FOX Weather

65
Value score / 100 Worth paying? Depends It depends

FOX Weather is a generally accurate and reliable free weather app, but its user experience is significantly hampered by an overwhelming number of disruptive ads and navigation issues.

Free + in-app purchases seen up to $12.99 4.8★ lifetime (363,173) since 2021

FOX Weather is praised by many users for its local accuracy and timely forecasts, making it a dependable tool for daily planning and safety. However, the free version is plagued by excessive, intrusive ads and navigation problems, leading many to consider other options or the ad-free paid tier.

Free vs paid

The free version of FOX Weather provides daily forecasts, radar, and weather updates, which many users find accurate and helpful R2R3R5R6. However, the free experience is severely degraded by numerous, long, and disruptive ads that cover the screen, freeze the app, and interrupt content R39R10R25R32. Some users who paid for an ad-free experience still reported seeing ads R15R150. The paid version, which costs $1.99, $5, or $12.99, is intended to remove these ads R111.

Value complaints

  • Excessive and disruptive ads make the free app almost unusable, pushing users to pay.R39R10R25R32
  • Some users who paid for the ad-free version still reported seeing ads.R15R150
  • The radar only provides a two-hour forecast, which is shorter than competitors, even for paid users.R159
  • Users feel they should get ad-free content if they already pay for other Fox services.R170

Where it delivers

  • Many users find the app to be accurate, especially at the local level, and reliable for daily planning.R2R3R5R6
  • The app provides timely weather updates and good coverage of current conditions.R8R42R49R51
  • Users appreciate the radar features, including 2D and 3D options, for tracking storms.R11R29R43R72
  • The layout is generally liked by some users, with useful features like humidity, dewpoint, and sunrise/sunset settings.R55
Worth paying if

It is worth paying if you rely heavily on the app for critical daily planning or work, such as for a landscaping business or as a firefighter, and find the free version's ads too disruptive to get timely, accurate information R6. However, be aware that some users reported still receiving ads even after paying R15R150.

Skip / stay free if

You should skip paying if you are unwilling to risk still encountering ads after purchase, or if you find the app's accuracy inconsistent for your location R1. Also, if you are looking for a radar with a longer forecast window than two hours, as the paid version only offers a two-hour radar R159.

Evidence note: While the lifetime rating is high, recent reviews frequently highlight significant issues with ads and navigation, which are not reflected in the overall score. There is conflicting evidence on accuracy, with many praising it and many others finding it unreliable.

  1. [R39] 3/5 · US Highly disruptive ads: Waay too much annoying advertising covering entire screen just to read basic information.
  2. [R10] 1/5 · US Do they use their own APP: Horrible. Whenever a story from Fox turns into a story from Fox Weather, I just close it. 18. [R29] 5/5 · US Choice of geographical wording: I enjoy almost everything about your weather app. Live Storm Tracker with your 3D Radar. However it is absolutely annoying and geographically incorrect to use the Gulf of America when describing the large body of water which separates the United States and Northern Mexico from the Caribbean Sea. You capitulate because someone in the people’s house at 1500 Pennsylvan
  19. [R43] 5/5 · US Love this Weather App: Best radar going

  21. [R55] 5/5 · US 5/5. Works well!: I like to lay out pretty well. And I like the humidity, dewpoint, and sunset in sunrise settings
  22. [R1] 1/5 · US 90% wrong: I do not find this app reliable, I know forecasting is about predictions, but with today’s technology I feel you guys could be more accurate!
  23. [R35] 1/5 · US Sad & unethical: Aggressive pop up apps causing to miss direct and persistently keep you away checking the local weather. Naturally is all about money not serving public safety weather forecasts.
  24. [R111] 2/5 · US 2 Stars: responding to Devel response which was selling me on 12.99/yr. I obviously Know about that. Like I said, Adds I am fine with but the amount and timing of them hS gotten ridiculous. that doesn't incentivized me to pay 12.99 No response required. I am ok with ads, just not the way you are now presenting them. App DELETED
  25. [R4] 2/5 · US Confused: I tapped on a story on the FoxNews app about earthquakes occurring in a certain state and I wanted to find out what state. So when I tapped on it to see, it took me to the current weather forecast. Not the story I wanted to see about the earthquakes. I think it should have taken me to the story that I wanted to see, not what it thought I should see instead.
  26. [R18] 2/5 · US Story Links: Stories linked on Fox News go to weather home page, not the article. You have to scroll to find it.
  27. [R22] 2/5 · US Not the article: Fox weather has teaser notifications. I select a specific one and the “tease” doesn’t come up.
