Natural Cycles Fertility App
Natural Cycles is a highly-rated fertility tracking app that many users find effective for birth control and conception, but it faces significant criticism for its high price, aggressive auto-renewal policies, and various technical glitches.
Natural Cycles is a popular fertility app, praised by many for its accuracy in tracking cycles and helping with natural family planning. However, its high subscription cost, non-refundable auto-renewals, and frequent app bugs are major drawbacks for a significant portion of users.
Free vs paid
The app is not free; users must purchase a subscription to access its features R2R32R55. There is a trial period, but users report it's often less than advertised and requires cancellation 24 hours prior to avoid charges . The paid subscription, which costs around $21.99 monthly or $149.99 annually, provides cycle tracking, fertility insights, and educational content R2R59. Some annual subscriptions previously included a free basal thermometer, but users now report issues receiving it or being charged extra R13R523R666R721.
Value complaints
- The app is considered very expensive, with annual subscriptions costing around $149.99, and some users note recent price hikes.R2R5R16R59
- Many users report predatory and shady auto-renewal policies, with charges occurring without clear notification or easy cancellation, and a strict no-refund policy even for unused periods.R1R4R8R9
- Some users feel the app offers little additional value beyond what free apps or devices like the Oura Ring provide, especially given the high cost.R2R50R87R119
- There are complaints about not being able to use the app while on other birth control methods or during breastfeeding, despite paying for a subscription.R2R22R86
- Users report issues with receiving the promised free thermometer with an annual subscription, leading to delayed app usage or additional costs.R13R523R666R721
- The app is not free, which frustrates users who spend time signing up only to discover it's a paid service.R32R55
Where it delivers
- Many users find the app highly effective and accurate for natural birth control and family planning, helping them understand their bodies better and avoid hormonal methods.R7R12R15R17
- The app is praised for its ability to help users get pregnant by accurately tracking ovulation and providing insights into their cycle.R36R62R79
- Integration with Oura Ring is a significant benefit for many, making temperature tracking easier and more consistent.R28R31R39R42
- Users appreciate the educational content and the empowerment gained from understanding their bodies and cycles better.R10R12R15R19
- Customer service is occasionally praised for being responsive and helpful.R25
It is worth paying for if you are seeking a non-hormonal birth control method and are diligent about daily temperature tracking, especially with an Oura Ring, and are comfortable with the high annual cost and strict refund policy R7R30R31R42. It is also valuable for those actively trying to conceive who want detailed cycle insights and temperature pattern analysis R36R62R79.
You should skip Natural Cycles if you are on hormonal birth control, as the app is not compatible R2R22. It's also not recommended for those with irregular cycles or fertility challenges, as it may not predict accurately . If you work night shifts, the app may not record temperatures accurately . Users who are sensitive to high subscription costs, strict auto-renewal policies, and lack of refunds should avoid it R1R4R8R9. If you already have an Oura Ring and find its native tracking sufficient, you may not find additional value to justify the cost R2R50R87.
Evidence note: Reviews show a strong dichotomy, with many users loving the app's core functionality and accuracy, while an equally vocal group criticizes its pricing, subscription practices, and technical issues. Recent reviews, while still positive overall, highlight growing concerns about price increases and bugs.

- [R2] Cannot use with other birth controls: When signing up for a membership, NOWHERE does it say you cannot use cycle tracking if using another form of hormonal birth control. Its also ridiculously expensive. $21 a month to track data you’re already getting from a $500 oura ring? No.
- [R5] App does not update: App doesn’t update when you switch modes. For example- I wanted to switch from birth control to follow pregnancy in the settings. I have tried multiple times, made sure the app was updated, and attempted trouble shooting. Great app otherwise but, frustrating when it is such an expensive app and then I can’t use it in the setting that I need.
- [R16] Bring back cycle day on calendar: Please update to be able to clearly see cycle day when clicking on future dates on the calendar like we used to see. The 2 stars is because recent updates to the app have made it LESS user friendly. More buttons to do the same thing we used to do with fewer buttons. Also the yearly subscription price is astronomical- I have been using this app for almost 5 years
- [R59] Too expensive now: I’ve been using this app for YEARS and fell in love with it. Now it’s wayy too expensive and I refuse to go from paying the $84/year to a WHOPPING $139 I believe?! So so sad to leave this app behind but something like this should be affordable or at least have affordable options. Was nice while it lasted!
