Skyscanner Flights & Travel
Skyscanner is generally praised for finding cheap flights and providing numerous options, but recent updates have introduced significant usability issues, including frequent freezing, inaccurate pricing, and the removal of popular features.
Skyscanner helps users find competitive prices for flights and offers a wide range of travel options, making it a go-to for many travelers R6R43. However, recent updates have led to a decline in user experience, with frequent app crashes, misleading price displays, and the removal of useful filtering and search features R11R12R2R16. The app's reliance on third-party booking sites also raises concerns about scams and unreliable information R1R4R38.

Who it's for
Skyscanner is for travelers looking for a broad range of flight options and potentially cheap deals, especially for last-minute bookings R30R20. It is less suitable for users who prioritize app stability, accurate real-time pricing, robust filtering options (like direct flights or baggage inclusion), or those who are wary of booking through third-party sites R1R2R11R176.
Evidence note: The recent reviews skew heavily negative, with many users reporting significant issues with app stability, price accuracy, and the reliability of third-party bookings. While there are positive reviews praising its ability to find cheap flights, these are often overshadowed by the widespread technical and functional complaints. The developer's release notes for the 'Drops' feature are contradicted by a user who called it a 'joke' R27.

- [R13] Orlando trip: So convenient and the price was the cheapest.. I highly recommend…
- [R15] Excelentes: Primera vez q la uso y me pareció fácil su acceso y los precios no son los más altos ni los más baratos, tienen un precio módico oh intermedio
- [R17] Good deals: Helps find the best deals!
- [R25] Best flight search APP: Always provide best flight prices for any distension Highly recommend using it
- [R6] Great App: I recently discovered Skyscanner while planning a trip to Europe. I love that it connects you to so many options for flights, accommodations, tours, etc. and all your confirmation info, pin #, receipts, correspondence, etc., is all in one spot.
- [R20] Find best when it’s short time: Skyscanner good assistance in a way to have more choices and options. Very handy 😌
- [R30] Very basic, use Google Flights for long term flight tracking!: It’s great for last minute bookings, also used Skiplagged for last minute flight booking. There used to be the filter for choosing different continents, well they got rid of that which is a bummer. However there algorithms for flight prices has been more accurate. Unfortunately, for long term flight tracking details I’d recommend Googl
- [R43] Best travel app, hands-down.: I’ve been using Skyscanner for over a decade now I’ve traveled over 50 countries being in the military that’s a great option and Skyscanner is my go to for any kind of weekend travels or long-term travels and shows the best prices. It helps. You figure out where you wanna go when you wanna go and what’s possible at the best budget Skyscanner is just an amazing nap and
- [R37] Price updates: I love the timely price updates and trends.
- [R72] Cheap flights: Cheap flights and GREAT notifications!
- [R73] Great App: Provides travel information that other sites do not. Alerts are helpful. Prices are as good or better than other sites.
- [R18] 1st time user: It was a great experience and very good price, gonna do this again. Love it
- [R47] Very helpful: I have used Skyscanner when I start planning for a trip. Every time I have found Skyscanner very efficient, easy to use, and the price indicator extremely helpful. I will never undertake a trip without using Skyscanner. Wilson
- [R8] Buyer Beware: Firstly the app locks up regularly. Next if you choose the option for checked and carry on baggage actually getting you the results and not having to pay a pretty penny once you resolve since some of the places they send you to don’t acknowledge it until after the fact. What a scam.
- [R11] Keeps freezing: I don’t typically take the time to leave a review, but I’ve honestly been so annoyed by this app that I feel it’s only justified. Every time I try to use this freaking app it freezes on me and then I have to delete it and reload it. the website may be good. The app is a giant piece of garbage.
- [R12] Useless: I get maybe one interaction with the UI and the app freezes. Tap an icon, enter a destination, etc. App stops responding.
- [R14] App constantly freezes: The app constantly freezes and becomes unusable to the point where I have to force close the app and try again, only for it to immediately freeze again. Latest version of iOS. iPhone 16 Pro
- [R2] Usually great, but some frustrating caveats: I’ve found great airfare with Skyscanner before, but a frustrating issue I run into is the fares shown in the search look very promising, but when I click on that flight, all of a sudden the price of fares doubles. It’s very annoying and feels like a bait and switch.
- [R34] Always changes: Whenever you find a flight, when you go to finalize it’s instantly not the same price and they say, airlines frequently change prices but it’s always lower.
