ZINIO
ZINIO offers a wide selection of digital magazines, but frequent app crashes, download issues, and poor offline functionality make it a questionable value, especially for paid subscriptions.
ZINIO provides a platform for reading digital magazines, with users appreciating the convenience of having many titles in one place. However, the app is plagued by persistent technical issues like crashing, inability to open, and problems with downloading or accessing magazines offline, which significantly detract from its value.
Free vs paid
The reviews indicate that ZINIO is primarily a platform for accessing paid magazine subscriptions and individual issues R49. There is no clear free tier mentioned in the reviews, but users experience issues with accessing content they have already paid for, suggesting that the core value proposition of paid access is often undermined by technical problems R20R27R33.

- [R11] Don’t subscribe!!!: Don’t use this app. They make it impossible to cancel a subscription. Every other subscription service through iTunes is super easy to cancel a subscription, but not on ZINIO. Ridiculous! The ZINIO subscription doesn’t even show under my iTunes account even though the billing is through iTunes. Save yourself a nightmare and don’t use this app for magazines.
- [R43] sale ordering: The only 2 problems I have ever had with Zinio is when they post an email stating that there is a discount or sale, the magazines that I already have subscriptions to won’t let me pick them. I have to call Zinio, and then get a discount code, but always less than the add promised. Somehow, auto renewal was activated without clear notification at the time of subscription. I wil
- [R320] Good For Mags But Overly Complicated: I have been a user of ZINIO for many years. I was a big magazine reader but didn’t like all the paper it wasted so I went digital. I initially loved all the choice I had and subscribed to a few magazines but it quickly became apparent just how overly complicated the App & the website is. It’s not easy to cancel auto renew subscriptions unless you know where
- [R33] Subscriptions are broken: It is March 2025. I just subscribed to Auto and Design and the first issue I received was from 2023. The latest issue is clearly displayed in the store, so why am I getting an old issue instead? There is no place to review subscriptions in the app, and no way to download the latest issue. Why is this happening? Poor app. I need resolution to this.
- [R20] Zino: I have had this app for years! Up dated my iPad one day and the next thing I know is some of the magazines I bought over the years are there but now they say i have to buy every magazine all over again! I have never had this happen to me before! Goodbye Zino never again!
- [R27] Terrible app: Each time I go into the app to continue reading my magazines they are gone. I need to delete the app, reload it, and restore purchases. My most recent time none of them would reload. Looks like I might be out of my purchases.
- [R257] Disappearing magazines: I like having all my mags in one place. I find that my magazine ‘disappear’ or sometimes download or appear in my library. I can’t see any function to add to your library for books you have subscription but are not showing.
- [R163] Notification Spam: The app does not provide a toggle to disable marketing push notifications. You are better off disabling notifications for the app entirely.
- [R233] Difficult to get to magazines: This app works well and is very easy to navigate and read the magazine, once you get there. get to your magazine you first have to tap on Library at the bottom, then an annoying screen pops up wanting you to sign up for some magazine for 30% off. It is difficult to find the X to close this window so you can finally get to the magazine.
- [R275] Poor quality.: Iv’e just subscribed to a magazine for 12 months, so why I’m I being constantly nagged each time I open Zinio by advertising. The digital quality is poor compared to other magazine viewers. I will not be renewing.
- [R185] Out of print Magazines!: Refund unused subscription moneys when a magazine goes out of print! At least notify the subscribers and give them the opportunity to apply that money elsewhere or refund!?
- [R29] Great way to have magazines for travel: Instead of carrying magazines use your mobile devices
- [R67] Love reading my magazines on my tablet!: Easy to use, store and access am my digital versions of my magazines.
- [R85] Magazine a holic: I am obsessed with magazines, especially Country Living UK. Before ZINIO, I kept stacks and stacks, going back to 1996. Of course, I still have those, but enjoyment and storage is much, much better with ZINIO! And I never miss an issue and they arrive early!
- [R86] Love this app: I like magazines but don’t like the paper waste. Perfect answer is ZINIO.
- [R49] Easy, well worth the minimal cost, Enjoy!: You can pick and choose issues you’d love to read, and leave others behind. There’s SO much to choose from! Why not customize a year of magazines (6 or more) from various publications, instead of buying issues you won’t read? Variety beats boring every time!
- [R72] Love you: I absolutely love ZINIO I was born in Spain and when I was 11 moved to Denmark. My dad was from Spain and my mom from Denmark. Here I can purchase and keep in touch with what is going on in my countries culturally, fashion and gastronomic. Danish, English, Spanish even German magazines. I can find favorite recipes, gossip magazines and fashion styles. I love ZINIO..please get more magaz

- [R37] Great!: So fun to read! Can’t put it down!
- [R65] Zinio love: What more is there to say. Zinio is beautiful, crisp and bold. If you haven't given Zinio a chance, then take the time to give Zinio a chance. You'll love it.
- [R109] Excellent: Very friendly and very easy to use
- [R32] Cannot access eight years of magazine subscriptions: For the last week I have been emailing support and they were able to fix the problem.
- [R42] Problems solved: Updated review problems solved
- [R66] Changing my review: Got helpful customer support that has corrected my previous review. Got all my concerns and questions answered, thank ZINIO for all your help.
- [R76] Easy access on airplanes would be preferred: Every time I get on an airplane, this app makes it difficult to get to my magazines. It appears to be a problem with access to the Internet. The whole point of having a digital magazine app is to be able to look at the magazines on an airplane or while traveling and you don’t necessarily have an Internet connection. This needs to be improved.
- [R101] Great app to read my magazines but bugs with downloaded ones: The last time I traveled internationally, I downloaded my magazines beforehand so I should not rely on any spotty internet connection to read them but I discovered that I could not open already downloaded unread magazines while onboard with zero wifi. Bummer!
- [R110] It Used To Work !: Around late September 2022 though, their update broke The offline reading ability, & They seem very uninterested in fixing it. Me sad.
- [R112] Not available off line: Have many magazines downloaded. Today got a meddage mot availiable. So much for the off line avsilability.
- [R3] Doesn’t work half the time!!!: It would be nice if this actually worked!! I constantly have to use the desktop site to see my magazines. Why don’t you make an app that actually works?!?
- [R4] It keeps crashing: Now, it won’t even open, then crash again and again.
- [R6] Doesn’t open on iPad: All software is current and yet the Zinio app won’t open. Tapping the app icon just opens as a flash up and immediately dissipates.
- [R7] Doesn’t work on iPad: I’m running iPadOS 26.1 and this app closes immediately upon opening. This developer isn’t responsive nor are they even trying to fix the app!
- [R19] Inteliable glitches: Terrible access to content. No reply from help. Using for years. Now have a problem but no jelly
- [R38] Have to Delete ZINIO Newsstand App and reinstall to get library to open on my IPad: Then I have to download each magazine to have it available in my library to read. Have contacted ZINIO support and the above was their solution. The app is updated to the latest soft ware version. Have been a subscriber for the last 17 years without this problem. Have to down grade to 3 star rating from a consisten
- [R130] Good and Bad: I love the fact that my magazines are electronic and can be found on a single app. I don't like the fact that, 1. I have to wait until my subscription expires until I can renew it. 2. I am not allowed to subscribe multiple years at one time. 3. my preferred magazines don't come up at the front. 4. And there is no way to hide magazine suggestions that are offensive to me.
