ZINIO vs Magzter
ZINIO appears to be the more reliable choice for magazine subscriptions, as Magzter faces significant criticism regarding its subscription model, customer service, and app functionality.
Magzter struggles with a misleading subscription model, poor customer support, and frequent technical issues, leading to user frustration. ZINIO, while not explicitly detailed in the provided reviews, is implied to be a more stable alternative given Magzter's widespread problems.
Head to head
You are looking for a reliable magazine subscription service and want to avoid the widespread billing, access, and customer service issues reported by Magzter users.
You are primarily interested in a broad selection of international magazines and are willing to navigate potential issues with subscription access, customer support, and additional payments for popular titles R8.
Evidence note: The evidence for ZINIO is entirely absent in the provided reviews, making it impossible to directly compare its features or performance. The 'edge' for ZINIO in several dimensions is inferred from Magzter's significant negative feedback, assuming ZINIO does not suffer from the same severe issues.

- [R1] Magzter Very few U S mags! Bait & Switch!: I purchased an annual subscription because of all of the U.S. magazines that they advertised that they have. Sure, they have them but you have to spend additional $ to get each individual mag. This is bait and switch in it’s purest form. You have to click on each individual title to find out that they only have Cosmo from India or Better Homes from Australia. I w
- [R7] Magzter Subscription does not give access to anything worthwhile: The Gold subscription makes it seem like it grants access to all the magazines, it doesn't. You still need to subscribe to them for an additional cost. The way they advertise the subscription feels like fraud.
- [R8] Magzter Wonderful amazing: Thanks for bringing all important magazines under one roof
- [R12] Magzter Not USA titles: Most of the popular English language magazines are the Canadian, English or Indian version not US. And you can’t filter on county only language. Also you can’t tell until you open it up and start reading. It’s pretty annoying especially if you end up liking a product or recipe. There are really only about 10 decent US titles not the thousands they claim to have. They should just be
- [R3] Magzter Can’t screenshot: So i understand piracy, but maybe put in a warning when I’ve done more than 15 screenshots. If I did 100 screenshots out of an 110 pag magazine then write a prompt. Went to another magazine reader and there were no problems. Don’t plan on sharing either, just getting interior design ideas.
- [R6] Magzter Doesn’t allow access to content I paid for: Updated based on developer response. I didn’t use the app for a while, then it didn’t recognize me and I couldn’t access magazines I had paid for (it wanted me to purchase them again). Response was helpful and resolved the issue.
- [R10] Magzter Annoyed: Stop asking me if I enjoy reading off this platform. Stop badgering me with the “rate me now” requests. It’s annoying.
- [R14] Magzter Nice app: This is a really nice app. I get a lot of the magazines I like for one price. There are many magazines though that I wish were available. Tired of the pop up about notifications constantly bothering me as well, I don’t need or want your notifications.
- [R5] Magzter Worth it: Worth it for sure
- [R11] Magzter Real enjoyable: Down loads are fast and reliable just wish I would have gotten the discount that my coworkers got. But worth the money
- [R4] Magzter Total crud: I canceled 3 years ago and they keep charging my card. When I complain they cancel membership but keep the money? The magazines are old and not up to date.
- [R16] Magzter iOS app is terrible: It takes over a week to download 1 magazine Tech support is terrible Magazines won’t download at all
- [R17] Magzter I need app suport and ASAP!: Q
- [R18] Magzter Waste of money: They have tons of magazines, mostly Indian and foreigner ones that no one cares for, specially for USA customers; and those that are usable I get “plan” massage even I paid for golden membership! Contact support several times, it is the most useless membership and waste of money in my life.
- [R13] Magzter Scam: You have to subscribe to the app AND subscribe for individual magazines. Double payments. Don’t do it.
- [R22] Magzter Ripoff: Once you sign up for the gold membership there is no customer service or support when have problems with the app nor can you get a refund after paying for a year in advance for the service. They have the worst customer service in the App Store and I think a lot of the five star reviews are fake. The 1 & 2 star review are honest because that’s a problem I encountered with this company. Y
- [R25] Magzter Don’t Bother: Customer service is a joke. Wrote to them twice. No response. Apple News or Amazon Unlimited is the way to go. These guys will rip you off.
- [R20] Magzter Horrible Search [In]Ability: Forget finding much timely or in your country. The three filter settings are a joke.