- [R39] Not what u expect: Bought tickets for one price and moved up almost 1200 dollars more an hour later
- [R56] Precios no son verdad: Precios no son como indican al principio , luego pueden subir en 5 veces
- [R1] SCAM WEBSITE: Skyscanner lets scam third party websites onto the platform I just got scammed and when I tried to write sky scanner the skyscmner “help “ part of the website made it IMPOSSIBLE to send my complaint…Skyscanner platform wouldn’t let me send the 4 pieces of proof showing how the website Skyscanner sent me to, SKY TOURS, and this I was SCAMMED. Btw SKYTOURS, three phone numbers, all fa
- [R4] DO NOT TRUST BUDGET AIR: I booked through SkyScanner and unfortunately, they include Budget Air which is a scam company. Look up their reviews. All one stars. I reached out to support and told them not to reach out to Budget Air, and they did the exact opposite. I hardly write reviews, but this is crazy. I booked through Budget Air, only to find out they canceled my flight without my consent the s
- [R31] Bad airline ticket sources - GO TO GATE: Skyscanner does not authenticate their airline ticket sources, for instances, we selected website GO TO GATE to purchase Azul Airline ticket and GO TO GATE website NEVER issues a confirmation number for an Azul flight. Ticket counter agent needed this information for check in, GO TO GATE issues an “Order” number not valid at airline check-in.
- [R38] It can lead to scam: It can lead to scams because it redirects you to third-party booking sites like Algotels hotel.
- [R45] Awful release notes: No new features. I still can’t filter by connection time.
- [R176] Unable to specify direct only: Trying to use this to find the cheapest non-stop flight options does not seem to be possible. I even tried the “AI” based “Savvy Search”, but it always finds the cheapest overall dates - and once I then get to select “Direct”, the rates are no better than any other dates. Not an issue for some, but makes it almost useless to me.
- [R184] Airfare: The only offers for flights are either one or two stops, no direct flights.
- [R208] Why no baggage included in flight search?: I think I’ll stay with Kayak searches because I can add all my checked and carry on baggage when searching prices.
- [R9] Missing in-app price alerts: The app doesn’t show my price alerts inside the app. It takes me out to the website. As such, there is no immediate in-app notification of these alerts. I still have to go to my emails for them. Thus, the app does not add any additional benefit to the website functionality.
- [R32] Doesn’t track well: It won’t track what is chosen (direct flights). Instead it tracks flights with one stop.
- [R76] Unfortunately unreliable: I set a price alert for direct flights from IAH to Montego Bay Jamaica on December 30 departure to January 5 arrival. At some point Skyscanner lost track of the only direct flight on those dates which is United airlines from those destinations and it didn’t inform me about the price increase that was happening because it no longer even shows that flight or any direct flig
- [R164] Price alert not working: The feature I’m keeping this app for, hasn’t been working for a while now, which is price alert and saving dates.
- [R16] No map; no good: In the past, I felt like the Map feature was one of the best to give a good visual - now it’s gone. So am I.
- [R225] Anytime anywhere gone?!: Is the flight finder feature that displays lowest prices gone? This was the best feature of this app, please bring it back!
- [R313] Great for some things: Great app if you know your exact dates of travel. Will continue to use the website version as the app version does not allow you to look at the whole month, useful for comparing flight times and prices-it would be really useful if this was available on the app.
- [R29] Can’t select destination!: I’m able to choose a date range, number of travelers and class. But there is no apparent way to choose a destination. Frustrating!! Not intuitive. Bug?
- [R91] Very unpredictable app as far as usability: Skyscanner sometimes works great, but whether you will really be able to search what you’re looking for is a toss up. The app sometimes will changes requested dates, or flip from one way to round trip, despite multiple attempts to change the desired filters. I thought this was only on my iPhone but on desktop it’s even worse. I hope whatever glitches are
- [R276] Don’t fix it if it’s not broken: They have changed my favourite app. Given it a make over it didn’t need. I use this app a lot as I travel very often and it’s not so user friendly now.
- [R340] Not intuitive enough: I have always used this app but I just wish it gave more options when wanting to search everywhere. I want to go for 3-4 days somewhere but it only seems to give me options for a week.
- [R99] So many ads: The app is great for specifically tracking prices, but my use case is watching specific flights rather than deals on flights to Vegas or Cancun every weekend, and the deluge of ads was unbelievable
- [R19] New update is horrible: I’ve used this site for years. Always been easy to use new update is not user friendly. And the back button doesn’t work just freezes or makes you start over. Fire the team that did this to your site.
- [R24] Hate the new app: The new app doesn’t work at all . Tried to search and it keeps going back to the old search
- [R27] It looks like your flight has changed price: The “drops” feature in the app is a joke
- [R60] Turned into clickbait: This app was what I would always use years ago. And I always told my friends about it. But lately I hate using it. It always presents a price and then when you click on the flights the prices are way higher. This app has turned into nothing but clickbait. It’s very disappointing.
- [R40] Fall from greatness: Have been using this app for years but the bugs and lagging in recent versions have rendered it unusable.
- [R271] Missing feature on iphone: Cannot deselect stopovers. Really important at the moment!!
- [R447] The latest update: The app holds onto the old search data even once fully closed it doesn’t launch with a clear search function. On iPhones it also doesn’t allow for you to select “direct flights” only. Got a great response from the company on this, which leads me to believe they listen to reviews and are looking to make the App better. Thanks
