Microsoft To Do vs Microsoft Outlook
Microsoft To Do is the better choice for dedicated task management, despite recent stability issues, while Microsoft Outlook is not directly comparable as it's an email client with integrated task features.
Microsoft To Do excels as a dedicated task management app, praised for its ease of use and organizational features, though recent reviews highlight significant crashing and syncing problems. Microsoft Outlook, while highly rated, is primarily an email client with task integration, making a direct feature-for-feature comparison difficult based solely on these reviews.
Head to head
You need a dedicated, straightforward task management app for personal or collaborative use, especially if you are already in the Microsoft ecosystem and can tolerate occasional syncing or crashing issues R2R8R23R29.
You are primarily looking for an email client and calendar, and any task management features are secondary or integrated within that primary function. (Note: The provided reviews do not offer enough detail to recommend Outlook specifically for task management.)
Evidence note: The reviews provided are heavily skewed towards Microsoft To Do, with very few details about Microsoft Outlook's task management capabilities. Therefore, the comparison is largely one-sided, focusing on To Do's strengths and weaknesses. The lifetime ratings are high for both, but recent To Do reviews indicate a decline in reliability.

- [R2] Microsoft To Do To do: I love it cause it’s easy to use and very useful. Plus I love Microsoft
- [R8] Microsoft To Do Appreciation: Excellent app, it help me to plan and prioritize my work and tasks during the day in the efficient way.
- [R9] Microsoft To Do Can’t make suggestions: It would be nice to have a way to make suggestions. I clicked on the link in the app, but it won’t sign me in with the code they emailed me. So frustrating. The app really needs a way to have a list within a list. For example, for my “tv shows to watch” list, letting me sort it into “shows to watch alone, “shows to watch with spouse,” “movies for the weekend,” etc. And for
- [R12] Microsoft To Do Categories: Need to be able to select a category for each task on mobile version
- [R3] Microsoft To Do Good app except for accidental taps: The To Do app is good but an accidental tap is it’s Achilles heel. Tap something by mistake and it’s difficult to know what was tapped. I don’t see anyway to know.
- [R5] Microsoft To Do Life Changing: This is my all time favorite app. It’s changed my life
- [R1] Microsoft To Do Why is it crashing?: Suddenly stopped working on iphone 16 Pro…
- [R4] Microsoft To Do Syncing: Cannot get syncing to work on this app only. All other apps my 3 devices sync with no problem. Being 70+ easier to type on iPad or Mac. But use my iPhone when using when away from house. Constantly have to delete and reinstall app on iPhone. Have started moving some of my lists to other apps.
- [R7] Microsoft To Do Crashing: Keeps crashing on both my iPhone and iPad. Tried many time contacting Microsoft but there was no response. Too bad
- [R11] Microsoft To Do Love the app, but the widgets dont work with the clear or tinted themes of ios: Thats about it. Been using it for years and its really good at syncing stuff no matter which device I am on
- [R29] Microsoft To Do Organizational Bliss: Love the way To Do syncs with Outlook and the Outlook calendar to simplify my workflow. I can manage my meetings, action items, and assigned tasks from MS Planner all in one place!
- [R34] Microsoft To Do IOS Issues: I love To Do and its functions, i love that I can access my lists from all of my work and personal devices. However, I use my iPad Mini as a work hub during the day for work, and the WIDGETS on iOS DO NOT WORK. They are a blank white space, previews do not even load. This is a huge issue for my productivity flow. Please fix!
- [R35] Microsoft To Do It works !: Used for years. Just right for outlook user. Thanks !
- [R17] Microsoft To Do Almost great: I still haven’t found the perfect free (or reasonable ) GTD priorities to do list, but do enjoy this tool. Need to have more collaborations to make it optimally useful
- [R44] Microsoft To Do Nice app maybe: I down graded the review because it’s really annoying to try and move sub-tasks around and they end up as new tasks on the starting page. This is a nice little app for keeping a quick list of things to do during the day or week. I don’t need anything special, but just something that I can use to jot down in a hurry items as the come to mind. It also integrates well with my outlook
- [R15] Microsoft To Do 3 stars: It crashes on me when I try to start a new list. And I have lost tasks when moving to a new list. Poof. Just gone. So now I have to screenshot before moving just in case. Otherwise it’s great!
- [R23] Microsoft To Do So great: I absolutely love this app. My favorite part is that I can be at the store, and my wife can add thing onto the list from home as she cooks.
- [R33] Microsoft To Do Awesome when it works: I use this list for years. Me and my husband would share it for grocery list or packing list. I shared it with other family member members when we were traveling together and it’s been awesome. The problem is over the last six months to a year. It’s not updating between people anymore. It constantly signing us out or not sinking properly. It’s become unusable at this point
