Scanner
Scanner by Luni is not worth paying for due to numerous reports of hidden charges, deceptive subscription practices, and an unusable free version riddled with ads and paywalls.
While some users find Scanner by Luni easy to use and effective for basic scanning, the app is heavily criticized for its aggressive ads, forced paywalls, and deceptive subscription practices, making the free version nearly unusable and the paid version a financial risk. Many reviews indicate that the app charges users without consent or continues to charge after cancellation, leading to a poor value proposition.
Free vs paid
The free version of Scanner by Luni allows scanning but is severely limited, often restricting users to a maximum of 9 or 10 pages and adding a watermark that can obscure information R1R26R73. Users report that the free version is unusable due to an 'obscene amount' of unskippable ads that appear every time an action is taken, making it frustrating and inefficient R1R35R37R41. Many core features, such as saving scans, removing watermarks, or scanning more than a few documents, are locked behind a paywall R1R194R39. The paid version is supposed to remove ads and watermarks and unlock full functionality, but numerous users report being overcharged, charged after cancellation, or finding the paid features still buggy or non-functional R8R9R30.

Where it delivers
It is not recommended to pay for Scanner by Luni due to widespread complaints about deceptive billing practices, hidden charges, and an overwhelming ad experience even for some who paid R8R9R30R42.
You should skip this app if you are looking for a reliable, ad-free scanning experience, or if you are concerned about hidden charges and deceptive subscription practices R1R8R9R30. Users needing to scan more than a few pages, or who require clear, professional-looking documents without watermarks, should also avoid this app R1R26R73.
Evidence note: Recent reviews are heavily skewed negative, particularly regarding ads and paywalls, contrasting with the high lifetime rating which likely reflects an earlier, less monetized version of the app. Many positive reviews are very short and generic, offering little detail.

- [R1] Terrible app: I got this app because the scanner on our printer at work was broken. Why is everything locked behind a paywall? oh you want more than 10 documents scanned? pay for it. oh you want to remove the watermark blocking important information on your paperwork? pay for it. the ads are even worse. why are there adds anytime i do anything? and why are they for different scanners that seem bet
- [R26] Decent app, but there are problems: Decent scanner app for short PDFs. However, the free version has a page limit of 10 pages (it really is 9). Additionally, the pages slightly differ in size and there is a logo in the lower right hand corner of every page that can interfere with the information being scanned.
- [R39] Poor business model: I downloaded the app to scan two separate files. It wouldn’t allow me to save anything without a subscription. There is also a 10 page limit. I didn’t think scanning a few document with a camera I already owned required payment to someone but here we are. Best of luck to you if you’d like to try it out yourself.
- [R194] Have to buy to save scans!: No thanks!
- [R35] Absolutely Irritating: I have used this app in the past and had a really great experience. However, recently it has become overrun with ads. Every time I exit or enter any page, a 20 second video advertisement shows up that can’t be skipped. I am just left to bear it while practically ripping my hair out. Along with this, the crop feature does not work, and the buttons often get stuck. After a hal
- [R37] Riddled with Ads: You know, maybe I could actually use this app if it didn’t spam you with an Ad literally everytime you press anything. Garbage app stay away.
- [R41] Was fine. Now awful: The app was fine. Now anytime you press anything there’s an ad. It’s making the app unusable. The few ads before was fine, now it’s non stop.
- [R8] Hidden charges: I paid for 9.99 a month but somehow I ended up paying around 50 dollars a month and I don’t even use this app! They were taking money from me for soo long and I didn’t know it
- [R9] Scammed me: Over charged me not 1 time but 2 times!
- [R30] Scammer: They continue to charge you after you cancel your subcription. I notice it 3 months after I ended the subscription. It shows on your statement as PADDLENET LUNI. Bewear, scamming company. I have to call my cc to dispute the charges! How is this app allowed on APPLE store?
- [R45] Ben: This app is a scam. Do not download or open it. They stole my credit card information and charged my card without approval.
- [R43] Unusable due to paywall: Immediately when opening the app there is an ad to try the Pro version which there is no way to close. Can't use the app unless you pay
- [R48] Unusable: The app doesn’t let you use it at all unless you agree to sign up for a “free” trial which it starts charging you for immediately
- [R56] Not so free trial: App offered 3 day trial I selected. Finally got past google apps, realized it wasn’t for me. I was charged full amount in day one.
- [R65] scanning experience: worst scanner app i’ve ever downloaded made me go through 4 different “free trials” and there was literally no button to deny the free trial unbelievably annoying then did all that to get hit with a 30 second no skip ad after scanning my first page which did not even scan correctly the competition is much better for sure
- [R42] Not good: Used to be okay? I paid for a subscription and they don't keep it current. I have reached out twice for help and no response. Too many adds and don't pay because it only works for a week then puts you back like you didn't pay
- [R467] Quite good app: Paid for the app but still getting annoying adverts, which when scanning lots of paperwork it’s very annoying to have to wait for the adverts to finish and let you carry on.
- [R13] Free version unusable: Poor image quality worse than just taking a picture with phone camera. Non-premium version is not worth using
- [R73] Unusable with the amount of pop up ads: The amount of pop up ads in this app make it almost unusable. Every time you click a button the app gives you several screens of pop ups that you need to get through before the button works. The app also adds a watermark that obscured the bottom corner of each page. Luckily it’s small, but could be an issue if you have important info in that corner. I used t
- [R3] Clear and easy scan: This little handy dandy scanner on my phone sure makes my life a lot easier it scans really simply and attach all documents together as a group making it easier to forward to myself and save on my computer when I don’t have my Scanner handy to be honest it’s even better than my Scanner because I don’t have to get up and go and literally do it at my desk
- [R4] Scanner - Scan PDF: This App is very user friendly.
- [R5] COO: Simple straightforward
- [R7] The scanner actually works: Typically, I hate downloading anything that has to do with iPhones because it’s always an extra surcharge, but I will say that I was able to use the app do my conversion with no problem and it doesn’t look like a picture. It looks scanned and professional so I actually decided to leave a comment cause it actually work.
- [R17] More like Scammer app: I had been using this scanner app happily for a couple of years now. I’m a college student and I need to be able to scan handwritten work to submit as a pdf. Three months ago, I would have rated this app 5/5 stars, but the last few updates have made the free version of this app nearly unusable. The app no longer allows me to take a wider picture and crop out what I want. Th
- [R69] It was great for awhile: I use this often for work and it has been great for years. Within this year the pop up ads between every step have really slowed down my work efficiency. Deleting and looking for a new app.
- [R81] Actually good scanner: Went through probably 5-6 different ones and this one feels very comfortable. Been using it for years, today i thought i should leave a review. A lot of ads, but it’s free and it’s good and they have to make money. So i’ll take that! Keep it up
- [R11] Good scanner app but not free: No free version
- [R24] Porn advertisement display!!: Temu advertisers is using pornography as a way to get people to click on pictures. It is inappropriate and should be removed right away if children could be using this.
