Who it's for

Monarch is for individuals and couples who want a visually appealing and intuitive app to track their overall finances, manage budgets, and monitor investments across multiple accounts R1R5R13R14. It is particularly well-suited for former Mint users looking for a comprehensive replacement R1R12R18R59. It is NOT for users who are heavily focused on debt payoff R33, rely on precise real-time account balances including pending transactions , or require robust investment analysis tools without extra cost R55. Users in Canada, especially those with RBC or CIBC accounts, should be wary due to widespread connection issues R105.

Evidence note: The recent reviews skew significantly negative, primarily due to widespread and persistent account syncing issues, especially for Canadian users, and complaints about customer support and billing. This contrasts sharply with the high lifetime rating, suggesting a recent decline in user satisfaction, particularly regarding connectivity and support. The developer's release notes mention fixing budget summary discrepancies and faster goal loading, but do not address the prevalent syncing problems or customer service complaints.

  1. [R1] 5/5 · US Right for an old Mint user: I was a faithful Mint user for at least 10 years before they shut it down. I searched to find something new. Quicken Simplifi didn’t have the intuitive metrics I wanted, but Monarch does.
  2. [R3] 5/5 · US Best Budgeting App: I use budgeting software for over a decade, and this is definitely the easiest budgeting software I’ve ever used, and this helped me to switch up to more of a cash management system
  3. [R5] 5/5 · US Monarch Made Taxes & Biz Ops So Much Easier!: If you’re looking for a budgeting app that is the complete package, this is it - it has an elegant design (+1, orange is my fave too), a UX that is easy to navigate and customize, for both quick glance features and in-depth info with charts, filters, tags, colors, etc. My personal fave features are the Recurring section where it lists all your monthly
  4. [R12] 5/5 · US Really good; well designed: Very glad I switched to Monarch Money when Mint shut down. App works efficiently & the UI is intuitive, clear & comprehensive. Great support & tracking for what I need to monitor. Plus, the customer service & app development seems to be responsive and are consistently adding improvements/enhancements. You have the feeling there are actually people behind the scenes t
  5. [R6] 5/5 · US The Only Budgeting App That Has Stuck: I tried multiple budgeting apps and this is the only one that I’ve stuck with. It’s super easy to connect your accounts and track all your purchases. Without hyperbole, I’ve never felt better about my personal finances and it’s in large part due to this app.
  6. [R14] 5/5 · US CPA using it personally: I’m a CPA and I love Monarch for my own family’s finances. It’s shockingly easy to use, and it gives the full picture of absolutely everything, and it helps us plan ahead in a way that even my non-CPA family can understand. After using others like quicken, mint, ms money, and several other financial platforms over time, it feels like they were all leading up to monarch.
  7. [R20] 5/5 · US Thanks for Making it Easy: I kept telling myself that I needed to create a budget, but I just couldn’t get started. My daughter told me about Monarch and encouraged me to give it a try. Monarch wasn’t overwhelming and walked me through each step. I’m happy to share that I now have a budget! Thanks, Monarch!
  8. [R13] 5/5 · US The perfect transparent couples Finance app: If you’re OK with having a transparent financial situation with your partner, this app is absolutely amazing
  9. [R17] 5/5 · US Great for couples or households with many accounts: My wife and I use Monarch to manage expenses, track savings and investments across multiple accounts. Since we do not combine accounts, monarch allows for both us to have a consolidated view of our household finances.
  10. [R33] 3/5 · US If you’re paying off debt, NOT FOR YOU!!: I love everything else about this app. It’s got a great desktop and mobile version, account setup was easy and it’s visually pleasing and easy to navigate. My husband and I can finally both see our complete and up-to-date financial picture in a way we can both appreciate instead of me just tracking in Quicken and printing reports for him that he’ll barely
  11. [R42] 5/5 · US Love Monarch! So great for family finance planning: My husband and I use monarch to have visibility across all of our accounts and help us better budget and save! It’s been so much easier than spreadsheets or checking our accounts at the dinner table to make sure we were on track! I love that we can sync our accounts for auto updates and set our own budgeting goals! As someone who hates budgeting
  12. [R18] 5/5 · US Fantastic tool: After Mint went under I tried a number of personal finance tools before finally settling on Monarch. Since then they’ve gotten better and better, adding features and tools and now integrating AI to become not just an accounting tool, but an investment tracking and life planning tool. The annual fee is well well worth it.
  13. [R59] 5/5 · US Exceeds Expectations: Use to use Mint which was an amazing Finance Management tool which turned into Credit Karma which is not. After lots of research, landed with Monarch which has exceeded expectations particularly Budget Tracking and keeping tabs across my various accounts. The goal setting feature is also great allowing linkage to certain accounts to allocate a %.
  14. [R4] 4/5 · US Great addition: With the exception of refreshing accounts mainly due to my Etrade accounts . I had to learn how to refresh them manually wich ar first was a little difficult. But over all this is a great App for keeping your Finances in check. Love it.
  15. [R28] 1/5 · US Trash doesn't work: As soon as my free trial ended and I gave them money, half of my accounts stopped working, and were unfixable despite all support told me to do. It defeated the entire purpose of the app.
  16. [R35] 1/5 · US Starts working fine, then….: Starts working fine, then accounts stop updating, the bot blames plaid and the financial institution. But no fix.
  17. [R62] 3/5 · US Disconnected Accounts: My husband and I signed up for this service to help with budgeting and to get a more accurate, transparent picture of where our money was going instead of relying on spreadsheets. Like many people, we have multiple bank and credit card accounts, and it seemed like every other day we were getting notifications that one of our accounts had disconnected. It became frustrating
