Who it's for
Falou is for beginners and those who want to focus on practical conversational skills and pronunciation, especially if they find other apps lacking in speaking practice R9R10. It is suitable for users who prefer an interactive and engaging learning experience R22R60. However, it may not be ideal for users seeking in-depth grammar explanations, those learning less common languages not fully supported R2, or users who are sensitive to aggressive in-app purchase prompts R46R98.
Evidence note: The recent reviews skew heavily positive, with a large number of 5-star ratings praising the app's effectiveness for speaking. The negative points, while fewer in number, are consistent across multiple users and often detail significant functional issues. The high lifetime rating (4.76) suggests that the positive aspects are generally well-received over time, but the recent negative sentiment (0.15) indicates a potential decline in user satisfaction, possibly due to the recurring technical bugs and monetization concerns.

- [R5] It’s great !: it’s helped me so much learn how to have conversations which are meaningful !
- [R10] Genuinely helpful: This is the app which has helped me the most in the time I have being trying to learn Japanese. I have learned more by speaking along with the prompts and examples than any other app. Yes, there are apps which help with memorising hiragana and katakana but this app is the best to get you speaking.
- [R13] Falou: I learnt how to speak a lot better after a week after using it
- [R54] Speaking works: Falou is easily the best app for learning a language. Puzzles, flash card and recognising text does not teach you a language. You learn by speaking as this give you passive memory gains. This is how you learnt to speak your native language
- [R4] Simple and easy: Very simple and easy to follow
- [R11] Easy: Bit too easy but I’m only on day 2
- [R41] Amazing: Love it so much and so helpful for people that are beginners Thank you !
- [R42] What i think: Absolutely amazing! My duolingo used to expect me to know hangeul, and i was SOOOO lost, so i tried alot of apps. But ads, payments and not learning, got in the way. I 100% recommend this app it’s incredibly helpful!
- [R9] Amazing app!: I learnt my first sentence within 30 seconds! I definitely recommend this app instead of the green owl!
- [R14] So far, it’s good: It’s similar to Duolingo, but it actually gets pronunciation way better I will change my review later if anything changes in my decision
- [R15] Fall: Very helpful better then Duolingo
- [R24] It’s actually better than Duolingo: The word selection is so go and grammar is nice
- [R6] It’s good but I’m stuck: So far so good with the app I’m yet to finish level 1 but I like how it hears your pronunciation but the last part of level 1 won’t load it’s just saying “loading… learn new words” and it won’t load anything
- [R25] Yaaaaaas: It’s so good helps you pronunciat and give you unlimited energy
- [R30] It’s amazing: I’m learning Korean! And every time I get it wrong it always makes me go agin instead of skipping! And there’s a full thing you can click on to make it explain!!
- [R60] Falou is awesome: I am learning Vietnamese and Falou has helped me a whole bunch😊 It shows me my mistakes and let’s me correct them as well as making a fun interactive experience.
- [R22] Enjoyable to use: Easy to follow and great fun. Highly recommend.
- [R51] Falou Review: ITS SOOOOO CUTE and I love the way it’s friendly and just fun to learn with it <3
- [R56] It’s fun: It’s fun
- [R2] Not great for Hindi: Some good features but very slow response on a lot of the audio, incomplete grammar explanations, transliteration incorrect or inconsistent. Could be so good - but this app needs testing and improving for Hindi. Aggressive marketing.
- [R21] Ok. But problems with voice recognition: Good program but let down by poor voice recognition
- [R20] Poor: The sound doesn’t work properly so can’t hear you. Have to keep closing and reopening the app! Don’t waste your money!!
- [R48] Speech recognition is failing: There is no improvement. It has an issue and due to this lessons are so frustrating.I am starting to regret paying annual fee for this. (2 month into using this)
- [R26] Turkish: Just started using app and learning a few words. Tho some of app is not working and occasionally not picking up my errors.
- [R45] Greek: Very glitchy, doesn’t always load new content - great when it actually works.
- [R44] Doesn’t make sense: The phrases you are taught don’t make sense, such as can you teach me the umbrella. Not real life sentences. Not useful for real life.
- [R62] Fed up: Some of the sentences are so ridiculous they don’t even exist in the real life .Just wasting time .You can’t skip it .Very slow going
- [R46] Disappointed: After seeing the ads for the product I was under the impression that I would get access to the AI tutor after paying the initial subscription. To discover later that this is an additional bolt on, costing extra, was very disappointing and felt like sharp practice. More transparency is required.
- [R85] To fast and cost so much: Speaking too fast learning some stuff that was pointless and hidden cost wanna go on $$
- [R98] Extremely annoying hard push for monetise: Already during first few steps the apps forces annoying unskippable and quite cringy videos pushing you for buying premium subscription followed with screen intentionally designed for you to got to monetisation without intending to do so just to get rid of that annoying screen.
- [R17] Greek: This is a great app for speaking although the microphone is a bit flaky. I already know a lot of Greek and sometimes this app gives the incorrect gender for nouns. That said is great for improving conversational skills
- [R68] Bad: Teaches you that in Finnish “hi” is “hei,” has you repeat it. Moves to another lesson. Teaches you that “hi” is “moi” and has you repeat it. Gives another prompt immediately to translate “hi” and tells you that you are wrong when you say “moi” from literally less than a minute ago. Proceeds to several lessons that start with “hi” and the choice between “hei” and “moi” seems to be fairly arbit
- [R27] Good but ….: I do really like it but it goes past the sentences really fast and I guess I am so used to Duolingo that this seems like im not really making progress and you can’t go over the words individually so it’s not great with helping pronunciation
- [R50] Doesn’t work: This app is terrible. I have used many different methods for learning Greek and this says I’m right when I’m wrong, says I’m wrong when I’m right. Doesn’t ‘hear’ properly and then goes on the ring of death scrolling round! Do not recommend.
