Microsoft To Do vs Microsoft Word
Microsoft To Do is the better choice for task management and list organization, despite its recent stability and syncing issues, as Microsoft Word is a word processor and not designed for this purpose.
Microsoft To Do is a dedicated task management app that helps users organize their daily tasks and lists, with many finding it life-changing for productivity. Microsoft Word, while a highly-rated app, is a word processor and not suitable for managing to-do lists or tasks.
Head to head
you need a dedicated app to organize your daily tasks, create multiple lists, and manage your workflow, especially if you use Outlook or MS Planner R8R20R29.
you need a robust word processing application for creating, editing, and viewing documents.
Evidence note: The comparison is heavily skewed as Microsoft Word is a word processor and not a task management app. Therefore, its 'performance' in task management features is non-existent. The reviews for Microsoft To Do, while generally positive for its core function, highlight significant recent issues with stability and syncing, which are common complaints for free-tier apps relying on cloud services.

- [R8] Microsoft To Do Appreciation: Excellent app, it help me to plan and prioritize my work and tasks during the day in the efficient way.
- [R9] Microsoft To Do Can’t make suggestions: It would be nice to have a way to make suggestions. I clicked on the link in the app, but it won’t sign me in with the code they emailed me. So frustrating. The app really needs a way to have a list within a list. For example, for my “tv shows to watch” list, letting me sort it into “shows to watch alone, “shows to watch with spouse,” “movies for the weekend,” etc. And for
- [R12] Microsoft To Do Categories: Need to be able to select a category for each task on mobile version
- [R20] Microsoft To Do Download it!!: Use it daily to stay on track this is by far my most opened productivity app!! 10/10 n I don’t write reviews EVER
- [R2] Microsoft To Do To do: I love it cause it’s easy to use and very useful. Plus I love Microsoft
- [R3] Microsoft To Do Good app except for accidental taps: The To Do app is good but an accidental tap is it’s Achilles heel. Tap something by mistake and it’s difficult to know what was tapped. I don’t see anyway to know.
- [R5] Microsoft To Do Life Changing: This is my all time favorite app. It’s changed my life
- [R14] Microsoft To Do Won’t allow to rearrange alphabetically: This APP helps me to organize different categories. Under each category I add lists. One start out is if I want to rearrange the categories by alphabetical order, it won’t move but opens.
- [R1] Microsoft To Do Why is it crashing?: Suddenly stopped working on iphone 16 Pro…
- [R4] Microsoft To Do Syncing: Cannot get syncing to work on this app only. All other apps my 3 devices sync with no problem. Being 70+ easier to type on iPad or Mac. But use my iPhone when using when away from house. Constantly have to delete and reinstall app on iPhone. Have started moving some of my lists to other apps.
- [R6] Microsoft To Do Encrappification has arrived: The whole point of having an app and not using the web is so I don’t have to sign in every time. Here, I had to 2FA twice in a row, plus dismiss an annoying passkey nag. Then the login pop-up kept coming back up. I only was able to fix after a force-close. You literally have one job: don’t make the app worse.
- [R7] Microsoft To Do Crashing: Keeps crashing on both my iPhone and iPad. Tried many time contacting Microsoft but there was no response. Too bad
- [R11] Microsoft To Do Love the app, but the widgets dont work with the clear or tinted themes of ios: Thats about it. Been using it for years and its really good at syncing stuff no matter which device I am on
- [R29] Microsoft To Do Organizational Bliss: Love the way To Do syncs with Outlook and the Outlook calendar to simplify my workflow. I can manage my meetings, action items, and assigned tasks from MS Planner all in one place!
- [R34] Microsoft To Do IOS Issues: I love To Do and its functions, i love that I can access my lists from all of my work and personal devices. However, I use my iPad Mini as a work hub during the day for work, and the WIDGETS on iOS DO NOT WORK. They are a blank white space, previews do not even load. This is a huge issue for my productivity flow. Please fix!
- [R35] Microsoft To Do It works !: Used for years. Just right for outlook user. Thanks !
- [R16] Microsoft To Do Sync issues never end: Unfortunately, MS apps - primarily To Do and OneNote, have had sync issues on/off for 5+ years. They fix the issues for a while and then they come back. At work, home, and on Windows and iOS/Mac. Nice idea, just okay GUI, but horrible execution. BLUF: It’s not reliable. Time to replace.
- [R44] Microsoft To Do Nice app maybe: I down graded the review because it’s really annoying to try and move sub-tasks around and they end up as new tasks on the starting page. This is a nice little app for keeping a quick list of things to do during the day or week. I don’t need anything special, but just something that I can use to jot down in a hurry items as the come to mind. It also integrates well with my outlook
