Peloton
Peloton is worth paying for if you are seeking a comprehensive fitness platform with a wide variety of classes and instructors, especially if you already own or plan to purchase Peloton equipment, but be aware of recent app stability and feature issues.
Peloton offers a vast array of high-quality workouts, instructors, and a strong community, making it a life-changing fitness tool for many users R7R11R14. While the app provides extensive content for a monthly fee, some users report persistent bugs with preloading classes, app crashes, and issues with Apple Watch integration, which detract from the overall value R1R3R32R33.
Free vs paid
The Peloton app itself is free to download, but access to its extensive content, including classes, instructors, and tracking features, requires a paid subscription R10R11R28. Users praise the variety of workouts, instructors, and the ability to track progress and access meditations and stretching routines as part of the paid package R23R28. There are no mentions of a free content tier in the reviews, suggesting the app primarily functions as a gateway to a paid subscription.

- The app's monthly price point is considered a bit high by some users.R29
- A user was disappointed that a promotion for a t-shirt for their 'century ride' was removed without notification, after subscribing for a monthly fee.R31

It is worth paying for Peloton if you are looking for a comprehensive fitness solution with a wide variety of classes, instructors, and disciplines, including cycling, running, strength, yoga, meditation, and stretching R17R23R28. It is also highly recommended for those who own Peloton equipment or use a non-Peloton bike, as the app provides engaging classes that make workouts enjoyable and effective R10R47. The subscription is also valuable for individuals who appreciate a sense of community and direct engagement with coaches R7R17.
You should skip paying for Peloton if you are easily distracted by instructors shouting out accomplishments or prefer a quieter workout experience R5R16. It may also not be worth it if you rely heavily on features like preloading classes for outdoor workouts or seamless Apple Watch integration, as these have been reported as buggy or removed R1R3R32R33. Furthermore, if you are looking for a cheaper fitness app and are sensitive to the reported price point, or if you prefer to create custom workouts, this app might not be the best fit R23R29.
Evidence note: The reviews are largely positive regarding the content and effectiveness of the Peloton app, with a significant number of 5-star ratings. However, a notable cluster of recent 1-3 star reviews highlights persistent technical bugs, particularly with preloading classes, app stability, and Apple Watch integration, which are critical for user experience. The pricing details are mostly inferred from user complaints about the cost and double-charging, with specific price points only mentioned in one review R20.

