MyTSA vs CLEAR
MyTSA is a free, useful tool for general airport information, while CLEAR offers a paid service for expedited security, but its value is inconsistent.
MyTSA provides general airport information and estimated wait times for free, though users frequently report inaccuracies. CLEAR offers a paid service for faster security lines, but its app setup can be frustrating and the actual time savings are inconsistent.
Head to head
You want a free app for general airport information, such as what items are allowed through security and basic airport maps R2. You are willing to use the wait time estimates as a rough guide, understanding they may not be real-time or accurate R12.
You frequently travel through airports where CLEAR consistently provides significant time savings, and you are comfortable with a paid subscription R91. You prefer to enroll and manage your membership through an app, despite potential setup difficulties .
Evidence note: The evidence for MyTSA's support is thin, as users primarily discuss app functionality rather than direct support interactions. For CLEAR, while many users praise in-person airport support, online and phone support are frequently criticized.

- [R2] MyTSA My favorite app as a frequent flyer: The app is very accessible and works very well on my device. I has just re-downloaded it because it is such an amazing app. The AI has issues but besides that it is a pretty amazing app when I’m not sure something can get through the TSA I will check the app. I have to fly to school ever week so this gets handy when my teachers or AIDS give me something that I
- [R5] MyTSA Needs: Report Airport Security concern: Excellent app, easy to use with useful airport info. Just needs a button to “Report a Security Concern” quickly and discreetly like DEN, DFW and SEA have in their See Say Airport apps. Let’s all keep travel safe.
- [R11] MyTSA A good UI design: Finally! More apps and websites need to do this. It really helps your company out-an attractive design can do nothing but draw in more users.
- [R14] MyTSA I wish MyTSA would include COVID notification: myTSA will be great for travelers if we get notification if someone got positive! This will be a great traveling tool! The new design is sick! Kudos to that!
- [R15] MyTSA I’m not a tester, but it seems there are some bugs in the app: Over all, I would recommend the app. Currently there are some bugs that do need addressed. Example: if you go to the tab for ask TSA on the iPad, if you click on the tsa website. The app crashes. On a cellphone it goes to the website. That is just one example. To me not being able to access what you need could be a problem. That is w
- [R4] MyTSA Not live reports: Maybe this used to work but it does not reflect accurate live times if you compare to airport websites which report actual live times. This is useless and just gives estimates based on history. And can be amazingly inaccurate
- [R7] MyTSA Horrible!: Wish I could rate this a zero. First of all, it says the wait times at all JFK terminals is the same. How can all 4 terminals have the same wait time! And the max wait time it displays is “greater than 60 minutes.” This could be 61 minutes or it could be 200 minutes…. No way to tell.
- [R9] MyTSA Wait time accuracy is critical for this app: Need to focus on improving accuracy even if it is done for just 10 airports before making it available to all US airports. Same tech that is used for Google maps traffic can be used because nearly 100% people are carrying cell phones that are tracking locations / wait times
- [R10] MyTSA WRONG: Said wait time was 60 minutes, there was no wait, it took longer to work thru the back and forth turns to get to security.
- [R24] MyTSA Where is crowd sourced info?: The app claims to display a “dashboard” screen for the airport my phone geolocates to, but I never see the dashboard.
- [R39] MyTSA Improvement: Display the last reported wait time that was submitted by a app users. This will give the report and the user a way to evaluate the data.
- [R77] CLEAR clear signup: very easy , the folks at the detroit airport were very helpful and nice
- [R12] MyTSA Not Real Time Info: The app is a great idea. I figured I can see how good or bad the wait at the security lines is. However, after using it I determined it is just giving you the collective average wait time for that time on that day - not what is actually happening. The average wait time for 3:00 on a Monday based on months or years of data. It’s still useful but not nearly as much as I hoped.
- [R13] MyTSA Actually worthless: Has no relationship to reality. Don’t bother downloading as you can’t trust it.
- [R69] CLEAR Austin 👎🏼: It’s great when it works. And then there’s days like today where the regular line is literally faster than the one we’re paying for. I think about a third of the time it’s not worth it.
- [R76] CLEAR Could be great but not: Chronically understaffed locations. Their employees are poorly managed and are uncaring. Support is abysmal. Don’t waste your money.
- [R91] CLEAR No Long Lines!: We get to an airport and we see long lines to get through security. With CLEAR, we hardly break stride! It has never taken more than 1-2 minutes. Really.
- [R94] CLEAR You can spend more time than in normal line: I’ve joined recently, but it’s a game of luck. Sometime you can spent more time in clear line than in normal. I’ve spent 40 minutes in Austin in clear line while my friend passed normal one in 20. Is it really worth the money?
- [R61] CLEAR Clear… ly poor: Sign up and installation of the app is ok, but cannot get past the selfie. I have tried everything - natural light, different brightnesses, indoor light, different backgrounds, but cannot get the app to accept a selfie, so cannot upload my ID. Absolutely terrible. iPhone 16 pro max, iOS 26.6
- [R72] CLEAR Glare: Because of the new passport’s construction with a plastic laminate over the photo, it is extremely difficult to avoid glare. Adjust your criteria please
- [R73] CLEAR Verification issues: Extremely poor the execution and verification provided a six false negative before it finally verified my details. Unacceptable.
- [R82] CLEAR HORRIBLE online signup proceeds: 1) App instructions are very unclear, was told to look for the vault tab, does not exist, then told click on passport. After five minutes of searching around this website, found ad passport picture. After three attempts, had finally accepted a picture. 2) now want to add my Mail partner as a family member. App is unclear as to why he cannot be added to my accou
