Storm Tracker° vs Weather Radar
Weather Radar is the slightly better option due to its more reliable core radar functionality and a greater number of users finding it accurate, despite both apps facing significant criticism regarding pricing, ads, and recent performance issues.
Both Storm Tracker° and Weather Radar are free apps with in-app purchases, but both have significant user complaints about aggressive monetization, ads, and recent functionality issues. Weather Radar has a slight edge in radar accuracy and reliability, though its pricing structure is also a major point of contention.
Head to head
you are looking for an app primarily for storm chasing and appreciate good graphics and intensity scales, and are willing to navigate aggressive ads or pay for a premium version, despite the risks of pricing confusion and functionality issues R5.
you prioritize generally accurate radar and timely weather notifications, and are prepared to deal with a busy interface and frequent prompts to subscribe, or if you are willing to pay for a premium version with the understanding that some features may still be paywalled .
Evidence note: Both apps have a high volume of recent negative reviews, particularly concerning pricing, ads, and app functionality issues after updates. The lifetime ratings are significantly higher than what recent reviews suggest, indicating a decline in user satisfaction. The free vs. paid asymmetry is very strong for both, as much of the negativity stems from the aggressive monetization of features that users expect to be free or included in a paid subscription. Many 'free' users feel the app is unusable due to ads, while paid users often feel ripped off by the cost or lack of promised features.

- [R3] Storm Tracker° Decent app horrible design: When I first got in the app it showed a black screen 📺 and it wants you to pay for hurricane tracking and wind 🌬️ tracking so it just charges me 29$ a year so I hope you read this thank you!!
- [R4] Storm Tracker° Lame: This app costs a fair bit and is worse than free apps that do similar things. I regret wasting my money and assume I misheard the person who recommended it. Even with paying, the radar function does not forecast (eg it stops about 5 ago) and the forecast screen show the same data any free app shows. I really wish I paid weekly so I could have tried it first. You can change temperature f
- [R5] Storm Tracker° Thx: Awesome helps when nado hits
- [R9] Storm Tracker° Can’t find the forecast: I can’t figure it how to get the forecast?? Help! App support asks if I want a job
- [R6] Storm Tracker° Laggy and Late: I have refreshed this app MULTIPLE times, and it still shows warnings from (as of now) 6 months and 24 days ago. I tried everything to try to get the map to refresh and be up-to-date when it comes to information and warnings, but to no avail. It is accurate, however, when it comes to tropical cyclones forecasts and radar images. This app is decent, but it has its flaws as well.
- [R7] Storm Tracker° Ads everywhere: Very aggressive ads that make the free version even ridiculous to use. Go with Weather Channels app instead.
- [R12] Storm Tracker° New phone: I purchased a iPhone 17 and storm tracker seems to have forgotten that I paid for a year.
- [R13] Storm Tracker° Wrong temperature: Do you ever go to your app and monitor the weather? No way it is 27 degrees in Texas but at the top it says 79 degrees.
- [R1] Storm Tracker° False advertising: It was stating $4.99 a year but when you click on it then it changes to $4.99 a week
- [R2] Storm Tracker° Great app for chasing: Very good app i love it besides the 10$ a week
- [R19] Storm Tracker° App does not work at this time. Do not purchase this app.: Do not buy this app, it is not working at all. It is currently not populating any current weather data or forecast data. Sent an email 30+ days ago and received no response from Impala Studios the developer. I have to assume at this time the developer is no longer supporting this weather app. It’s too bad it was once my favorite app.
- [R34] Storm Tracker° This app sucks!: I wish I could give it zero! I can’t change my location, I can’t get forecasts. I paid for a subscription- I can’t get a hold of the idiots who created the site, when you push send to contact them, poof, it disappears, just like my trust for this useless product. If l see a charge, I will stop payment!
- [R46] Storm Tracker° No Support: My app started leaving red and purple pins in random places around the world. There is no way to remove them and ZERO customer support. When I pay money for a product I expect at least one person to work at the company that is taking my money.
- [R52] Storm Tracker° If I could give less than 1 rating, I seriously would.: I tried the App and realize that it was not for me so I cancelled the App but now I am seeing that you are still charging me $9.99 a month for one year. This is a total scam, why should I have to pay $120 for 1 year of service that I do not want and does absolutely nothing for me. You send out alert notifications for my location but when you
- [R10] Storm Tracker° $$$$$$: The free version has ads that block everything. The paid version is too expensive for the typical person.
- [R18] Storm Tracker° Old was better.: They updated the free app and remove some functionality and it runs slower. If you were wanting to check a storm quickly you can’t anymore you have to go through a number of ads first. For this reason alone I would not recommend it.
- [R21] Storm Tracker° Theres an Ad every time you open this app: Every time you check the temperature there like a 10 second Ad you HAVE to watch and can’t click out of. Otherwise it’s a good app.
- [R50] Storm Tracker° Always 30 minutes behind: I have been using this for quite a few months, and I use the Pro version that I paid for. Compared to reality outside my window, and compared to the National Weather Service radar which I also monitor, this app is consistently 30 minutes behind the true weather location. We are constantly hit by thunderstorms, and 30 minutes later they show up over our house on this app.