- [R1] BEWARE- NO REFUNDS: They claimed they sent an email regarding auto renewal, but it was never received. The day it renewed I reached out to them in the AM and they said their policy is to not do refunds. I clearly have not used the year of the product. Seems very suspect that they would not refund and seems to speak to their product.
- [R4] Shady and predatory subscription policies.: Tried this app for a month and didn’t love it and switched to a different one. Didn’t realize the subscription was still auto-renewing and it renewed for a full year with no way to get a refund. Most apps nowadays offer a grace period to refund when you didn’t actually mean to renew. Not offering this is shady, surely everyone that works at this company
- [R8] Deceptive Renewal Practices: They send out an email but it’s a very generic subject line (Your NC Journey) and easily missed. Any subscription renewal reminder should be obvious. No refunds. I’ve had better data with the Oura so this is getting canceled now.
- [R9] Insincere customer service: Decent insights, but their auto-renew policy is ridiculous. They sent a “reminder” email 30 days prior titled “Your NC Journey”… with no reference to any account alert. Pretty ridiculous. Trying to secure a refund as I no longer need the product.
- [R50] Not worth it if you have an oura ring: I’ve had my oura ring for almost a year now and have never had any complaints about the cycle tracking. It gets to be really accurate when you’ve had your oura ring for a while. I figured I’d try the Natural Cycles app because it seemed like it was going to give me better cycle insights than my oura ring. I got the app and if anything it seems to be less accu
- [R87] Copy and Paste: The monthly price is way too high for the app to just copy and paste the data from the oura ring. I don’t feel like I’m getting any new information. The rest of the app feels like a magazine with articles and quizzes, which also can all be found outside of the app. I’m glad it works for others, but for anyone that has a regular cycle this isn’t what you need.
- [R119] Is good but too pricy: The app offers good stuff but other apps do as well, unfortunately is the only e one that works with Oura, but iswayyyy too expensive for what’s offered
- [R22] Scammy: I bought a subscription hoping to use it after getting off my current birth control. What the app didn’t tell before it prompted me to buy a subscription (I couldn’t go any further into the app without one) is that 1. I cannot use it while still having an IUD (I was trying to get ahead of tracking the cycle so I knew where I was at when it was removed). And 2. My Apple Watch apparently isn
- [R86] Does not work for breastfeeding women: I went through all the questions and put that I was breastfeeding. I paid the subscription for just 1 month luckily because it doesn’t tell you until after that all days are red until I’m done breastfeeding.
- [R13] Lies: I just wrote an entire review about how garbage this company is and how misleading everything is but Apple decided to delete the whole thing so I’ll try to make it shorter this time. They suck. At first their wearable band was free with the subscription then now that I’ve already paid for the subscription it’s $100and apparently the Garmin that I purchased for this purpose is not compatible
- [R523] Good but they take advantage: The system seems to be working well and I like that, but there’s been multiple issues where I try to get help and nothing. 1) my watch came in almost a month after the subscription started. They haven’t responded as to whether I’ve paid full rate for this month. It wouldn’t make sense as the subscription is useless without the watch. 2) I got a random charge from UPS
- [R666] One month for nothing: I think I am going to like using this app, however when you subscribe it can take a while before receiving the thermometer. In my case it took a little more than an month, which means I paid for 4 months but i will actually get 3 months. This is a little frustrating. You should be able to wait until you receive the thermometer. The app also seems to have several bugs.
- [R721] Don’t bother with annual membership: The incentive to purchase the annual membership is a free basal thermometer, so I figured why not. I signed up 2 months ago and still have not received the thermometer even though I contacted support and they said they would send another. Unfortunately that means I have not been able to use the app correctly for the entire first two months of my subscription. I
- [R32] Super expensive: There is no free version. Only a $150 a year version. No thanks.
- [R55] wasted my time signing up: was hoping the app would be free, spent like 10 mins signing up just to see they charge you and there’s no free option. just to track your cycle is insane… i hope in the future they become transparent at the beginning about it costing money so others don’t end up wasting their time too… also unfortunate seeing the amount of reviews saying they make it difficult to get of
- [R7] Great hormonal BC alternative!: I got off hormonal BC after a bad experience and have been refreshed by natural cycles! It’s worked great for BC and has helped understand my body better and feel healthier/happier. It’s also a great way for my husband to get involved and learn more about my cycle and trends. I know it might not work for everyone but I’ve loved it and recommend it.