  18. [R36] 1/5 · US Cancel my subscription - poor customer support and disappointing business practices.: I’ve been a Monarch customer for several years, but I’ve decided to cancel my subscription. Over the past few months, I’ve noticed a decline in the service and feature improvements. Things got worse in April when they introduced a two-tier system that wasn’t available to Apple subscribers. To add insult to injur
  19. [R65] 1/5 · US No customer service: In today’s day and age you need to have a reliable way to get in contact with your customer service besides resorting to begging an AI thing to get you a real person and having to message them on Instagram
  20. [R73] 1/5 · US App Great - Support not so much: Great powerful app when it works. The lack or response from support when paying 100 per year is extremely disappointing and forcing me to change.
  21. [R102] 1/5 · CA Doesn’t work, paid one year for nothing , no one replies to questions: Zero customer support , lost over $100 on this garbage
  22. [R15] 1/5 · US Charged after cancelling, overpriced, basic: I used Monarch for a few days and made a spreadsheet in Excel with help from chatgpt that was far better and cost me nothing. Then when I canceled the subscription before the free trial ended, I was charged anyway. There’s no need to use an app like this. You need to have control of your finances. I like entering each charge because it makes me connect
  23. [R22] 1/5 · US Illegally billing to avoid apples cut: This ghetto ratchet pathetic app deserves to be banned from the App Store. They are forcing you to go off app into a web Brower to unsubscribe or update any payment info. Making any changes to payment virtually impossible and avoiding apples cut of the $$$$. Take this app down now. It is horrible and violating your terms of service.
  24. [R31] 1/5 · US Terrible: I’m gonna help you save money by making you spend it on a subscription. Great idea stupid.
  25. [R34] 1/5 · US Deceptive Practices: Don’t waste your time with Monarch. I used Monarch for 6 months and they sent me a free trial offer to try their new Plus account. I did the trial and decided the features of the Plus account did not justify an additional $100/yr. They told me I couldn’t go back to my already paid for subscription without having to pay for an entire year again. I still had 6 months left on my
  26. [R24] 4/5 · US Great but has bugs: This app is great when it works! I have had issues with it logging duplicate purchases which takes a lot of time to correct. I sent a message to their customer service over 3 weeks ago and still have not received a response. The latest issue I have noticed is it has not been alerting me of new purchases for me to review. This issue also requires extra time to go back and check
  27. [R39] 3/5 · US Not quite a Mint replacement: The original mint.com app and website won users over from Intuit Quicken in part from how it elegantly handled transfer transactions between accounts, such as credit card account payments from a checking account. In Aaron Patzer’s original product, this was automatic. Monarch, otoh, has to be trained to do this, account by account, and if the transfer transactions sig
  28. [R40] 1/5 · US I feel like I wasted my money: I started using Monarch in January. I didn’t use every feature, but I did use the budget and the goals feature. I just wanted to make sure I understood what was going in and coming out of my account. It worked great for me. It helped me feel a little less anxious about my finances. Now, like any other ill-advised company, it seems that Monarch has decided to focus f
  29. [R57] 1/5 · US Doubled CC transactions?: Enjoying the app but my credit card transactions are showing up twice for every purchase in the cash flow view of the app. Going to accounts everything looks correct. My review can change if this is fixed but if the cash flow and budgeting are inaccurate then what’s the point of spending money on this app. Please fix! I want to use your features
  30. [R2] 5/5 · US Feature Request: Add an option to export or print out the budget
  31. [R43] 1/5 · US Doesn’t work if you use credit cards: This app is much more like a money spend tracker than an actual budget. It’s passive, it lets you work off of projected income (so it will let you bounce a check, because you never know how much money you have available at any given moment). Worst of all, it’s not really compatible with credit card usage. Let’s say you spend $300 on groceries on a credit card.
  32. [R55] 1/5 · US Poor for investment: Good for expenses. Very poor for investment. To get any meaningful look at investment you have to pay extra and separate. Scam in my opinion
  33. [R9] 2/5 · US Privacy and policy: FYI they share your data with Facebook/Meta. You must go through the dark UX patterns of disconnecting it on the Facebook side if you don’t want that information automatically shared. I would appreciate better policy off the bat.
  34. [R97] 1/5 · US Bank Info Leak: Not sure how much it correlates but after downloading this app no more than a week after my bank account information was stolen and someone tried to open a credit card in my name
  35. [R8] 5/5 · US So easy!: Just recently transitioned from Quicken. I can't believe how easy it has been and all the additional benefits.
  36. [R101] 3/5 · CA Good not great: Can’t connect to my EQ bank account and other accounts in Canada. Very annoying
  37. [R103] 1/5 · CA Worst decision you will make to invest your money in Monarch: Unfortunately, there isn’t an option to rate negatively, or I would have given a lower score for the kind of support they offer. The app's UI and features may appeal to you, but connecting with many institutions simply won't work. If you try reaching out to their support center, you'll quickly realize the mistake of choosing Monarch. I'
  38. [R105] 2/5 · CA Don’t use with RBC: I really wanted to like this app - the aesthetics and functionality seem great - but syncing with RBC bank is just awful. Will try a different app.
  39. [R108] 1/5 · CA Unusable: The connections to financial institutions in Canada do not work and from what I can tell from other users have not worked for months now. It unfortunately renders the app useless
