GoPass vs Mobile Passport Control
Mobile Passport Control is the better choice for international travelers seeking to expedite customs, despite some inconsistencies, while GoPass struggles with reliability and user-friendliness for public transit.
Mobile Passport Control (MPC) offers a generally positive experience for speeding up US entry, though its effectiveness is highly dependent on airport staffing and implementation. GoPass, a public transit app, is praised for convenience in ticket purchasing but receives significant criticism for unreliable route planning, payment issues, and inconsistent service.
Head to head
you primarily need a convenient way to purchase DART/TRE tickets and are familiar with the transit system, and are willing to manually input payment details if Apple Pay fails R5R8.
you frequently travel internationally and want a chance to expedite your entry into the US, understanding that its effectiveness depends on airport staffing and availability .
Evidence note: Both apps are free to download, so there is no free-vs-paid asymmetry. The negative reviews for both apps largely stem from functional issues and external dependencies (transit reliability for GoPass, airport staffing for Mobile Passport Control).

- [R6] GoPass Better Route Generation: Purchasing fares and tracking are simple and easy to do, but planning trips leaves a lot on the table. Allowing multiple routes to be shown at one time might help with riders optimizing their route selection with transfers. Maybe allowing users to use a more piece-wise planning function where users select routes to add to their trip would and where to pick up and get off w
- [R8] GoPass Nice and easy: This app is very fast, helpful when you need a month pass and very easy to use.
- [R11] GoPass Pass: I love this app it is very convenient
- [R15] GoPass No student passes on the app: No student passes on the app
- [R4] GoPass Apple Pay: This app does not work well with Apple Pay. Tried multiple times and wouldn’t accept the payment until I input my card information in manually.
- [R5] GoPass Quick and easy: Load a card to pay with, and this is easy peezy. But the trains need to show up on time. And customer service and safety is priority! Keep the DART at Dallas College North Lake & Irving/Las Colinas stops. Keep it safe. And thank you.
- [R9] GoPass Payment Method/Apple Pay Problem: I am no longer able to use Apple Pay or delete payment methods, very inconvenient. I can use the same card that the Apple Pay option doesn’t allow me to if I manually input it through the add a card option.
- [R1] GoPass Not reliable: told me the incorrect stop twice in a row. i even tried to wave down the driver but they did not care
- [R3] GoPass Newest Version is NOT working for my iPad.: It keeps saying Invalid App Version, even though I deleted the app & reinstalled it. Please, fix this, because I need this app & have no other way to purchase tickets.
- [R7] GoPass Ride share pickup/ drop off time terrible: Ride share is terrible! You never know how many stops/riders there are before your ride. Had to pick up 2 other riders for 20 min before I could get to my 7 min travel time destination
- [R13] GoPass Unreliable: its works to a point but even with uber and lyft agreements turned on its unreliable you don’t know when your gonna get anywhere you could get a ride and be waiting anywhere from 5 minutes to 1 hr 30 don’t count on this app if you need to be anywhere important more than likely you’ll be late
- [R12] GoPass Day pass vs 3hr: Not cool that the only option is for a $6 day pass vs hunting for a $3 3 hr pass - which I need to just get downtown.
- [R34] GoPass NOT LEGIT APP THE STEAL 💵: I had purchased 1 go pass and then they charge my card but don’t give me the ticket so I tried again and over till I gave up looked at my bank statement and they charged me over 10 times and didn’t give me one ticket . If I’m not compensated for my time wasted my money lost my by an issue because of your app I will be taking the entire company to small claims and I will
- [R53] GoPass Expensive: Glitches or automatically adds fares and it isn’t a helpful introduction to online tickets.
- [R2] GoPass TRE: The TRE conductors are the best! Freddy, Melissa, Dylan, Hunter, Devon, Clayton and Sal.. These people are professional, very nice and I wouldn’t ride without them. They valuable employees!
- [R69] Mobile Passport Control Normally very good but…: Arrived at JFK T4 last night. Did all the right things on getting off our flight from London. Hit submit but the app seemed to hang. I had a good 5 G signal so it wasn’t a connectivity issue. Eventually the app said to join the MPC queue but when we got to the desk the officer had no indication of our recent action with the app. Odd.
- [R28] GoPass The app is a hit and miss: I really depend on the app to make it to work on time and sometimes it’s good but when the bus doesn’t have a tracker, it can be misleading, especially for the #22 bus route. Sometimes they come early and they see you running but keep going. Really need a tracker on all Busses especially when the weather isn’t perfect.
- [R52] GoPass Route info is unreliable: Don’t trust it. Doesn’t load and times are off. Use google.
- [R61] Mobile Passport Control No MPC line at LAX WTF!: No MPC line at LAX WTF!
- [R70] Mobile Passport Control Great idea, poor execution: At Hartsfield-Jackson currently on a Tuesday afternoon at 2 pm and they tell me it is closed. So now I’m forced to wait in a long line after traveling 12 plus hours back to the states. What a waste of my time.
- [R75] Mobile Passport Control Misleading: Took the app based on it being available at LA Vegas Harry Reid airport. Got here and it’s not available, airport doesn’t have the system in place. Not life changing but just poor admin. Apart from that easy to set up
- [R76] Mobile Passport Control Mobile passport lane closed: The mobile passport lane was closed. What’s the point of downloading the app if you’re not going to be of use in a major airport like DFW
- [R81] Mobile Passport Control Is a good start: It would be great to be able to save a traveller and then log straight in not having to re enter passport information etc each time. Otherwise a good app.
- [R113] Mobile Passport Control App adds us each time we travel: It doesn’t seem to save data from one trip to another, each time it asks for passports again and again.
