats now and then I.e. number of reporters, how many unique numbers reported and most reported numbers. There’s just NO feedback!!
- [R31] Verizon Call Filter Need to wholesale block area codes: We need the ability to wholesale block area codes. I receive close to 15 spam calls a day from the following area codes, 822, 833, 844, 855, 866, 877, and 888. This program does not give us the ability to wholesale Black area codes that we have identified as known spammers. That has rendered this Verizon Call Filter plus completely useless against those tactics.
- [R34] Verizon Call Filter 8## Calls not blocked: For nearly a year I have been getting multiple calls, recorded messages that are nearly identical, daily from a handful of area codes. These all seem to come from a single VOIP company. They are rarely, if ever, blocked by Verizon. When I use the app to report and block the numbers I see they have been reported hundreds of times as spam to Verizon. The calls are to obtai
- [R41] Verizon Call Filter Doesn’t work anymore: Use to work very well then all of a sudden doesn’t work anymore. Why is there a neighborhood limit for adding blocked numbers? The spam filter doesn’t block, so I have to manually add except it only allows up to 10 and you have to put the first six digits. Allow customers to block just from the first 3 digits and it would be amazing. So sick of spam calls leaving me voicemail
- [R7] Verizon Call Filter DOES NOT WORK: This call filter app does not work. I am paying for the premium and still get numerous spam calls a day. I also will still get calls from numbers I have already blocked in the app and it has blocked numbers that I have on my contact list. Just a waste of money.
- [R43] Verizon Call Filter Waste of money: It does literally nothing. Both the free version and the paid version. Complete trash.
- [R47] Verizon Call Filter Not worth paying: The majority of spam calls I get are spoofed numbers and this filter doesn’t or can’t do anything about those. I still get multiple calls a day from mostly variations of 800 numbers. This filter does nothing about any of those. Not worth paying for or even using on my phone, taking up memory.
- [R53] Verizon Call Filter More spam than ever: Here’s how this app works: I report calls as spam. Verizon lets them through again. I change settings to “all risk levels.” Verizon blocks calls from people in my contacts. My pets’ vet, not a 1-800 or VOIP number, is blocked. I contact support, they tell me the only solution is to email them every number I DON’T want the app to block. Apparently saving numbers to my con
- [R94] Robokiller it does not work: It is extremely buggy, i get 10 spam call per day, none blocked. But some calls from my contacts never go through. Support is non-existent, it just asks you to go the eternal loop of reinstalling the app, to no effect.
- [R99] Robokiller Works about half the time: I originally loved this app, but now it only sometimes works. Sometimes it screens my calls, sometimes it doesn’t. My settings remain the same. I’ve reached out to customer service several times about this but I always get the same stock reply telling me to uninstall and reinstall the app with no other follow up. I’ve followed all their steps to try and nothing has worke
- [R100] Robokiller Raising the price again?!?: UPDATE: reached out to the company and they have failed to respond. WHY DID I PAY $82 AND SPAM CALLS ARE STILL ROLLING THROUGH DAILY. Can someone at the company please contact me and/or fix this issue? I stuck by this app, even after the price hike from $30 to $80 because it was honestly the best. It effectively blocked unwanted calls without me even seeing them. I wa
- [R62] Robokiller Saves being bothered spam: RoboKiller is quite creative and it’s responses to spam calls and blocking unnecessary callers saving me time and effort. They know when to let something important go through even if it’s not on your contact list I am dismayed to learn that the price is going up so high, and may have to cancel because of it.
- [R64] Robokiller The price of the subscription is outrageous!: It’s so expensive they price it per week instead of per month. Their monthly service costs as much as some cell phone service plans! Totally not worth it.
- [R72] Robokiller Expensive for what it is.: It works OK yet I still don’t understand why it costs so much.
- [R76] Robokiller Business owner: This app worked ok but not worth the $139 a year . Just use your basic phone settings to block spam calls for free.
- [R67] Robokiller SMS blocking is broken: RoboKiller claims that it has a feature which blocks spam SMS messages. While this feature can be found in the app, it is completely, 100% non-functional. It does not block any SMS messages, nor does it move messages from unknown senders to the Unknown & Junk folder in the Messages app. If you are hoping to prevent SMS spam, RoboKiller is going to disappoint you.
