Elevate vs Impulse
Choose Elevate for a more engaging learning experience, but be prepared for paywalls.
Elevate generally offers a more enjoyable and diverse brain training experience compared to Impulse, though both apps face criticism for their subscription models. Users appreciate Elevate's variety of exercises but often feel frustrated by the limitations of the free version. Impulse, while also fun, suffers from ad overload and a lack of new content.
Head to head
you want a wider variety of brain training exercises and don't mind navigating through ads and paywalls.
you prefer a straightforward approach to cognitive testing and are okay with limited content updates.
Evidence note: Both apps have a free tier, which leads to more complaints from free users regarding limitations and ads. Elevate's reviews are more varied in praise and criticism, while Impulse's reviews tend to focus heavily on ads and subscription frustrations.

- [R8] Elevate Great for my mind: This app helps me think faster. It challenges me. I love it.
- [R17] Elevate Excellent: I’ve had this for a while now. There are so many things to do to help with grammar, reading, comprehension. This one is worth it. Helps keep mind active and focused. Still playing, learning a lot. This just gets better. One can learn a lot
- [R26] Elevate Love it!: This app is so fun! It has easy and challenging puzzles. I especially love the fun word games like Recall. This app is an incredible way to learn and have a good time. I would recommend it for probably ages 10 and up. I think younger children would not understand the concepts. I am in 7th grade and I think it is just the right difficulty. All in all, this game is a great way to train you
- [R66] Impulse Not enough updates: After a year, have already completed all the puzzles and some of the games, and there haven’t been any new ones added. I’m also not convinced of the value of some of the exercises. I probably won’t renew my subscription.
- [R20] Elevate Excellent, Except the ads: These puzzle games are excellent because they include multiple types of puzzles (math, writing, speaking, etc.) However, after a while, the ads prevent you from completing the puzzles. They run for minutes before the next puzzle can be accessed. Sadly, this is so frustrating and tone consuming that It’s forcing me to find a new puzzle app.
- [R27] Elevate Amazing app, but a few issues: I really enjoy Elevate and it’s helped me with my focus and writing style however, one thing that bothers me is the payments and ads. You can only do a few exercises a day (which might actually be a good thing to prevent too much time spent on the app) but having to pay do more is a bit annoying. Otherwise, this app is incredible for learning cognitive and educationa
- [R39] Elevate Not impressed by addition of adverts: Sorry to say how disappointed I am that you’ve now added adverts half way through a game making it a pain to have to get back to. As a consequence I’m really sorry to say that I am now deleting what was one of my favourite apps that I’ve been playing for many years
- [R67] Impulse Too many adds: Poor
- [R10] Elevate Issues with log in: Activities stimulating but constant error message trying to log in. Frustrating as need to uninstall and reinstall app. Plus purchased paid version which will be a loss if this continues
- [R12] Elevate Buggy!: It has become very buggy on an iPad.
- [R34] Elevate Total trzsh: This app absolutely sucks. it won't let you play any games on my Samsung fold once it did an update. The version on my IPad keeps restarting so often, it is becoming a huge issue just to do a single workout. I have emailed them several times and they never actually help me. They blame everything else but their app. I have been playing on the app everyday for over 11 years and this i
- [R69] Impulse I loved it, now I’m frustrated!: It truly was great fun and good for the mind. One of my very favorite apps. Lately, the software is totally lacking! It’s not working at all. I give the right solutions, but the software freezes and does not allow me to proceed, rendering the app useless. I’m sad. Please fix!!
- [R1] Elevate Not free like the ads claim: Yeah, it's free to download but you can't do anything unless you pay. You can play about five minutes worth of games and everything else is behind a pay wall. I only downloaded this app because the ad said that it was completely free. False advertising! Too bad because it did seem like it could have potential.
- [R22] Elevate all paid content: everything shown in ads is paid content, free version of the app is just bombardment with pop ups asking you to pay them on a subscription basis in order to access 95% of the app
- [R30] Elevate App is Good, Subscription not so much: Elevate could be an amazing app, and after having the free trial for a while it has improved my language skills. My only gripe is that Every. Single. Feature is blocked behind a pay wall. I understand having a premium for some features but all of them?? I’d much rather just pay up front for the app instead of having to pay a subscription I didn’t know about w
- [R72] Impulse Payment: Everything is premium with subscriptions now and it makes me sad lol because I'm so broke
- [R15] Elevate Cannot contact: I received a free trial and started to play a couple games. The games that I played were pretty fun. I just didn’t like it enough to pay the full price. So I decided after a day to delete the app. Usually I can delete an app and then go to my apple settings and opt out of the free trial. But I couldn’t find it in my settings for some reason. Then after a couple weeks, my card was c
- [R49] Elevate I paid for the unlimited for life package and now I can’t restore purchases.: I had this app when it first came out, immediately bought the unlimited subscription, now since the update I can’t restore it. It’s ashamed I really liked the app and the features they compiled all of the things I wanted to work on in one app. But now I’m not paying twice.
- [R55] Elevate Bad: They charge still after your subscription is cancelled
- [R82] Impulse SCAM: This company is a scam. Do not download this app unless you want to be charged $30/month indefinitely. Even after cancelling my subscription which was not easy to do I have been charged $30/month continuously. I even canceled the credit card and they somehow got my new cc information and continued charging me. Don’t do it. Trust me
