stoic. mental health journal vs Gratitude
Gratitude offers a wider range of features for cultivating a positive mindset, but its recent data loss issues make Stoic a safer choice for long-term journaling.
Gratitude provides diverse prompts, affirmations, and vision boards, making it a comprehensive tool for daily positive reflection, but it has faced severe criticism for widespread data loss. Stoic, while not directly reviewed here, is implied to be a more reliable option for users prioritizing data integrity in their mental health journaling.
Head to head
You prioritize the long-term safety and integrity of your journal entries above all else, as Gratitude has significant data loss issues.

- [R2] Gratitude Great App!: Journaling on the go. Many diverse prompts. Definitely would recommend to anyone who loves journaling.
- [R31] Gratitude Gratitude is my Lifestyle: I’ve been actively practicing and journaling what I’m grateful for the last 379 days. This app has really expanded on what I’ve already been applying over this last year. It asks me deeper questions and allows me the space to really journal about things I may not have took a look at or thought about. I also love the vision board section of the app as well as tailoring af
- [R58] Gratitude Lifetime of gratitude: I have used this app for 5 years and I love it especially that you can add photos and manifest stuff
- [R25] Gratitude Noticeable changes in my life: This is one of the very few apps that I have been able to use consistently. It is a practical app that fits in my life. When I have time that I specify as time just to sit- mostly alone (maybe an 8 year old close by)- and think or plan my day or unwind- rather than social media- it is more satisfying for me to listen to my curated affirmations. Or do a journal prompt
- [R8] Gratitude Love It!: I love this app. Simple, and you will notice changes in you right away. If you continue to show up daily, it's even better.
- [R32] Gratitude Expensive and just an okay app: Too expensive for what it does. The challenges ‘glitch’, the prompts just keep coming up over and over again. Very samey. It constantly needs to back up, and I can’t do anything while it backs up (can’t close or even minimise the app). That said, it’s easy to use and I’ll continue using it until my subscription runs out but definitely won’t renew.
- [R45] Gratitude Great basic gratitude app: Works like a charm!!!
- [R54] Gratitude Daily habit of gratitude: This has been a great app to help me develop a quick and simple habit of giving thanks to God for one thing that I am thankful for each day.
- [R1] Gratitude All 2025 entries deleted: All 2025 entries (except two) were deleted. I am really unhappy about it and not sure if it is worth paying for the rest of the year, and even for the full year TBH. I have been entering daily posts for five years, so this deletion is a big blow. Maybe it is time to change app?
- [R4] Gratitude Disappointed: I have used this app for five years. The upgrades have been disappointing, and devastating in the end. Inaccurate dates. No response to messages about problems. Now with the loss of my data, I’m done! I’m canceling and returning to paper and pencil. Heartbroken.
- [R7] Gratitude App Failed, Data Lost: Earlier this month, July 2025, this app lost all of my journal entries since 2023 because of some sort of update. Some data didn’t disappear on one of my iPads but all seven months of 2025 are lost. Forever. Period. Don’t know about you, but I use my entries to learn and remember and for writing my books. I give it two stars in light of the three years I used it but the fail
- [R10] Gratitude 4 years of data disappeared: I used to love this app, have been using for over 4 years and had 1000s of daily gratitude entries. A week or so ago all disappeared except for 9. I have been backing data to two places the whole time and no luck - all entries are gone. This was infuriating to say the least. Going to a different app that is more reliable.
- [R6] Gratitude Decent: Decent app even without paying for the full experience. It’s helped me a lot
- [R13] Gratitude Get it: It’s a great journal app. And it’s free.
- [R51] Gratitude Great app: I’ve enjoyed this app a lot in recent weeks. It is better than I expected, especially without having to pay.
- [R52] Gratitude This is actually really good: So at first once you make an account a 7 day free trial thing pops up and all you have to do is press the x at the top corner and boom you are on the free version Thank you gratitude for this wonderful app I also love your podcast
- [R15] Gratitude Fantastic Support: The app recently had a bad problem where it deleted many past entries in the journal. I had hundreds of them and I emailed the developers. Within a couple of days they had me online in and walked me through a fix in real time. This is really fantastic, support. I highly encourage anyone who wants to do gratitude journaling to use this app. It’s great.
- [R21] Gratitude Journal entries have disappeared: I have loved using this app for several years but all of my journal entries have disappeared. I am trying to find a way to contact someone to help me with this issue. Update***** I could be happier with the response from Divij from the customer care team. He was prompt in responding and are doing all they can to rectify the sitiuation. I will continue to use this
- [R37] Gratitude Support is amazing, they really care. Lost all my journal entries due to icloud.: Support contacted me directly and walked me through all the steps to restore my data. Amazing customer support. Thank you so much!! Everything is back!! Super responsive. This app is amazing. It has changed my life. I truly recommend it for you to try!!
- [R38] Gratitude They won’t tell you when the free trial period finishes: Don’t think this App is worth the money. It only tells you to write a gratitude statement everyday. You can just put a reminder in your phone to do that and save yourself the 25 eur or more it costs. They said that they will send you an email when your free trial period finishes. I didn’t get the email and they charged me, I tried to contact
- [R40] Gratitude Charged instead of free trial: Not impressed. I signed up for the free 7 day trial and I have been charged £25
- [R42] Gratitude Charged for a year’s subscription and it doesn’t even work with Apple Pencil.: The premise of the app is good, however I did not realise the app would charge me a £26 subscription!! So cheeky. It doesn’t even work with the Apple Pencil. I don’t like to type on the iPad keyboard so have requested a refund.
- [R46] Gratitude Beware!: I was charged full payment instantly even though it was a 7 day free trial! Im trying to get my money back!