- [R1] Please fix pre load: Please fix pre load. Hasn’t been working for 2 months. Very crazy for such an expensive product.
- [R3] Can’t preload classes: Due to a bug the preload class feature hasn’t worked for 2 months! I would give the app a 5 star rating but sadly this is a dealbreaker issue for me. Please fix it!
- [R32] Preloaded NEVER works: Preloaded outdoor runs NEVER work for me. You would think downloading the run would streamline things. I get dressed, all ready, head out the door for my run and nothing…so frustrating. Fix it!!! This isn’t a free app, I’m paying monthly for something that doesn’t work for me.
- [R20] Double charging: Just found out that Peloton has been double charging me for the bike membership for 2 years; $55/month and the app $12.99/month. The app is suppose to be included. Can the developer contact me? No way to find it online.
- [R29] Good App: The peloton app is a great fitness app, although the price point per month is a bit high. The instructors are all very good and focus on health/wellbeing and enjoyment of movement rather than just “burn calories” which is wonderful to see. I wish the Apple Watch would connect with the iPad app as well as the phone one so it could continue to record workouts that way, but other than that
- [R31] Promotion: Really disappointed for my century ride, never told us they removed the promotion of the t-shirt. I subscribed on Jan 2021 and remove in August 2021.
- [R9] Love this app: Great variety! Even greater instructors! I recommend this app to everyone!
- [R17] Thank you: Thank you for great trainers like Ben A who lead and challenge and create a sense of community even though we’re not in person. I appreciate the variety of classes within a variety of disciplines (cycle, stretching, strength, yoga - haven’t used the running yet) and some great DJ work on the tunes!
- [R23] Love it, but…: I love the app, the workouts, the variety of instructors, the varying lengths of workouts, that I can track my walks and outdoor bike rides, that meditations and stretching routines are a part of the package, the music, and the way all of my completed workouts are aggregated in one list.……………………… BUT, I’m doing a calisthenics program in tandem with my peloton workouts, using pull-u
- [R28] Making changes for the better: I love this app. There is something for everyone. Even if you don’t have the bike or the tread. You can use the coaches to do hundreds of other things. I’ve been using this for a month. And I can already see improvements! Thank you Peloton!!
- [R7] BEST.APP.EVER: You can’t beat what Peloton offers!!!! I’ve been a user for over 4 years. EVERY.SINGLE.DAY. There is something, even on rest days. You aren’t paying for an app, you are receiving one-to-one elite coaching, you are getting community and you actually get support on questions from coaches either directly or a response during classes to commonly asked questions, so you get so sooooo muc
- [R11] It’s not a Fad, it’s a Must!: I’ve been into pretty intense long term fitness over the past 20 years. I have been a Peloton subscriber first with the app and then with a tread for almost 2 years now. It’s my main mode for working out now. Not only is it efficient - I can do it anywhere (home, in a gym or travelling) but it’s super cost effective! I’d be lost without it now!
- [R14] Amazing App! Life changer: Love this amazing app. It changes my life. I meditate throughout the day when I have a chance. The filters are the best part
- [R22] Life changing: This app got me back on track with my training and fitness routine. Can’t be more thankful and happy to have discovered Peloton!
- [R2] Anywhere and everywhere: No excuses now, I make time for myself with the Peloton app wherever I travel, and can have different workouts at a time that’s good for me.
- [R10] Peloton “hack”: Full disclosure, I am riding a cheap Amazon bike and not a Peloton but so far (after a week) I love the app. So many class options and different teachers. I typically pick based on the music theme and it really helps me enjoy the ride. I would absolutely recommend.
- [R12] Fantastic at home self care: This is exactly what I needed when I was looking to improve my fitness within the comforts of my own home. Thank you Peloton!
- [R18] Background workout bug: Love this app but encountered an annoying issue where, when I start my 2nd class, the previous class will continue playing in the background. Usually this is just the stretching part at the end of the workout that plays over my 2nd workout, so it eventually ends, but it’s still super annoying. Other than that 5/5 stars. Plz fix!
- [R36] Amazing content: Great app. Try it in your local gym
- [R47] Great investment: I invested in the app at the beginning of the pandemic when gyms were closed. I knew I had to keep up with my fitness otherwise I would go crazy! It truly has been a life saver for me. I invested in a top notch spin bike many years ago thankfully so the app serves me right now. Once my bike dies I may invest in the Peleton bike. Thank you Peloton.
- [R33] No support for Apple Watch: I am an app user with my own equipment. I’ve been using the app for 1.5 years and recently they have removed the Apple Watch support. Nothing is more disappointing than this. Some of us don’t have the money for the bike or tread but they’re removing our ability to do the classes and track our progress. Very disappointing Peloton!
- [R45] Great app: Love the app and the workouts. Only complaint is when you use the watch app, the calorie burn shows your actual personal calorie burn, but then defaults to the generic calorie burn. I personally usually burn more by adding in so I won’t use the peloton watch app as it takes away from my actual workout in my exercise recording. If that was fixed, I would use it daily!
- [R49] No support for Apple Watch suks: I got an iPad to use the Peloton app and Apple Watch at gym but was disappointed to see you can’t read heart rate on app with Apple Watch, only on iPhone app. Not sure if that’s Pelotons end or Apple……….
- [R50] Latest iWatch update disappointing: I ran outdoors yesterday and was extremely disappointed to see that features I loved on the iWatch were removed like: - the ability to pause/resume the workout (useful when waiting at traffic signals) - the ability to see the elapsed time of the workout - automatically starting the app when a workout is started (it now asks every time if I want to use my iWatch)
- [R5] Pretty good: The app itself is really great. They do swear a lot and have explicit music. I am on my trial of peloton and though I think some of the workouts are really great, it’s for a very specific type of person who can workout with someone yelling in their ear. I don’t really like when they shout out 500 peoples accomplishments while I am working hard and concentrating on perfecting a move. A
- [R16] Annoying: I enjoyed the outdoor audio workouts but the indoor workouts are so annoying. The instructors constantly stop, they look down at their little screen and shout out call outs to online members almost the entire class. It’s very distracting. You need to always be paying close attention, there’s no timer up on workout moves so it can get confusing when they stop. Overall it just seems really
