Tiny Scanner vs Scanner App. JPG
Tiny Scanner is the better choice for a document scanning app, offering a more reliable experience and better value, despite recent shifts to a subscription model and some user frustration.
Tiny Scanner (App A) generally provides a more reliable and user-friendly scanning experience, with many long-term users praising its efficiency and clarity. Scanner App. JPG (App B) is plagued by aggressive and confusing subscription practices, with many users feeling scammed by its high weekly fees and inability to export documents without payment.
Head to head
You need a generally reliable and easy-to-use scanner app for regular document scanning and sharing, and are willing to pay for a subscription, understanding that some features are now behind a paywall R8R14.
You absolutely need a very basic, quick scan for a one-off task and are extremely diligent about canceling free trials immediately and understanding potentially high weekly costs .
Evidence note: The evidence for Scanner App. JPG (App B) is heavily skewed towards negative experiences regarding its pricing and subscription model, with very few detailed positive reviews about its core functionality beyond 'easy to use'. Tiny Scanner (App A) has a broader range of feedback, including many positive long-term user experiences, but also significant recent complaints about its shift to a subscription model.

- [R3] Tiny Scanner Mike R.: Love how it focuses on my image and then puts it into a file for me but when I converted from PDF to Word, it’s very garbled
- [R5] Tiny Scanner Best work app!: I use this app for storing all my important files on the go. Very useful for my Real Estate business!
- [R11] Tiny Scanner Great scans with a simple touch.: Easy, always great clarity & contrast in documents. Go to solution for scanning.
- [R15] Tiny Scanner When it works it works: Probably 20% of the time the blue box is bouncing around a simple white piece of paper document it eventually snaps a photo of about 1/8th of the page.
- [R2] Tiny Scanner Very convenient app: Good performance
- [R8] Tiny Scanner Tiny Scanner: I LOVE this app. I’ve been using it for years and it is so easy to send documents with it.
- [R14] Tiny Scanner Excellent product!: The efficiency and ease of use, are impressive
- [R17] Tiny Scanner Very useful: I love this tiny scanner because it’s easy to use and helps me do my job better. It comes in handy to use my phone and not have to find a scanner to use.
- [R10] Tiny Scanner Freezing constantly: What is happening to this app?
- [R20] Tiny Scanner Deleted all my files.: Your company deleted all my files. The app was updated and everything is gone. I will not renew my subscription when it expires.
- [R1] Tiny Scanner Scam: They keep changing the name and charging for the app again.
- [R12] Tiny Scanner No good for occasional use: For occasional scans this gets expensive as monthly subscription and no free version - like restricted to just 5 scans per week. There is a free trial but too much hassle as have to sign up then cancel. Will continue to use document scan option in iOS Files app.
- [R18] Tiny Scanner Terrible app: Initially bought it few years ago and now with the subscription model it sucks…don’t buy waste of money and time
- [R24] Tiny Scanner Great but…: I’ve used the app for years, and it has been great! However, you now have to pay to email yourself the PDFs. I use it to submit receipts for work, and my work isn’t paying for the app, so, unfortunately, I will be finding another app to use going forward. To the devs, it is not free, if you have to pay.
- [R4] Tiny Scanner Error: Hello! I accidentally signed up for a free trial of the Tiny Scanner app. I intended to cancel it, but now I have an unpaid balance of $49.99 and my Apple ID is completely locked. I also have $10 of my own money stuck on this balance. Could you please waive/cancel this unpaid balance and unlock my Apple ID? Thank you!
- [R22] Tiny Scanner Can not restore subscription and files not transferring to new phone: App and subscription not transferring to new iPhone
- [R36] Tiny Scanner Elnur S: This guys are scammers! I am a client of the Tiny Scanner for more than 7 years now, and my current subscription is paid until 15 of November 2025. Despite of the valid subscription application doesn’t allow me to scan more than one page and requires to pay more for “upgraded” version of the App. Then the question is what for I have paid £24,99???
- [R73] Scanner App. JPG Do not download this app!: I am extremely frustrated with my experience. I downloaded the Scanner app and canceled the free trial the same day. I did not continue using the app beyond that initial day, yet I was still charged for three consecutive weeks - $10.79 each time - totaling $32.37. I have since disputed this with Apple and they refuse to provide a refund.
- [R28] Tiny Scanner Shame: Big big shame many features that were once free now sit behind a paywall. I remember paying for this originally, now they’ve taken those features you paid for away. Signs of classic U.S business practices. Avoid.
- [R30] Tiny Scanner “1 free share left”: Lmaooo, scam. Used to be a normal app
- [R64] Scanner App. JPG Subscription required: if you are looking for a free scanner, don't waste your time with this. It is also priced extremely high for what it does.
- [R66] Scanner App. JPG $9.99 Weekly Subscription: App works great but charges $9.99 per week if you want to export the documents you send.
- [R69] Scanner App. JPG Expensive. Works.: Good little tool, but it’s really really really expensive for $15 a week. That’s just not worth it to have something that turns a picture into a PDF. Use the free trial for three days then cancel subscription. I used it for exactly 10 minutes and I’m canceling it and removing it from my phone however it’s a fantastic tool and it works really well. It was $15 a year. I might cons
- [R70] Scanner App. JPG Scam: Charges $9.99 a WEEK if you forget to cancel after the free trial. It is most definitely not worth even a one time $9.99 charge.
- [R82] Scanner App. JPG TOOK 60 BUCKS OUT OF MY ACCOUNT IN 4 WEEKS: I never signed up for a weekly subscription for 15 bucks, please check your subscriptions
- [R86] Scanner App. JPG Shady app: Beware, you need to provide payment info to start a trial which cannot be canceled from the app. You need to cancel from your iPhones subscription settings