- [R12] Love it: I’ve been using Natural Cycles for two months now, and I absolutely love it! Before using it, I didn’t really understand my cycle or know how to recognize what my body was telling me. Now I feel like I’m finally getting to know my body. So far, I haven’t gotten pregnant 🤣, and the app has helped me better understand my fertile days, my temperature patterns, and my cycle overall. It’s mad
- [R15] This app has been so helpful!! :): I have loved using this app for over a year now! It is so great for natural family planning!☺️ It has truly helped me get to learn more about my cycle and how my body works!
- [R17] Skeptical at first: I’ve been watching this app for several years now and haven’t used it yet. After life changes I decided it was time. It not only predicted exactly when I would ovulate (I can feel my ovulation) but it also predicted the exact day my period would come. It had a different day than apple health had predicted and I’ve been using Apple tracking for many years. Natural cycles said T
- [R36] The best app: I love NC! Paired with my oura ring it helped me get pregnant and I’ll forever be thankful. We had been ttc for so long and were able to avoid IVF with the help of NC!
- [R62] Helpful to get pregnant: This App literally helped me to get pregnant with tracking my ovulation and cycles!
- [R79] Truly works: I got this app after hearing good things about it through friends. I had been using the Oura ring for a few months and still felt like I didn’t really understand the temp drop method. Within two months of using this app I tested positive. I truly think it was because of all the great articles that I understood my cycle better and we were able to plan better around that. I highly recom
- [R28] Love this app: Just had baby #4 8 months ago, and I used this app before to get pregnant it worked and this time want it to not get pregnant I have also paired it with the Oura ring as well, I’ve been on a mini birth control pill and breastfeeding for 8 months and it has wrecked my sex drive and my moods / personality. I wanted my body back and so did my husband and since I was weaning baby from b
- [R31] LOVE this app!: I have been using this app for almost 2 years. I started with their thermometer, but now track my data through the Oura Ring. The thermometer method took a bit of time to remember to use it right when I wake up. The ring is so much easier since I don’t have to do anything besides wear the ring. It does take some time to gather data, so unprotected sex days are very limited at first
- [R39] I LOVE NC!: Natural Cycles paired with my Oura ring, has been so helpful in better understanding my individual cycle. I am better equipped to make fertility decisions, and fully comprehend my body’s responses and feelings. There is so much to the female cycle, and apps like this are helping women educate themselves because we all know we aren’t being educated on it unless we seek it out ourselves.
- [R42] Super accurate w Oura ring: Once my hormones leveled out getting off of BC I got pregnant in like 2 months because the tracking was so accurate. I use it to prevent pregnancy now and I have been going strong for a year!
- [R10] Red days all month except: I like not having to be on BC, and I love all of the education in the app, but I’ve been using NC now for going on 6 months and I’m annoyed that this has basically become “no sex all month except for a day or two before your period and a day or two after your period.” Quite literally. I’m tracking every day, and even taking ovulation tests and putting the ovulation test
- [R19] Empowering: Truly a great design and product. Very empowering.
- [R25] BEST OUT THERE: Hands out best period tracker I have owned. So many benefits and when I had a problem with setting up a device, I emailed support and in less than a DAY they contacted me back fixing my problem. If you’re looking for help tracking ovulation, periods, etc this is the app. Super accurate and budget friendly. Thank you NC :) <3
- [R46] So much better than hormonal birth control: Expensive but worth it. You have to be strict on yourself and either use protection on red days or abstain. Way better than implants or hormones though.
- [R14] Glitchy app: I have been using Natural Cycles as birth control for almost 2 years and while I have had a positive experience, my only complaint is how glitchy the app is sometimes. I have to open my Oura ring app to load my data for the day over and over and for some reason the Natural Cycles app struggles to communicate with my oura app. It’s very frustrating. Today I have tried to get the Oura a
- [R21] Love it!!!!: This process of tracking my fertility via an app was scary to me at first because it is a lot of information to trust someone with, but not only has this been super effective, but I’ve learned so much about myself and my body along the way! I am very thankful for NC!
- [R30] Oh the power of knowledge!: This app has been a godsend. I know my body better than ever before and am grateful to be off hormonal birth control and still feel safe.
- [R33] The Best Cycle Tracking Out There!: As someone who has had an irregular cycle off and on her whole life, NC has helped empower me and gives me clear data as to the “why’s”. For the first time in my life, if my cycle does something unpredictable, I can look back at my temperatures and data and figure out possible causes AND solutions. We use it for family planning as well, and we’re two years stron
- [R41] Was Perfect: This app was great until the most recent update. Now it takes forever to sync with my Oura Ring. I have to reload it several times before it actually does anything. I never had this problem until they updated the app.
