Lyft vs Amazon Flex
Lyft is the better choice for on-demand personal transportation, offering generally reliable service despite some recent inconsistencies, while Amazon Flex is for individuals seeking flexible delivery work, though it faces significant challenges with pay and app functionality.
Lyft, a ride-sharing service, generally provides good experiences with courteous drivers and clean vehicles, though it struggles with accurate wait times, price discrepancies, and customer support. Amazon Flex, a delivery service for independent contractors, offers flexible work but is criticized for low pay, poor navigation, and difficulty securing blocks.
Head to head
Pick Lyft if you need on-demand personal transportation and value generally good driver quality and vehicle cleanliness, are comfortable with occasional app inconsistencies, and want a potentially cheaper option than alternatives R2R15.
Pick Amazon Flex if you are an independent contractor looking for a flexible side gig to earn extra income, are willing to contend with low pay rates relative to expenses, and can tolerate app navigation issues and difficulties securing work blocks .
Evidence note: Lyft's reviews are from customers, while Amazon Flex's reviews are from drivers, leading to a different perspective on 'service quality' and 'price/value'. Lyft's negative reviews often focus on service failures and app glitches, while Amazon Flex's negative reviews are primarily about driver compensation, app navigation for delivery, and the difficulty of getting work.

- [R3] Lyft The App has gotten terrible!!: I order Lyfts 3-4 times a week and have noticed it getting worse lately. When ordering it will say the driver is 10 minutes away, and after paying the drivers are closer to 25 minutes away. I just ordered one tonight at the airport at 9:48pm and the driver was 15 minutes away, so I should have been picked up about 10:03pm. Instead, I finally got picked up at 10:20
- [R7] Lyft Never tells you when they stop looking for your ride: It’ll tell you you’ll get your ride in 3 minutes, then that “it’s taking longer than expected”, then you open the app a few minutes later to find out that it hasn’t even been looking for the past 10 minutes you thought it was still searching.
- [R12] Lyft Long time user: I’ve been using Lyft for years now and have lots of trips racked up. But lately it’s been a little weird with them. Last trip I took it took me to the wrong destination so I had to rebook and set up a new ride. Today I was going to book and then checked uber rates. The rates stayed the same on Uber but when I checked Lyft again the rate went up within 1-2 min. Very strange how it’s
- [R13] Lyft app should be shut down immediately: when i requested a ride they took 20 minutes to try and find one just to tell me there were no drivers around. then i try to get my money and they still haven’t sent it back as im writing this. support is very unprofessional and takes very long to type back. this app is a cancer and i pray to god it gets shut down one day. i wish i could give 0 stars.
- [R2] Lyft Sweet ride: Courteous, friendly safe driving clean vehicle and great looking SUV 👍🏽
- [R5] Lyft Absolutely great: Helped me get my My groceries to and from the car !! I would recommend him to anyone
- [R8] Lyft Excellent: …vehicle and driver. Great experience.
- [R9] Lyft Improvement: Could definitely need some improvement with some drivers nasty attitude an not proper need to do interviews in person
- [R4] Lyft Lyft Ok with Driver Abuse: I was almost assaulted by a driver and Lyft did nothing to resolve the issue. They care about money and money alone. A disgusting company.
- [R11] Lyft Excelente: Muy rápidos y oportunos
- [R6] Lyft Temporary hold: I didn’t get my temporary hold back when I scheduled a ride . Charged twice ! Once when I scheduled and charge again when ride arrived
- [R15] Lyft Hit or miss: Lyft seems to be consistently cheaper than Uber for me (though not for everyone), but the experience is hit or miss. The initial estimated time to get a driver is not always accurate and even when it says a few more seconds, it could actually be several more minutes (or even a cancellation of the ride). Not great when you’re in a hurry.
- [R18] Lyft Needs improvement: Other than the fact that the prices change every time you open the app, there should be an option to cancel a ride with a person when we wait over 10 minutes for them to move one inch . We could find someone who is closest by then. If we cancel we get charged a fee or have to pay more for a ride after waiting for so long . That shouldn’t be the case , there should be more optio
- [R24] Lyft Inaccurate wait times: Frustrating to close the Waymo app and choose Lyft which looks quicker to arrive but then actually takes longer. Why say 2 mins away if it’s actually 11 mins?
- [R67] Amazon Flex They overuse the drivers.: Honestly, I don't feel valued or appreciated; I feel like Amazon Flex exploits and takes advantage of independent contractors, us, the Flex drivers. The rates for these blocks don't benefit us at all; we aren't making any profit. Everything has gone up in price, gas, vehicle maintenance, more miles driven, and more wear and tear on the car. Plus, our safety hangs by a thre
- [R78] Amazon Flex Need more money: Gas has gone up but not the rates
- [R82] Amazon Flex 4 year driver: I’ve been with Amazon Flex in Oklahoma City Atmos since the beginning and I think it’s bad Buisness now because they only give 10 and $11 shifts in the daytime all of the 60 and $80 $100 shifts are three and 4 o’clock in the morning. I understand they gave customers the option to get their stuff delivered that late in the morning, but it’s just messed up how it took away from the da
- [R93] Amazon Flex El pago por millas: demasiadas millas y pago muy reducido
- [R19] Lyft Theft.: I paid 15.15 for a ride I needed to go to a birthday party and Lyft not a drive canceled my ride (idk if it’s because they didn’t want me to get the ride for less) but it still charged my card and now I need to pay another 20 on top of what I paid for the other ride. That was cancelled. I spoke to support and they were useless. Definitely will NEVER USE LYFT AGAIN.
- [R28] Lyft No way to talk to anyone: It’s really frustrating that you can’t get a live person. I don’t have the app anymore, don’t want to redownload it, and now got 2 emails re rides I didn’t take. Don’t understand why this multi million dollar company can’t provide an actual customer service number, it has to be through a submitted request on the site. Don’t even have an email to reach out to.
